Two linear vinyl polymers carrying amido and primary amino groups in the side chains were synthesized and characterized. Their behaviour in aqueous solution was investigated by potentiometric, viscometric and calorimetric techniques. In both cases, the basicity constants show a linear dependence on the degree of protonation α, while the enthalpy values of protonation do not. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated auditory involuntary and voluntary attention in children aged 6-8, 10-12 and young adults. The strength of distracting stimuli (20% and 5% pitch changes) and the amount of allocation of attention were varied. METHODS: In an auditory distraction paradigm event-related potentials (ERPs) and behavioral data were measured from subjects either performing a sound duration discrimination task or watching a silent video. RESULTS: Pitch changed sounds caused prolonged reaction times and decreased hit rates in all age groups. Larger distractors (20%) caused stronger distraction in children, but not in adults. The amplitudes of mismatch negativity (MMN), P3a, and reorienting negativity (RON) were modulated by age and by voluntary attention. P3a was additionally affected by distractor strength. Maturational changes were also observed in the amplitudes of P1 (decreasing with age) and N1 (increasing with age). P2-modulation by voluntary attention was opposite in young children and adults. CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest quantitative and qualitative changes in auditory voluntary and involuntary attention and distraction during development. The processing steps involved in distraction (pre-attentive change detection, attention switch, reorienting) are functional in children aged 6-8 but reveal characteristic differences to those of young adults. In general, distractibility as indicated by behavioral and ERP measures decreases from childhood to adulthood. SIGNIFICANCE: Behavioral and ERP markers for different processing stages involved in voluntary and involuntary attention reveal characteristic developmental changes from childhood to young adulthood. 相似文献

Malignant myoepitheliomas are rare tumors of salivary glands. Most occur in the parotid gland; few other sites of origin are described. Malignant myoepithelioma of the rhinopharynx has only been reported twice. Because the lesion is so rare, there are no specific indications for its treatment. Defibrotide, a simple strand polydeoxyribonucleotide of mammalian origin with a molecular weight of 20,000 daltons, given intravenously to the rabbit before and after production of left ventricular infarction, prevents the alteration of the contractile response to postsynaptic adrenergic stimulation tested in isolated perfused heart preparations 3 days after coronary artery occlusion. According to the dose-response curves for isoproterenol and tyramine, left ventricular dP/dtmax was significantly depressed in infarcted hearts, whereas the dose-response curve for the inotropic effect of phenylephrine was markedly enhanced. These alterations were prevented by pretreatment of the rabbits with defibrotide (32 mg/kg/h i.v. for 6 h). In fact the potency ratios, calculated from the dose-response curves related to dP/dtmax of isoproterenol, tyramine, and phenylephrine in infarcted and control hearts excised from defibrotide treated and shamoperated rabbits, are nearly 1. The observed alterations in myocardial contractility in infarcted hearts seem to be specific for postsynaptic alpha and beta-adrenoceptors since the dose-response curve of left ventricular dP/dtmax for histamine is not different from control. The results obtained with defibrotide reflect the ability of this substance to protect the myocardial tissue from ischemic damage: this is also supported by the capacity of defibrotide (8 mg/kg/h i.v. for 6.5 h) to prevent the reduction of CPK-activity in the infarcted ventricle. Finally, we suggest that the observed beneficial effect of defibrotide in rabbit heart may also be explained by the antithrombotic effect of this substance, which is based on its profibrinolytic activity and PGI2-release. 相似文献

The present study addressed auditory processing in 8-11-year-old children with developmental dyslexia by means of event-related brain potentials (ERP). Cortical sound reception was evaluated by recording N250 responses to syllables and tones and cortical sound discrimination by analyzing the mismatch negativity (MMN) to syllable and tone changes. We found that both cortical sound reception and sound discrimination were impaired in dyslexic children. The analysis of the data obtained from two dyslexic subgroups, Dyslexics-1 being impaired in non-word reading (or both non-word and frequent word reading) and Dyslexics-2 in frequent word reading but not in non-word reading, revealed that the MMN was specifically diminished in the latter group whereas it was normal-like in Dyslexics-1. However, no differences were found between these subgroups in sound reception as indicated by the responses elicited by the standard stimuli. These results show that different diagnostic subgroups of dyslexics have different patterns of auditory processing deficits as suggested by similarly impaired sound reception in both dyslexic groups and the sound-discrimination impairment specific to one of the groups. 相似文献

The bcl-2 protein is a membrane protein involved in prolonging cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis. The HER-2 oncogene, which is located on chromosome 17 and encodes for a tyrosine-kinase growth factor receptor, is amplified and HER-2/neu is overexpressed in 25% to 30% of breast carcinomas. The authors analyzed the bcl-2 expression and the bcl-2 gene and HER-2/neu overexpression and amplification in FIGO stage IIIC, serous, G3, ovarian carcinomas obtained from living patients who had no evident disease 5 years after primary treatment compared with ovarian carcinomas obtained from patients, matched for stage, grade of differentiation, and treatment, who had died of progression of disease no later than 2 years after primary treatment. bcl-2 overexpression was statistically correlated with progression of disease during first-line chemotherapy (P=0.021). The HER-2/neu status was found not to correlate with progression of disease during first-line chemotherapy. Both bcl-2 and HER-2/neu expression were not statistically associated with the clinical outcome of ovarian cancer patients. Gene amplification of the HER-2/neu chromosome 17 was found in all the HER-2/neu, 3+ score, positive-staining ovarian carcinomas. None of the analyzed samples revealed a translocation t(14;18)(q32;q21) in the bcl-2 gene. The knowledge of additional prognostic or even predictive factors, such as bcl-2 expression, in patients with advanced ovarian carcinoma before the primary chemotherapeutic treatment may help in the management of patients who require a more tailored treatment. In addition, the gene amplification of the HER-2/neu suggests that HER-2 is a potential target for treatment in ovarian cancer. 相似文献

We analyzed in advanced ovarian serous G3 carcinoma the correlation between epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpression and tumor angiogenesis and their relation with clinical outcome. Microvessel density (MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were statistically correlated with disease-free interval and death from disease both in univariate and multivariate analyses while EGFR expression was not correlated with clinical outcome. MVD was significantly associated with progression of disease during chemotherapy while VEGF and EGFR expression were not correlated with responsiveness to chemotherapy (Fisher's exact test). VEGF expression was correlated with MVD (Fisher's exact test). EGFR showed a trend to correlation with MVD. Further studies focusing on the use of angiogenesis inhibitors in addition to EGFR inhibitors on ovarian carcinoma cells may produce therapeutic strategies in the selection of tailored therapies in ovarian cancer patients. 相似文献
