In an outpatient rehabilitation setting, both patients’ use and therapists’ knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine
(CAM) varies widely. Based on this observation and a recognition of CAM as an emerging practice area for rehabilitation professionals,
it was felt that a thorough and consistent approach to the education and orientation of physical therapists to the world of
CAM and integrative care was needed. This special interest paper will describe one center’s approach, development, and use
of a unique and comprehensive training manual designed to provide both a structured and standardized approach for educating
physical therapists about CAM and related therapeutic modalities. This innovative teaching tool allows for multiple methods
of content delivery within a multidisciplinary format and can be used for those who practice currently or desire to practice
in an integrative care environment. 相似文献

The fact that racism and other forms of discrimination and injustice have persisted in our own nursing communities despite our rhetoric of caring and compassion can no longer be denied. This fact gave rise to a webinar in which the scholars represented in this issue of Nursing Philosophy appear. The webinar centered on the philosophy, phenomenology and scholarship of Indigenous nurses and nurses of color. The authors of the articles in this issue are giving us the precious gift of their ideas. All of us, white scholars and scholars of color, must come together to receive this gift, learn from their words and their insight, debate the ideas, honor the perspectives, and consider ways that we can move this discourse forward to create new possibilities for nursing, new possibilities to shape the future development of our discipline. 相似文献

The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the health-promoting lifestyle behaviors of acute-care nurses using the Health Promotion Model. Statistical analysis of 149 returned Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II surveys indicates areas of weakness in stress management and physical activity. No significant difference is found between unit, demographic factors, and subscale scores at the p < .01 level, but medical–surgical nurses consistently scored better than the critical-care nurses in health promotion. Findings support the need for the development of holistic nursing interventions to promote self-care in the identified areas. Strategies include educational/experiential classes in holistic nursing; individualized unit-based activities fostering stress management, such as massage, reflexology, and imagery; and development of an employee wellness program. 相似文献

This paper presents the author's model of humility structures that can be operationalized as behaviours and incorporated into healthcare practice, the Humility in Health Care Model. The Humility in Health Care Model expands and combines the concepts of cultural humility, holistic nursing, servant leadership and the Chinese concept ‘QIAN’. The paper identifies ways to create a regular practice of humility behaviours on the personal/interpersonal, leadership, systems and policy levels. The paper discusses the benefits of operationalizing humility, forces that favour humility and barriers to practicing its behaviours. Suggestions for future research on humility in the healthcare professions are offered. 相似文献
