Alkaline Hydrolysis Kinetics and No-Donor Activity of Tenonitrozole

The kinetics of alkaline hydrolysis of N-(5-nitro-2-thiazolyl)-2-thiophenylcarboxamide (tenonitrozole or atrican) has been studied by photometric and polarographic techniques, and the thermodynamic parameters in the intermediate state of this process were determined. A mechanism explaining the nitric oxide (NO) production during the hydrolytic decomposition of tenonitrozole is proposed. It is suggested that the antiprotozoal and antimicrobial activity of this drug under anaerobic conditions is related to the formation of nitro radical anions and NO. Under aerobic and microaerophilic conditions, the hydrolysis of tenonitrozole may lead to the formation of a peroxynitrite anion, which is a strong cytotoxic agent. __________ Translated from Khimiko-Farmatsevticheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 39, No. 6, pp. 15 – 18, June, 2005.     

Selection of the method of renal revascularization in arteriosclerosis of the renal arteries

The work has analyzed results of 91 transaortal endarterectomies and 66 prostheses of renal arteries with the autovein. A preliminarily arterialized autovein is proposed as an autotransplant. The arterialization is achieved by inclusion of the autovein in the peripheral arterial system where the vein is gradually transformed and within 10-12 weeks its structure and biomechanical properties become closer to those of the artery of the musculo-elastic type. Preliminary arterialization excludes dilatatory changes of the autovenous transport.     

Prolonged cardioselective blockade of beta-1 adrenoreceptors in combination with increased diuresis as a method of choice in the treatment of hypertension]

The clinical effects of Tenoric, a long-acting combined drug (atenolol and chlorthalidone in a tablet), were studied in 31 patients with Stages I and II hypertensive disease, by using echocardiography, daily automatic blood pressure monitoring, bicycle ergometry, measurements of plasma renin and aldosterone. The drug was found to be highly clinically effective in labile and sustained hypertension. When given once or twice a day, it makes it possible to reliably monitor blood pressure, improve hemodynamic parameters, as reflected by lower cardiac output and decreased peripheral vascular resistance, reduce the estimated mass of the left myocardium, alleviate a pressor response to exercise and enhance its tolerance, lower plasma renin levels. The side effects of the drug are minimal and include moderate bradycardia. Peripheral vasospasm and systemic weakness were observed in single cases. There were no atherogenic changes in lipid spectrum and disturbed glucose and uric acid metabolism during the drug therapy.

This paper discusses goals and objectives of the Soviet project to build a space medical laboratory "Medilab". Special attention is given to the design, structure and mathematical support of the dedicated biomedical laboratory.     

Immunocytochemical demonstration of brain neurons using NeuN as a selective marker

The aim of the present study was to find optimal protocol of immunocytochemical reaction to NeuN nuclear protein for light and laser confocal microscopy, which would exclude the antigen heat unmasking procedure that results in deteriorating the state of the tissue and requires expensive adhesive-coated slides. Best preservation of the antigen was found to be provided by fixation in zinc-formalin and Bouin's fixative (for a period of less than 24 hrs). Two protocols allowing to avoid antigen heat unmasking procedure during demonstration of the NeuN neuronal label in paraffin sections by the light and confocal microscopy are presented.
