Vasodilator preparations in the combined treatment of mandibular fractures with disordered regional hemodynamics]

A total of 130 patients with mandibular fractures of various sites were observed. One group of these patients were administered routine treatment, the other group patients were administered drugs improving the local circulation along with the physical modalities. Local circulation normalized two times sooner in this latter group, which fact accelerated the reparative processes and the treatment resulted in a sooner coalition of bone fragments and recovery of the working ability and functional parameters.     

The role of low-frequency ultrasound in the combined treatment of alveolitis]

The authors claim that combined use of a special therapeutic paste and low-frequency ultrasound for therapy of alveolitis help reduce the number of visits to a dentist and shorten the treatment duration. Fifteen patients were treated by this method. They had to visit the dentist two times less and the number of invalidity days was less by 2.2 days, on an average.     

Cultures of human fetal pancreatic islet cells

Cultures of islets cells were obtained from the cadaveric pancreas of 16–25-week human fetuses. During culture two waves of mitotic activity were observed. Changes in somatotrophic and lactotrophic functions of the adenohypophysis in rats with acute alloxan diabetes

By electrophoresis followed by colorimetric study of the stained gels an increased content of growth hormone and prolactin was found in the pituitary of rats during the development of alloxan diabetes. The STH and prolactin levels 4–5 days after injection of alloxan were higher by 45–58 and 38–43% respectively than in intact animals. Experiments on primary cell cultures using [¹⁴C]-L-leucine as labeled precursor revealed increased secretory activity of the somatotrophs and lactotrophs of rats with alloxan diabetes.Laboratory of Biological Standardization of Hormones, Institute of Experimental Endocrinology and Hormone Chemistry, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, Moscow. Present-day fiber endoscopy in the diagnosis and therapeutic tactics in foreign bodies of the upper digestive tract

Characterization of foreign bodies and their localization in the digestive tract in 404 patients is given. Surgical methods of treatment of such patients are described. Endoscopy was used for examination and treatment. The adequate anesthesia is thought by the authors to be necessary for a successful endoscopic removal of the foreign bodies. The indications for general anesthesia are enumerated. The endoscopic removal of the foreign bodies during surgical interventions are indicated in patients with the perforation of the esophagus by a foreign body.
