Health concerns as a result of harmful UV-rays drive the development of UV-sensors of different kinds. In this research, a UV-responsive smart textile is produced by inkjet printing and UV-LED curing of a specifically designed photochromic ink on PET fabric. This paper focuses on tuning and characterizing the colour performance of a photochromic dye embedded in a UV-curable ink resin. The influence of industrial fabrication parameters on the crosslinking density of the UV-resin and hence on the colour kinetics is investigated. A lower crosslinking density of the UV-resin increases the kinetic switching speed of the photochromic dye molecules upon isomerization. By introducing an extended kinetic model, which defines rate constants kcolouration, kdecay and kdecolouration, the colour performance of photochromic textiles can be predicted. Fabrication parameters present a flexible and fast alternative to polymer conjugation to control kinetics of photochromic dyes in a resin. In particular, industrial fabrication parameters during printing and curing of the photochromic ink are used to set the colour yield, colouration/decolouration rates and the durability, which are important characteristics towards the development of a UV-sensor for smart textile applications.

The study evaluates the effect of genistein, a soy isoflavone, on insulin sensitivity and renal functional and structural injury in rats rendered insulin-resistant by feeding on a high-fructose diet for 60 days. Fructose-fed animals (60 g /100 g) displayed insulin resistance as indicated by the measures of insulin sensitivity [insulin sensitivity index (ISI0,120), quantitative insulin check index (QUICKI), and homeostatic model assessment (HOMA)]. Alterations in body weight, kidney weight, urine volume, plasma, and urine electrolytes accompanied by significant increases in plasma and urinary levels of urea, uric acid, creatinine, total protein, and albumin were observed in fructose-fed rats. Oxidative stress in kidney was noted by an elevation in lipid peroxides and a decline in glutathione (GSH). Insulin sensitivity and renal function were improved in fructose-fed rats administered genistein. Histological changes such as fatty infiltration and thickening of glomeruli observed in fructose-fed rats were also ameliorated when genistein was co-administered. The study shows that genistein improves insulin sensitivity and kidney function in a dietary model of insulin resistance. We suggest that genistein may have benefits for patients suffering from kidney disease associated with insulin resistance.  相似文献

Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected routine healthcare services across all spectra, and tuberculosis (TB) care under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program have been affected the most. However, evidence available at the community level is minimal. The clinical features, care cascade pathway, and treatment outcomes of TB patients pre- and during/post-COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in a rural community health block in northern India were assessed and compared.Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study that included all patients diagnosed with TB and initiated treatment under programmatic settings between January 1 and June 30, 2020, in a rural TB unit in northern India. The periods from January 1 to March 23 and March 24 to June 30 were marked as pre-lockdown and during/post-lockdown, respectively.Results: A total of 103 patients were diagnosed and treated for TB during the study period. A significantly higher proportion of pulmonary TB cases were reported during/post-lockdown (43, 82.7%) compared to that pre-lockdown (32, 62.7%), and a higher diagnostic delay was noted during/post-lockdown (35, 81.4%). Through adjusted analysis, patients diagnosed during/post-lockdown period (adjusted risk ratio [aRR], 0.85; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.73–0.98) and previously treated (aRR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.60–0.995) had significantly lower favorable treatment outcomes.Conclusions: The symptom and disease (pulmonary/extrapulmonary) pattern have changed during/post-lockdown. The care cascade delays are still high among TB patients, irrespective of the lockdown status. Lockdown had a significant adverse impact on the outcomes of TB treatment.  相似文献

Salivary gland neoplasms represent the most complex and diverse group of tumors encountered by the head and neck oncologist. Their diagnosis and management is complicated by their relative infrequency. The significance of the study was to analyze the different types of salivary gland tumors, the modalities of treatment given, and their varied outcomes in relation with morbidity, prognosis, and survival rate. A total of 436 patients were treated for salivary gland neoplasm at Madras Medical College and Research Institute between 1991 and 2001, and the results were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were between 11 and 72 years of age (mean, 41.5 years), and 334 were male and 102 were female. They were from different socioeconomic groups. Fine-needle aspiration cytology was done for all patients that presented with salivary gland swelling. Univariate analysis was done, the confidence interval and odds ratio were calculated, and the significance was noted. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was estimated, and the results were analyzed. Pleomorphic adenoma was the most common benign tumor affecting the salivary glands. In our series, 155 patients had malignant parotid gland neoplasms, and 20 patients had cervical lymph node metastasis at the time of presentation. Facial nerve paralysis was noted in 21 cases. The recurrence after total parotidectomy for malignant salivary gland tumors was effectively managed with external beam irradiation in 19 patients. The survival, prognosis, and the mortality rate of the malignant parotid neoplasms and their relation to the sex of the patient, histopathological type of tumor, nodal status, and size of the tumor were analyzed.  相似文献

Patients with chronic renal failure frequently develop cardiac hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction; however, the mechanisms by which this occurs are still unclear. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to 5/6 nephrectomy and studied for their isolated myocyte function, calcium cycling, and gene expression of proteins important in calcium homeostasis after 4 wk. Comparable rats subjected to suprarenal aortic banding for the same duration were used for comparison. Rats subjected to 5/6 nephrectomy and aortic banding developed comparable hypertension; however, rats subjected to 5/6 nephrectomy experienced a greater degree of cardiac hypertrophy and downregulation of cardiac sodium potassium ATPase (Na+/K+ -ATPase) activity than rats subjected to aortic banding. Moreover, cells isolated from the 5/6 nephrectomy rat hearts displayed impaired contractile function and altered calcium cycling compared with cells isolated from control or aortic constriction rat hearts. The 5/6 nephrectomy rat heart cells displayed a prolonged time constant for calcium recovery following stimulation, which corresponded to decreases in homogenate sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase-2a (SERCA2a) activity, protein density, and mRNA for SERCA2a. In conclusion, chronic renal failure leads to alterations in cardiac gene expression, which produces alterations in cardiac calcium cycling and contractile function.
