The objective of this work was to establish a new procedure for 228Ra determination of natural waters via preconcentration of radium on MnO2 and separation of its daughter, 228Ac, using Diphonix ion exchange resin. Following removal of potential interferences via passage through an initial Diphonix Resin column, the first daughter of 228Ra, 228Ac, is isolated by chromatographic separation via a second Diphonix column. A holding time of >30 h for 228Ac ingrowth in between the two column separations ensures secular equilibrium. Barium-133 is used as a yield tracer. Actinium-228 is eluted from the second Diphonix Resin with 5 ml 1 M 1-Hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDPA) and quantified by addition of scintillation cocktail and LSC counting. Radium (and 133Ba) from the load and rinse solutions from the 2nd Diphonix column may be prepared for alpha spectrometry (for determination of 223Ra, 224Ra, and 226Ra) by BaSO4 microprecipitation and filtration. Decontamination tests indicate that U, Th, and Ra series nuclides do not interfere with these measurements, although high contents of 90Sr (90Y) require additional treatment for accurate measurement of 228Ra. Addition of stable Sr as a “hold back” carrier during the initial MnO2 preconcentration step was shown to remove most 90Sr interference.  相似文献

Fifty four patients presenting by huge splenomegaly were admitted to Tropical Medicine Department, El-Minia University Hospital. Tissue biopsy revealed pure bilharziasis due to S. hematobium in 10 (19%) cases, liver cirrhosis in 23 (42%), mixed schistosomiasis and cirrhosis in 8 (15%), hepatoma in 3 (6%), lymphoma in 6 (11%) and hematological diseases in the form of chronic myeloid leukemia in 2 (3.5%) and thalassemia major in 2 (3.5%) cases. The sensitivity and specificity of abdominal ultrasonography was 100% and 97% in cases of schistosomiasis, 100% and 100% in cases of hepatoma, 87% and 100% in cases of liver cirrhosis, 33% and 100% in cases of lymphoma respectively. There was a positive significant correlation between endoscopic variceal grading, portal vein diameter, splenic vein diameter, size of the spleen and the grading of the portal tract thickenings. The pathological and ultrasonographic diagnosis was the same in 38 (70%) cases. Splenogram was characteristic but not diagnostic in cases of schistosomiasis and liver cirrhosis. It was diagnostic and similar to peripheral blood picture in the 2 cases of chronic myeloid leukemia and was normal in cases of thalassemia major. Splenic aspiration was able to diagnose all cases of lymphomas. It can be considered as a useful adjunct to the usual diagnostic procedures, both in staging and follow up, especially in cases presenting only by splenomegaly.  相似文献

In a group of 35 patients with relapsed and/or chemo-resistant non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), low-dose total body irradiation (LTBI) (+involved-field radiotherapy to bulky sites) achieved a complete remission rate of 29%, 2-years progression-free survival of 32% and a median progression-free survival of 12 months. The 2-year survival was 42% and the median survival was 17 months. Immuno-staining and flow cytometry of peripheral blood in 14 patients showed that LTBI leads to a significant increase in the percentage of CD4+ cells with a consequent significant increase in the CD4+/CD8+ ratio. High lymphocytic percent and a high percentage of CD4+ cells before LTBI were significantly correlated with longer response duration and overall survival. These data may suggest that the palliative potential of LTBI should be investigated as an alternative to chemotherapy in NHL patients. The pre-treatment percentage of lymphocytes and CD4+ cells may be used as predictors for response to LTBI.  相似文献

Statement of problemThe accuracy of partially guided implant placement protocols in comparison with fully guided protocols is still unclear. C-shaped guide holes have become popular; however, their effect on drilling and implant position accuracy has not been thoroughly investigated.PurposeThe purpose of this split-mouth clinical study was to evaluate the accuracy of implant placement by using fully guided versus partially guided surgical guides with cylindrical versus C-shaped guiding holes.Material and methodsAdopting 80% power of the study in calculating sample size, a total of 48 implants were placed in the mandibular interforaminal area of 12 edentulous participants, who were randomly divided into 2 groups: a fully guided group, comprising 24 implants placed on 1 side by using a fully guided protocol and a partially guided group, comprising 24 implants placed on the other side in a partially guided protocol. Each group was further subdivided into 2 subgroups: cylindrical, including 12 implants placed through cylindrical guide holes, and C-shaped (12 implants) placed through C-shaped guiding holes. Postoperative cone beam computed tomography scans were made, and based on image fusion, the total deviations between the virtually preplanned and actual implant positions were determined and compared between both groups and subgroups. The linear horizontal deviation of the implant hexagon and apex, together with apical depth deviation and angular deviations between the position of the actually placed and virtually planned implants, were analyzed in 3 dimensions. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test of normality was used. Comparisons were carried out by using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Post hoc pair-wise comparisons when the Kruskal-Wallis test was significant were carried out by using the Dunn-Sidak test (α=.05).ResultsNo statistically significant differences were found in coronal linear deviation (P>.05), apical linear deviation (P>.05), apical depth deviation (P=.086), or angular deviation (P=.247), between the fully guided protocol and the partially guided protocol.ConclusionsThe accuracy of partially guided implant placement was clinically comparable with that of fully guided placement whether the guiding holes were cylindrical or C-shaped.  相似文献

Some important features of the intracellularly recorded electrical control activity of rabbit jejunal smooth muscle and its temperature dependence are reported in this study. This activity consisted of repetitive 18-mV depolarizations (control potentials (CP) or slow waves), which at 37degreesC lasted 2 s and had a frequency of 18/min and arose from a membrane potential of --55 mV. In some cells periods between CP's exhibited "diastolic" progressive depolarizations (intercontrol-potential depolarization), which may be the trigger of the CP in driving cells. While CP was usually monophasic, some cells persistently exhibited a notch early in the plateau phase. We suggest that CP consists of two components, an "initial depolarization" and a "secondary depolarization," which are usually fused together to give a monophasic potential. Cooling reduced CP frequency and prolonged its duration and caused more cells to show notching. While amplitude and rate of CP initial depolarization had low Q10's, duration and rates of onset and offset of the secondary depolarization had higher Q10's. Thus, the process responsible for secondary depolarization is more sensitive to temperature thant that underlying initial depolarization of the CP.  相似文献

Eighteen women with hepatic cirrhosis were examined for plasma levels of testosterone, estrone, estradiol, progesterone and sex hormone binding globulin. For eight who were amenorrheic, with advanced liver cirrhosis and ascites, the reduction of testosterone and rise in estrone and sex hormone binding globulin concentrations were significant. Plasma extradiol and progesterone were lower than normal levels, but the differences were not statistically significant. The other ten patients were menstruating (mostly irregularly), and their hormonal levels were assessed in different states of their cycles. All of them did not ovulate, had low levels of plasma progesterone and also showed consistent estrone concentration excess relative to estradiol and significant lowering of testosterone and elevation of sex hormone binding globulin. These findings are compared with previous reports on males with liver cirrhosis.  相似文献

Background

Phosphorus saturation transfer (ST) magnetic resonance spectroscopy can measure the rate of ATP generated from phosphocreatine (PCr) via creatine kinase (CK) in the human heart. Recently, the triple-repetition time ST (TRiST) method was introduced to measure the CK pseudo-first-order rate constant kf in three acquisitions. In TRiST, the longitudinal relaxation time of PCr while γ-ATP is saturated, T1`, is measured for each subject, but suffers from low SNR because the PCr signal is reduced due to exchange with saturated γ-ATP, and the short repetition time of one of the acquisitions. Here, a two-repetition time ST (TwiST) method is presented. In TwiST, the acquisition with γ-ATP saturation and short repetition time is dropped. Instead of measuring T1`, an intrinsic relaxation time T1 for PCr, T1intrinsic, is assumed. The objective was to validate TwiST measurements of CK kinetics in healthy subjects and patients with heart failure (HF).

Methods

Bloch equation simulations that included the effect of spillover irradiation on PCr were used to derive formulae for T1intrinsic and kf measured by both TRiST and TwiST methods. Spillover was quantified from an unsaturated PCr measurement used in the current protocol for determining PCr and ATP concentrations. Cardiac TRiST and TwiST data were acquired at 3 T from 12 healthy and 17 HF patients.

Results

Simulations showed that both kf measured by TwiST and T1intrinsic require spill-over corrections. In human heart at 3 T, the spill-over corrected T1intrinsic = 8.4 ± 1.4 s (mean ± SD) independent of study group. TwiST and TRiST kf measurements were the same, but TwiST was 9 min faster. Spill-over corrected TwiST kf was 0.33 ± 0.08 s−1 vs. 0.20 ± 0.06 s−1 in healthy vs HF hearts, respectively (p < 0.0001).

Conclusion

TwiST was validated against TRiST in the human heart at 3 T, generating the same results 9 min faster. TwiST detected significant reductions in CK kf in HF compared to healthy subjects, consistent with prior 1.5 T studies using different methodology.
