OBJECTIVE: Nocturnal enuresis is a common pediatric problem, the etiology of which is unclear. In recent years, various studies have been published stating that children with nocturnal enuresis exhibit growth and skeletal maturation retardation. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we included 27 patients (16 boys, 11 girls) between the ages of 6 and 14 years who had presented with primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) complaints. We included in the evaluation 19 healthy subjects (12 boys, 7 girls), who were the siblings of the children with PNE, as the control group. RESULTS: The patients in both groups were similar in chronological age, bone age, height and weight, with no significant difference between groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The two groups in our study consisted of the same genetic background. Thus, our results were found to be different from the previous studies. We have concluded that there is no direct relationship between enuresis nocturnal and skeletal maturation.  相似文献

Bay K 8644 potentiated and augmented 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)-induced contractions in the rabbit, isolated aorta preparation, as manifested in leftward shift and increase in the asymptote of 5-HT E/[A] (effect vs concentration) curves. The operational model of agonism (Black & Leff, 1983) was used to analyse this interaction and the concomitant effects of irreversible receptor alkylation by phenoxybenzamine. The competitive effects of spiperone in the presence and absence of Bay K 8644 were also examined. From these analyses it is concluded that Bay K 8644 elicits its potentiating effects by increasing the efficacy of 5-HT at the 5-HT2 receptor with no alteration in affinity. This is consistent with the known effect of Bay K 8644 of causing an increase in the functional concentration of plasmalemmal calcium channels coupled to the 5-HT2 receptors in this preparation. The positively co-operative shape of the 5-HT E/[A] curves obtained in the aorta and the quantitative nature of their potentiation by Bay K 8644 indicated that the coupling of 5-HT2 receptor occupancy to intracellular calcium concentration is linear and that the co-operativity resides in the subsequent relation between intracellular calcium and pharmacological effect. Bay K 8644 may serve as a probe for differentiating between the types of calcium channels that transduce 5-HT receptor-mediated effects in different systems. Such information would be useful in the classification of agonist interactions with 5-HT receptors.  相似文献

A lesion with both the clinical and fluorescein angiographic appearance of the classical retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) tear was discovered over the dome of an actively growing metastatic choroidal tumor in a patient with a previous history of breast carcinoma. However, our patient exhibited no evidence of pigment epithelial detachment or age-related macular degeneration, the underlying cause of the RPE tear. Although we cannot be sure that a true RPE tear did not exist over our patient's tumor, more likely, we are observing a tumor induced zone of RPE dehiscence accompanied by RPE proliferation at its border, giving a very similar fundus appearance. Possible pathogenic mechanisms for the finding in our patient, and a comparison to those mechanisms responsible for the classical RPE tear, are discussed.  相似文献

The use of a skeletonized internal thoracic artery in coronary artery bypass graft surgery has been shown to confer certain advantages over a traditional pedicled technique, particularly in certain patient groups. Recent reports indicate that radial and gastroepiploic arteries can also be harvested using a skeletonized technique. The aim of this study is to systematically review the available evidence regarding the use of skeletonized radial and gastroepiploic arteries within coronary artery bypass surgery, focusing specifically on it's effect on conduit length and flow, levels of endothelial damage, graft patency and clinical outcome. Four electronic databases were systematically searched for studies reporting the utilisation of the skeletonization technique within coronary revascularisation surgery in humans. Reference lists of all identified studies were checked for any missing publications. There appears to be some evidence that skeletonization may improve angiographic patency, when compared with pedicled vessels in the short to mid-term. We have found no suggestion of increased complication rates or increased operating time. Skeletonization may increase the length of the conduit, and the number of sequential graft sites, but no clear clinical benefits are apparent. Our study suggests that there is not enough high quality or consistent evidence to currently advocate the application of this technique to radial or gastroepiploic conduits ahead of a traditional pedicled technique.  相似文献

High serum fluoride (F-) in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is associated with risk of renal osteodystrophy and other bone changes. This study was done to determine F- in normal healthy controls and patients with ESRD on haemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD). Seventeen healthy controls (12 males, 5 females) and 39 ESRD patients on dialysis (17 males, 22 females) were recruited in the study in a community with 47.4 +/- 3.28 microM/l (range 44-51 microM/l) of F- content in drinking water. Control subjects showed a mean serum F- concentration of 1.08 +/- 0.350 microM/l. Males in control group showed slightly higher F- levels (1.15 +/- 0.334, range 0.55-1.9 microM/l) than females (0.92 +/- 0.370, range 0.6-1.5 microM/l). Mean serum F- concentration did not correlate significantly with age and sex among control subjects, whereas such correlation was observed in patients with ESRD on dialysis. Mean serum F- concentration was significantly higher in patients on dialysis (2.67 +/- 1.09, range 0.8-5.2 microM/l) than normal controls. When grouped according to sex, the mean serum F- concentration in males (3.05 +/- 1.04, range 1.8-5.2 microM/l) was significantly higher than females (2.38 +/- 1.08, range 0.8-5.2 microM/l). When patients were grouped according to age, it was observed that F- concentration was significantly higher in patients with age groups 21-70 (2.86 +/- 1.05) than those with age group 13-20 years (1.42 +/- 0.531). Thus F- concentration correlated with age and sex, being higher in males and above 20 years. Despite appreciable clearance of F- (39-90%) across the peritoneum, patients on CAPD showed higher serum F- concentration than those on HD (3.1 +/- 1.97 vs 2.5 +/- 1.137 microM/l). Of the total 39 patients on dialysis 39% had their serum F- concentration above 3.0 microM/l, posing the risk of renal osteodystrophy.   相似文献

1. We measured the ratio of ETA and ETB sub-types in the media (containing mainly smooth muscle) of human cardiac arteries (aorta, pulmonary and coronary), internal mammary arteries and saphenous veins. 2. In saturation experiments, [125I]-endothelin-1 ([125I]-ET-1) bound with high affinity to the media of each vessel (n = 3 individuals or homogenate preparations +/- s.e. mean): coronary artery, KD = 0.14 +/- 0.02 nM, Bmax = 71.0 +/- 21.0 fmol mg-1 protein; pulmonary artery, KD = 0.85 +/- 0.25 nM, Bmax = 15.2 +/- 10.3 fmol mg-1 protein; aorta, KD = 0.51 +/- 0.02 nM, Bmax = 9.4 +/- 4.4 fmol mg-1 protein; internal mammary artery. KD = 0.34 +/- 0.31 nM, Bmax = 2.0 +/- 0.5 fmol mg-1 protein and saphenous vein, KD = 0.28 +/- 0.05 nM, Bmax = 52.8 +/- 1.0 fmol mg-1 protein. In each vessel, over the concentration-range tested, Hill slopes were close to unity and a one site fit was preferred to a two site model. 3. In competition binding assays, the ETA selective ligand, BQ123 inhibited the binding of 0.1 nM [125I]-ET-1 to the media in a biphasic manner. In each case, a two site fit was preferred to a one or three site model: coronary artery, KDETA = 0.85 +/- 0.03 nM, KDETB = 7.58 +/- 2.27 microM, ratio = 89:11%; pulmonary artery, KDETA = 0.27 +/- 0.05 nM, KDETB = 24.60 +/- 5.34 microM, ratio = 92:8%; aorta, KDETA = 0.80 +/- 0.40 nM, KDETB = 2.67 +/- 2.60 microM ratio = 89:11%; saphenous vein, KDETA = 0.55 +/- 0.17 nM, KDETB = 14.4 +/- 0.26 microM, 85:15% (n = 3 individuals or homogenate preparations +/- s.e. mean). BQ123 showed up to 18000 fold selectivity for the ETA over the ETB sub-type. The ETA-selective ligand, [125I]-PD151242 labelled 85% of the receptors detected by a fixed concentration of [125I]-ET-1 in media of internal mammary artery, measured by quantitative autoradiography. In contrast, the density of ETB receptors detected with [125I]-BQ3020 was 7.0 +/- 1.5 amol mm-2, representing about 8% of [125I]-ET-1.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
