BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The authors report radiological findings in 11 tumors in the pineal region, which were histologically diagnosed as germinomas, pineocytomas pineoblastomas, ependymomas, teratomas, and astrocytomas. METHODS: Computed tomography (CT) was performed in seven patients and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in all patients. RESULTS: CT showed a solid or solid/cystic mass with variable contrast enhancement. MRI showed a heterogeneous mass, with hypointense signal on T1 and iso/hyperintense signal on T2-weighted images (WI) and gadolinium enhancement. Extension to adjacent structures occurred in five patients and spread through the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) in two. CONCLUSIONS: Pineal region tumors have no pathognomonic imaging pattern. MRI and CT are complementary in diagnosis and are important to determine localization, extension, and meningeal spread.  相似文献

The sporadic emergence of Klebsiella pneumoniae strains resistant to cefepime and cefpirome was observed in Greek hospitals during 1996. Examination of six epidemiologically distinct strains and clones selected in vitro provided indications that resistance is due to the cooperation of decreased outer membrane permeability and hydrolysis of the cephalosporins by SHV-5 β-lactamase, which was produced in large amounts.  相似文献

Seventeen Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolates carrying the bla(VIM-1) metallo-beta-lactamase gene were collected in the intensive care units of three hospitals in Athens, Greece, in 2002. They exhibited various carbapenem resistance levels (Etest MICs of imipenem ranged from 4 to 32 microg/ml). All isolates gave positive results by the imipenem-EDTA synergy Etest. The isolates were classified into four main types by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis; the majority of the isolates (5 and 10 isolates) belonged to two types. The bla(VIM-1) gene cassette was part of the variable region of a class 1 integron that also included aac6, dhfrI, and aadA. This structure was carried by transferable plasmids.  相似文献

NinetyEnterobacter cloacae strains isolated from 12 Greek hospitals were examined in terms of epidemiological types and resistance mechanisms. Using O serotyping 69 % of the strains were assigned to a specific serotype and overall 16 different serotypes were identified. The combination of serotyping, phagetyping and biotyping efficiently discriminated most of the strains, indicating that single epidemic strains were not prevalent, although serotypes 3, 7, and group II predominated. Eight representative strains, all resistant to gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin and netilmicin, were further examined for transferability and mechanisms of resistance. Aminoglycoside resistance was found to be transferable in most strains, and 13 R plasmids of 40–120 MDa molecular weight were detected. The enzymes detected consisted of three enzymes active against gentamicin [ANT(2), AAC(3)-I and AAC(3)-V]; three active against tobramycin [ANT(2), AAC(3)-V and AAC(6)-I]; two active against netilmicin [AAC(3)-V and AAC(6)-I]; and one active against amikacin [AAC(6)-I]. APH(3) and ANT (3), which modify neomycin and streptomycin plus spectinomycin respectively, were also found. Overall up to five aminoglycoside modifying enzymes were detected on the same R plasmid, AAC(6)-I plus ANT(2) being the most prevalent. The high incidence of multiresistance inEnterobacter cloacae and the fact that resistance is due to enzymatic inactivation of the antibiotics, indicate that in Greece this species might act as a gene pool for the spread of resistance to other bacteria of clinical relevance.  相似文献

To express the core protein of HIV-1 of Chinese prevalent strain (HIV-1 (CN)) in Pichia pastoris, the fulllength gag gene was inserted into the secretory expression vector pHILS1. Linearized recombinant plasmid pHILGAG by Sail was electrotransformed into the yeast strain GS115, and the yeast transformants were identified by PCR. To induce the interest protein to be expressed, the PCR positive transformants were inoculated in the medium of BMGY and BMMY, mRNA of the strain was detected by RT-PCR, and the expressed protein was analyzed by SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and thin layer scanning. mRNA (1.3 kb) was amplified by RT-PCR. SDS-PAGE and Western blotting analysis showed that the molecular mass of the expressed protein was 55 kD, which was similar to the expected value, and the expressed protein could react with McAb to HIV-1 p24. Thin layer scanning analysis demonstrated that the whole amount of the expressed protein was approximately 13 % of the soluble protein in the supernatant. The recombinant yeast had good genetic stability. The optimal expression conditions of the engineering yeast were as follows: BMMY medium, 80-90% of dissolved oxygen, 1% methanol, and 3-day-cultivation course. Gag proteins were expressed under the optimal expression condition and purified via gel filtration chromatography. The purity of the interest protein was up to 85 %. After the purified proteins were inoculated into BALB/c mice, the anti-HIV-1 antibodies in the immunized mice could be detected by Western blotting.  相似文献

Bronchodilators represent the hallmark of symptomatic treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). There are four categories of bronchodilators: anticholinergics, methylxanthines, short-acting β2-agonists, and long-acting β2-agonists such as formoterol. Significant research has been performed to investigate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of formoterol in the therapeutic field of COPD. Formoterol exhibits a rapid onset of bronchodilation similar to that observed with salbutamol, yet its long bronchodilatory duration is comparable to salmeterol. In addition, formoterol presents with a clear superiority in lung function improvement compared with either ipratropium bromide or oral theophylline, while its efficacy improves when administered in combination with ipratropium. Formoterol has been shown to better reduce dynamic hyperinflation, which is responsible for exercise intolerance and dyspnea in COPD patients, compared with other bronchodilators, whereas it exerts synergistic effect with tiotropium. Moreover, formoterol reduces exacerbations, increases days free of use of rescue medication and improves patients’ quality of life and disease symptoms. Formoterol has a favorable safety profile and is better tolerated than theophylline. Collectively, data extracted from multicenter clinical trials support formoterol as a valid therapeutic option in the treatment of COPD.  相似文献
