Pure spin current based devices have attracted great interest in recent days. Spin current injection into non-magnetic materials is essential for the design and development of such pure spin current based devices. In this context, organic semiconductors (OSCs) can be potential non-magnetic materials over widely explored heavy metals. This is due to the relatively low spin–orbit coupling of OSCs, which is essential to host the spin current with a large spin diffusion length and long spin-relaxation time. This research work demonstrates the harvesting of spin currents at the perylene diimide (PDI)/permalloy (Py) based OSC interface. The observed high linewidth broadening of 2.18 mT from the ferromagnetic resonance spectra indicates the presence of giant spin pumping from Py to PDI. The resultant spin-mixing conductance, 1.54 × 1018 m−2 quantifies the amount of spin current injected from Py to PDI, which is in a similar range to ferromagnet/heavy metals.

The spin injection from permalloy into an adjacent perylene diimide (PDI) layer is demonstrated via ferromagnetic resonance associated linewidth broadening. The spin mixing conductance is found to be 1.54×1018 m−2 in a similar range to FM/heavy metal.  相似文献

Correlation in functional MRI activity between spatially separated brain regions can fluctuate dynamically when an individual is at rest. These dynamics are typically characterized temporally by measuring fluctuations in functional connectivity between brain regions that remain fixed in space over time. Here, dynamics in functional connectivity were characterized in both time and space. Temporal dynamics were mapped with sliding‐window correlation, while spatial dynamics were characterized by enabling network regions to vary in size (shrink/grow) over time according to the functional connectivity profile of their constituent voxels. These temporal and spatial dynamics were evaluated as biomarkers to distinguish schizophrenia patients from controls, and compared to current biomarkers based on static measures of resting‐state functional connectivity. Support vector machine classifiers were trained using: (a) static, (b) dynamic in time, (c) dynamic in space, and (d) dynamic in time and space characterizations of functional connectivity within canonical resting‐state brain networks. Classifiers trained on functional connectivity dynamics mapped over both space and time predicted diagnostic status with accuracy exceeding 91%, whereas utilizing only spatial or temporal dynamics alone yielded lower classification accuracies. Static measures of functional connectivity yielded the lowest accuracy (79.5%). Compared to healthy comparison individuals, schizophrenia patients generally exhibited functional connectivity that was reduced in strength and more variable. Robustness was established with replication in an independent dataset. The utility of biomarkers based on temporal and spatial functional connectivity dynamics suggests that resting‐state dynamics are not trivially attributable to sampling variability and head motion.  相似文献

Background

Dense Deposit Disease is a rare condition affecting the Bruch’s membrane and the glomerular basement membrane. We report the progression of the ocular manifestations over a 30 year follow up period, longer than any previous report.

Case presentation

A 44 year old male presented with pigmentary changes at the macula noted by his optician. Best corrected visual acuity at presentation was good in both eyes. Fundoscopy showed pigmentary changes and drusen, and investigation using intravenous fundus fluorescein angiography did not demonstrate any choroidal neovascular membrane. The patient subsequently developed renal failure and received a dual renal transplant. The transplanted kidneys also failed over the coming year. The patient’s vision gradually deteriorated and comparison between the images in 2010 and 1985 demonstrated a clear progression of the macula changes. Optical coherence tomography showed multiple subretinal hyper reflective drusenoid deposits. These deposits were also noted to be autofluorescent on blue auto-fluorescence. The young age at presentation of drusen, combined with the history of recurrent kidney failure and progression of subretinal deposits led to a diagnosis of dense deposit disease.

Conclusions

Dense deposit disease is a rare condition affecting Bruch’s membrane, but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any patient under the age of 50 years presenting with drusen.

Background

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the commonest infectious complication in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). No recommendations exist regarding treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria. We aimed to identify potential risk factors and microbiological profile for UTIs, the role of treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria, and effects on graft outcomes of bacteriuria within the first year post-transplantation.

Methods

We performed a retrospective analysis of UTIs in KTRs transplanted between January 2012 and December 2013 in 2 transplantation centers. Patients were routinely commenced on prophylactic sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim. Clinical and microbiological data were analyzed for the first year following transplantation.

Results

In all, 276 KTRs were evaluated; 67% were men, with a mean age of 51 years. At 12 months post-transplantation 158 (57%) KTRs had no bacteriuria, 75 (27%) had asymptomatic bacteriuria, 21 (8%) had symptomatic UTIs without further complication, and 22 (8%) with UTIs developed either pyelonephritis or urosepsis. Most frequent pathogens identified were Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli, and 36% of organisms were multidrug resistant. Female sex was a risk factor for infection (P = .002), and presence of a double-J ureteral stent significantly increased the risk of asymptomatic bacteriuria and symptomatic UTIs (P = .003). Diabetes, age, and prior transplantation did not increase risk. Presence of infection was not associated with increased rejection, with similar renal function at 12 months. For episodes of bacteriuria (n = 420, asymptomatic n = 324), untreated asymptomatic bacteriuria (n = 185) followed by symptomatic UTI with the same organism was significantly higher (P = .002) compared with cases of treated asymptomatic bacteriuria (n = 139).

Conclusion

Bacteriuria post–kidney transplantation is common, affecting nearly half of KTRs in the first year after transplantation. Treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria may be beneficial to prevent subsequent episodes of symptomatic UTIs.  相似文献
