Infantile type of Niemann-Pick disease with developmental defects of the central nervous system

Clinical and morphologic manifestations of a rare disease developing, as a rule, in early life--an infantile variant of Niemann-Pick disease--are illustrated with a fatal case of a 6.5-month-old child. The diagnosis was established histochemically using, in particular, Smith-Dietrich method which provided differential diagnosis with cerebroside lipidosis (Gaucher's disease). In addition to typical enlargement of the liver, spleen and lymph nodes, cerebral and adrenal affection there appeared true porencephalia.     

Simultaneous recording of the transpulmonary pressure and electromyogram of the diaphragm

To record the hysteresis loop and electromyogram of the diaphragm simultaneously it is recommended that a standard probe of the sort used to record the intraesophageal pressure, on which silver electrodes are mounted, be used. Coronary venous blood flow in patients with acute myocardial infarction

In 94 patients with large myocardial infarction, their coronary venous blood flow was studied in the acute period of the disease by continuous coronary sinus thermodilution. No relationship was established between the coronary venous blood flow and the duration of coronary heart disease. The patients with anterior myocardial infarction had a significantly less blood flow in the vena cordis magna than those with posterolateral infarction. No correlation was found between the blood flow and precordial mapping parameters. Thus, continuous coronary sinus thermodilution cannot be used for indirect identification of the site of myocardial infarction and for prediction of its progression severity.

Synthesis and antibacterial activity of 3,4-dihyhdropyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ones

A series of 3,4-dihydropyrido[3′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-ones were synthesized by the reaction of ethyl 3-alkyl(aryl)carboxamidothieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylates with aliphatic amines. The starting carboxamides were obtained via the reaction of ethyl 3-aminothieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate with acid chlorides.
