The precise course and termination levels of the corticospinal tract (CST) in the cat were studied using the anterograde transport of wheat germ agglutinin-conjugated horseradish peroxidase (WGA-HRP). Following injection of WGA-HRP into the pericruciate (sensorimotor) cortex on one side, we observed the precise caudal termination levels of the CST fibers in the lateral and ventral funiculi. Simultaneously, the bilateral CSTs descending through the dorsal funiculus of the spinal cord were identified. Anterogradely labeled CST fibers within the lateral and ventral funiculi were observed bilaterally to reach the level of the third sacral (S3) spinal segment, which is lower than that ever described. The lowest level of the CST fibers within the dorsal funiculus, however, reached the level of the first sacral (S1) spinal segment. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that, in the cat, there exist 6 different CSTs (crossed and uncrossed lateral, ventral, dorsal) and that the termination levels of the lateral and ventral CSTs are much lower than those described in previous reports. 相似文献

We previously reported that the Guardian Bio-Threat Alert (BTA) system could detect (detection limit: about 0.1 μg/ml) staphylococcal
enterotoxin B (SEB), botulinum toxins (BTX) A and B, and ricin, with no interference by white-powdered materials or colored
matrices. In this study, the capability of the BTA system was further assessed. With 10 min of preheating at 60°C, all toxins
could be detected, but with preheating at 80°C, BTX A and B and ricin became undetectable. About 20% SEB could be detected
after heating at 80°C, but this detection ability was completely removed after heating at 100°C. The effects of chemicals
usually used for decontamination, such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, formaldehyde, and sodium nitrite, on the
detectability of SEB, BTX A, or ricin in the BTA system were also tested. The concentrations giving 50% line intensity for
SEB, BTX A, and ricin were 3.1, 11, and 15 μM for sodium hypochlorite and 88, 210, and 60 mM for formaldehyde, respectively.
The addition of hydrogen peroxide or sodium nitrite did not decrease the detectability even when used at high concentrations. 相似文献

A case of polycythemia vera complicated by chronic renal failure under maintenance hemodialysis requiring parathyroidectory
(PTH) for secondary hyperparathyroidism (2° HPT) is reported.
A 62 year old female presented with 75000 white blood cells (WBC)/μl, 703×104 red blood cells (RBC)/μl, 23×104 platelets (PLT)/μl, hyperuricemia and hypertension in 1970 and the diagnosis of polycythemia vera was made. Hemodialysis
was started in October 1974 for chronic renal failure. Blood cells in peripheral blood rapidly decreased in number after the
beginning of dialysis, reaching the level of 10000∼20000 WBC/μl, and 150∼250×104RBC/μl. In August 1988, marked bone resorption in X-ray picture and high serum alkaline phosphatase and parathyroid hormone
(PTH) noted along with 17400 WBC/μl, 370×104RBC/μl and 35.9×104PLT/μl.
After subtotal PTX removing 3.21g parathyroid gland, serum PTH rapidly fell. At 3 months after PTX, WBC rose to 23600/μl,
RBC 372×104/μl and PLT 94.0×104/μl. At 6 months, WBC was to 31000/μl, RBC 429×104/μl and PLT 78.0×104/μl, suggesting an inhibitory action of PTH on not only RBC, but also WBC and PLT. 相似文献

Metabolism of 99mTc-ethyl cysteinate dimer (99mTc-ECD) in blood was studied mainly in vitro. When 99mTc-ECD was mixed with blood taken from 12 subjects, the octanol extraction ratio of ECD (y) decreased rapidly and the octanol extraction ratio-time profile well fitted a monoexponential curve (y = Ae-kt/1000, A, k: constant, t: time after mixing). The k value and hematocrit (Ht) were significantly correlated (k = 0.376Ht-3.27, r = 0.897, p less than 0.001), therefore, it was suggested that the majority of the enzyme which dissolves ECD exists in red blood cells. When ECD was mixed with blood, there were more hydrophilic products of ECD in plasma than those generated by the enzyme in plasma. In vivo input function of 99mTc-ECD was calculated by arterial blood sampling and octanol extraction. The duration of effective input was relatively short, which was attributed to rapid decrease of octanol extraction ratio in vivo. 相似文献

Two patients with diabetes mellitus had persistent hypouricemia due to increased urate clearance; the degree of the apparent renal hypouricemia with uricosuria was quite mild. At the onset of diabetes, their serum urate levels were normal. Even after good diabetes control in both cases, hypouricemia continued. Based on the pharmacological evaluation in both patients, pyrazinamide administration could partially decrease urate clearance, however, suppression by pyrazinamide was less than in normal subjects, and probenecid increased urate clearance. These results suggest that the present cases had a renal abnormality affecting tubular presecretory reabsorption of urate, which might be due to diabetes mellitus. 相似文献

A cerebral type of Lewy body disease (LBD) is proposed. Lewy body disease was split formerly into three types: brainstem type, transitional type and diffuse type. The diffuse type is now called diffuse Lewy body disease (DLBD). These three types are characterized pathologically by the presence of a large number of Lewy bodies in the CNS. In the brainstem type, Lewy bodies are numerous in the brainstem and diencephalon nuclei, and in DLBD, a vast number are present not only in these nuclei but also in the cerebral cortex and amygdala. In the cerebral type of LBD, as many Lewy bodies are found in the cerebral cortex and in the amygdala as there are in DLBD, but only rarely are they present in the brainstem and diencephalon nuclei. Thus, this type of LBD is different from other types in that it has no parkinson pathology. Therefore, parkinsonism fails to occur throughout the whole clinical course of this disease. The existence of a cerebral type of LBD suggests that Lewy bodies occur in the cerebral cortex earlier than in the brainstem nuclei and that cortical Lewy bodies appear even when the mesocortical dopaminergic system is intact. In addition, this might explain why dementia frequently precedes parkinsonism in DLBD. 相似文献

Effects of different inspiratory concentrations of sevoflurane (fluorometyl-1,1,1,3,3,3,-hexafluoro-2-propylether) on blood pressure, heart rate and efferent activities of cardiac sympathetic, cardiac parasympathetic and renal sympathetic nerves were examined using rats either under the resting condition or during noxious mechanical stimulation of a hindpaw. Under the resting condition, an increase in the inspiratory concentration of sevoflurane from 2.1% to 4.2% gradually caused a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate. With the increase in the sevoflurane concentration, cardiac sympathetic nerve activity decreased, whereas renal sympathetic nerve and cardiac parasympathetic nerve activities did not change significantly. When noxious mechanical stimulation was applied to a hind-paw by pinching, blood pressure and heart rate, renal sympathetic and cardiac sympathetic nerve activities all increased at the 2.1% concentration of sevoflurane. The responses of these parameters were attenuated at the 3.1% concentration of sevoflurane and almost disappeared at the 4.2% concentration. Apoptosis has been recently implicated in the dying process of neurons under several pathological conditions including ischemia. However, although apoptosis was originally defined on the basis of its unique ultrastructural features (Kerr et al., 1972. Br. J. Cancer 26, 239-257; Wyllie et al., 1980. Int. Rev. Cytol. 68, 251-306), unambiguous ultrastructural evidence of apoptosis has been rarely demonstrated in the adult brain. In this study, we examined ultrastructural changes in mouse hippocampal neurons after transient hypoxic-ischemia. A small population of dentate granule cells showed typical apoptotic ultrastructures that could be used as internal morphological standards of apoptosis, whereas most other hippocampal neurons consistently showed a distinct form of cellular disintegration. Nuclei of the latter cells shrank and became TUNEL-positive but were distinguishable from apoptotic nuclei by both the presence of characteristic reticular-formed chromatin condensation and the absence of nuclear fragmentation. Perikarya of degenerating neurons also shrank as in apoptosis, but apoptotic bodies were not observed. Although organelles other than mitochondria disappeared almost completely from the perikarya, neither plasma nor mitochondrial membranes were disrupted, indicating that these changes were also different from typical necrosis. The presence of a novel form of cell death suggests the necessity of morphological re-examination of neuronal death, particularly in mature neurons in vivo. 相似文献

The caudal part of the fastigial nucleus, or the fastigial oculomotor region (FOR), plays an important role in executing accurate saccades. Inactivation of a monkey FOR leads to dysmetric saccades. Currently available data suggest that the dysmetria could be described as a parametric, uniform change in saccadic gain or, alternatively, as a constant error in the specification of the saccadic goal. To discriminate between these two possibilities, we examined the effect of FOR inactivation in the monkey. After a unilateral injection of muscimol into the FOR, ipsiversive saccades overshot a target. Gains were similar for movements of different sizes. The overshoot increased proportionately with the target distance and had a very small constant component. The present study indicates that the hypermetria of ipsiversive saccades after inactivation of the monkey FOR is primarily due to a uniform gain increase for all sizes of saccades. 相似文献
