Objectives:To assess the knowledge and attitudes of physicians of different specialties, including psychiatrists, regarding forensic psychiatry to determine whether further modification or training is needed in the psychiatry residency program. Methods:This cross-sectional study was carried out using a 3-page, 3-section questionnaire containing 21 questions disseminated randomly online via Google forms using social media platforms. The 482 participants were residents, specialists, and consultants of various specialties. The study was conducted between September 2020 and August 2021 in various tertiary hospitals across Saudi Arabia. Results:A total of 482 physicians were recruited. The most common age group was 25-35 years, comprising mostly Saudis (62.4%). Based on the results, “poor” and “good” knowledge of forensic psychiatry was identified in 89% and 11% of the physicians, while “negative” and “positive” attitudes were identified in 16.4% and 83.6% of the physicians. Conclusion:Although the perspective of physicians regarding forensic psychiatry was found to be positive, their knowledge of the topic seems to be lacking. 相似文献

Objectives:
To compare the mean total antioxidant status (TAS) among 3 glaucoma types, namely: pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEG), primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), and primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), and study its potential association with various clinical glaucoma-parameters.Methods:
In this case-control study, plasma samples were obtained between September 2013 and October 2014 from 340 glaucoma patients (PEG [n=54]; POAG [n=147]; PACG [n=139]), and 351 controls of matching age, gender, ethnicity, and 5 different systemic co-morbidities from King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The TAS in all samples was determined by a colorimetric-based assay. Results:
The mean±standard deviation of TAS was significantly lower among cases: 0.77±0.32 than controls: 1.1±0.22, p<0.0001. Moreover, the TAS levels were significantly different across the 3 types of glaucoma: 0.86±0.24 in PEG, 0.47±0.32 in POAG, and 0.98±0.41 in PACG (all p<0.0001). In addition, there was a significant correlation between TAS and age at onset (Pearson correlation coefficient [R] 0.17, p<0.0001), cup/disc ratio (R: -0.13, p=0.004), and number of anti-glaucoma medications (R: -0.16, p=0.001).Conclusion:
Our findings provide evidence that plasma TAS levels are decreased in patients with glaucoma, more so in POAG and PEG than PACG, supporting the hypothesis that decreased antioxidative defense and/or increased oxidative stress may have a critical role in the pathogenesis of glaucoma.Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy associated with optic nerve damage, and is one of the most leading cause of blindness worldwide.1 Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) as a result of reduction in normal aqueous outflow is a major causal risk factor that is well supported by animal studies.2-4 Although IOP is considered a major risk factor for glaucoma,2,3 other concomitant factors affecting the pathophysiology of glaucomatous retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death include retinal ischemia,5 nutritional status,6 and oxidative stress.7 There is evidence of oxidative damage in ocular diseases, such as cataract and age-related macular degeneration.8 In addition, significant oxidative damage has been demonstrated in human trabecular meshwork (TM) cells of patients with glaucoma,7 causing elevated IOP and visual field damage.9 Furthermore, our previous studies have documented mitochondrial abnormalities10-12 (oxidative stress marker), and glutathione-S-transferase (antioxidant) gene (GST) polymorphisms to be associated with various types of glaucoma.13 It is clearly evident from the literature, and our own studies, that oxidative stress mechanisms play a critical role in the pathogenesis of glaucoma. Previous studies had demonstrated reduced total antioxidant capacity in aqueous humor and blood samples from patients with glaucoma.14-17 To evaluate the role of oxidative stress in different types of glaucoma we had previously investigated total antioxidants status (TAS) in the plasma of pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEG) patients,18 primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) patients,19 and in the plasma of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients.20 As an extension to these studies, here, we compare the mean TAS level among these 3 glaucoma types, and study the potential association between the TAS level and various clinical parameters important to each type of glaucoma.18-20 相似文献3.

Background
To investigate the association between polymorphism rs547984, located in close proximity to the Zona Pellucida Glycoprotein 4 (ZP4) gene on human chromosome 1q43 and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).Method
Polymorphism rs547984 was genotyped using Taq-Man® assay in 185 subjects comprising of 90 unrelated POAG cases and 95 controls of Saudi origin. Results
Association analysis between cases and controls revealed no significant genotype distribution under additive (p = 0.356), dominant (p = 0.517) and recessive (p = 0.309) models. Besides, the allele frequency distribution was also found to be non-significant (p = 0.70). The minor “A” allele frequency was found to be 0.49 and 0.50 among POAG cases and controls, respectively. In addition, specific clinical indices used to assess severity of glaucoma such as intraocular pressure (IOP), cup/disc ratio and number of anti-glaucoma medication also did not show any significant genotype distribution in POAG cases. Conclusion
Polymorphism rs547984 is neither associated with any clinical indices important for POAG such as IOP and cup/disc ratio nor is a risk factor for POAG in the Saudi cohort.4.

Background
To investigate whether polymorphism rs540782 on chromsome 1, in close proximity to the Zona Pellucida Glycoprotein 4 (ZP4) gene, is a risk factor for primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).Method
The study genotyped 92 unrelated POAG cases and 95 control subjects from Saudi Arabia using Taq-Man® assay. Results
The genotype frequency distribution did not deviate significantly from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p?>?0.05). Overall, both the genotype and allele frequencies were not significantly different between cases and controls. The minor ‘C’ allele frequency was 49.4%, which was comparable to the Japanese population and higher than the Indian and Afro-Caribbean populations. Similarly, no significant association was found between genotypes and systemic diseases and health awareness/behavior domain variables. Importantly, glaucoma specific indices, such as intraocular pressure, cup/disc ratio and number of anti-glaucoma medication, also showed no statistically significant effect of genotypes within POAG cases. Conclusion
Polymorphism rs540782 is not a risk factor for POAG in the Saudi cohort.5.

BackgroundThe aim of this review was to evaluate the most used suture materials with regards to their inflammatory response, their bacterial adhesion, and their physical properties when used to close oral wounds.MethodsFour databases (PubMed, Scopus, Dentistry & Oral Sciences, and OVID) were searched to retrieve relevant studies from January 1, 2000, to January 31, 2020.ResultsOut of the 269 articles, only 13 studies were selected as they were relevant and met the systematic review's protocol. These studies showed that almost all suture materials studies (catgut, polyglycolic acid [PGA] sutures, nylon, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, and silk sutures) caused bacterial adherence and tissue reaction. In nylon and chromic catgut, the number of bacteria accumulated was lowest. Silk and nylon were found to be more impacted than catgut and PGA in terms of physical characteristics such as tensile strength. PGA, on the other hand, was said to be the most susceptible to knot unwinding.ConclusionsFollowing an oral surgical operation, all sutures revealed varied degrees of irritation and microbial accumulation. Nonresorbable monofilament synthetic sutures, however, exhibited less tissue response and less microbial accumulation. 相似文献

We investigated Saudi patients with familial and sporadic Keratoconus for mutations in the Superoxide dismutase 1, soluble (SOD1) gene. We sequenced the entire coding region, exon-intron boundaries and intron 2 encompassing a 7-bp deletion in clinically confirmed Keratoconus patients (n?=?55) and 100 ethnically matched healthy controls. All cases and controls were unrelated. Sequencing the SOD1 gene revealed the presence of four nucleotide changes and all were non-coding. Those were g.12035 C?>?A; g.13978 T?>?A; g.12037 G?>?A and g.11931 A?>?C with similar frequencies in patients and controls. All four sequence changes were benign polymorphisms with no apparent clinical significance. Additionally, the 7-bp deletion in intro2 reported previously, were not detected in any of our Keratocnus cohort. In our Keratoconus cohort, no pathogenic SOD1 mutation(s) was identified. 相似文献
