The separation of CO2/CH4 can be enhanced by impregnating porous carbon with iron oxide. Dispersion of iron oxide is one of the critical factors which supports the separation process performance. Iron oxide dispersion can be enhanced by enriching the oxygen functional groups on the carbon surface. This study investigates three distinct oxidation processes: oxidation with a 10% H2O2 solution, ozonation with distilled water, and ozonation with a 10% H2O2 solution. The research steps included the following: (i) oxidation, (ii) impregnation of iron oxide followed by calcination, (iii) material characterization, and (iv) material performance analysis. Materials were characterized using N2 sorption analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis (SEM-EDX), and Fourier transform infrared analysis (FT-IR). Iron oxide was well dispersed on the carbon surface, as evidenced by the elemental mapping of materials. In addition, the oxygen functional groups increased significantly in the range of 28.6–79.7% following the oxidation process, as indicated by the elemental component using SEM-EDX analysis. The impregnation of iron oxide on oxidized carbon ozonated with distilled water (COA–Fe) obtained a maximum CO2 uptake capacity of 3.0 mmol g−1 and CO2/CH4 selectivity increased by up to 190% at a temperature of 30 °C and pressure of 1 atm. Furthermore, the enhancement of CO2/CH4 separation up to 1.45 times was the best performance achieved by COA–Fe. Thus, improving iron oxide dispersion on oxidized carbon surfaces has a potential application in CO2/CH4 separation.

The separation of CO2/CH4 can be enhanced by impregnating porous carbon with iron oxide.  相似文献

We established a new, simple and rapid screening method for detection of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)-deficiency by using a new formazan substrate, 2-(2-methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H tetrazolium monosodium salt (WST-8) with a hydrogen carrier of 1-methoxyphenazine methosulfate (1-methoxy PMS), instead of a combination of 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and phenazine methosulfate (PMS), as used in many previous formazan methods. WST-8 does not react with haemoglobin, and the formed formazan is highly water-soluble, differing from MTT. Thus, the whole procedure can be performed in aqueous solution in a tube or well without any special equipment other than micropipettes. Within 1 h at room temperature, the strong orange colour of the WST-8 formazan formed in normal blood samples could be distinguished, by naked eye, from G6PD-deficient blood samples with less than 50% residual activity. We also found that reagents in the WST-8/1-methoxy PMS method were more resistant against exposure to sunlight than those in an MTT/PMS method. As the new method is both qualitative and quantitative, it is possible to express G6PD activity as increase of NADPH concentration by reading absorbance at 460 nm after incubation for 30 or 60 min.  相似文献

INTRODUCTIONFragile X syndrome (FXS) is the most prevalent X-linked intellectual disability (ID) and a leading genetic cause of autism, characterised by cognitive and behavioural impairments. The hyperexpansion of a CGG repeat in the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene leads to abnormal hypermethylation, resulting in the lack or absence of its protein. Tools for establishing the diagnosis of FXS have been extensively developed, including assays based on triplet-primed polymerase chain reaction (TP-PCR) for detection and quantification of the CGG trinucleotide repeat expansion, as well as determination of the methylation status of the alleles. This study aimed to utilise a simple, quick and affordable method for high sensitivity and specificity screening and diagnosis of FXS in institutionalised individuals with ID.METHODSA total of 109 institutionalised individuals at the Center for Social Rehabilitation of Intellectual Disability Kartini, Temanggung, Central Java, Indonesia, were screened in a three-step process using FastFrax™ Identification, Sizing and Methylation Status Kits.RESULTSTwo samples that were classified as indeterminate with respect to the 41-repeat control at the identification step were subsequently determined to be non-expanded by both sizing and methylation status analyses. Two samples classified as expanded at the identification step were determined to carry full mutation expansions > 200 repeats that were fully methylated using sizing and methylation status analyses, respectively, yielding a disease prevalence of 1.83%.CONCLUSIONRepeat expansion and methylation-specific TP-PCR is practical, effective and inexpensive for the diagnosis of FXS, especially in high-risk populations of individuals with ID of undetermined aetiology.  相似文献

We conducted a field survey of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenese (G6PD) deficiency in the eastern Indonesian islands, and analyzed G6PD variants molecularly. The incidence of G6PD deficiency in 5 ethnic groups (Manggarai, Bajawa, Nage-Keo, Larantuka, and Palue) on the Flores and Palue Islands was lower than that of another native group, Sikka, or a nonnative group, Riung. Molecular analysis of G6PD variants indicated that 19 cases in Sikka had a frequency distribution of G6PD variants similar to those in our previous studies, while 8 cases in Riung had a different frequency distribution of G6PD variants. On the other hand, from field surveys in another 8 ethnic groups (Timorese, Sumbanese, Savunese, Kendari, Buton, Muna, Minahasa, and Sangirese) on the islands of West Timor, Sumba, Sulawesi, Muna and Bangka, a total of 49 deficient cases were detected. Thirty-nine of these 49 cases had G6PD Vanua Lava (383T>C) of Melanesian origin. In our previous studies, many cases of G6PD Vanua Lava were found on other eastern Indonesian islands. Taken together, these findings may indicate that G6PD Vanua Lava is the most common variant in eastern Indonesian populations, except for Sikka.  相似文献

A new approach has been developed for environmentally friendly C-C cross-coupling reactions using bi-functional Pd(ii)-salen complex-embedded cellulose filter paper (FP@Si-PdII-Salen-[IM]OH). A Pd(ii)-salen complex bearing imidazolium [OH]moieties was covalently embedded into a plain filter paper, then used as an efficient portable catalyst for the Heck, Suzuki, and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions under environmentally friendly conditions via the filtration method. The catalytic filter paper properties were studied by EDX, XPS, TGA, ATR, XRD, and FESEM analyses. The reactions were catalyzed during reactants'' filtration over the catalytic filter paper. The modified filter paper was set up over a funnel and the reactants were passed through the catalytic filter paper several times. The effect of reaction parameters including loading of Pd(ii)-salen complex, temperature, solvent, and contact time were carefully studied and also the optimal model of conditions was presented by the design expert software. High to excellent yields were obtained for all C–C coupling types with 5 to 8 filtration times. Under optimal conditions, all coupling reactions showed high selectivity and efficiency. Another advantage of the modified filter paper was its stability and reusability for several times with preservation of catalytic activity and swellability.

A new platform has been developed for environmentally friendly C–C cross-coupling reactions via filtration of reactants through a portable Pd(II)-salen complex-embedded filter paper.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to determine the therapeutic efficacy of allicin against Candida albicans (C. albicans) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), the common etiological agents for denture stomatitis (DS). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MICs), minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFCs) of allicin were determined by the broth microdilution method followed by checkerboard microdilution method for a synergistic interaction between allicin + nystatin and allicin + CHX. The potential of allicin to eradicate C. albicans and S. aureus biofilms was assessed by treating biofilm formed on self- polymerized acrylic resin with allicin at a sub-MIC concentration for 5 min. The commercial denture cleanser (brand X) was used as a positive control. A Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the post-hoc Mann-Whitney U test was applied (SPSS 20.0), and the level of significance was set at P < 0.05. Allicin exhibited antimicrobial activity against C. albicans (MIC:8 µg/ml and MFC:16 µg/ml) and S. aureus (MIC:8 µg/ml and MBC:8 µg/ml). A synergistic interaction was observed between allicin + nystatin and allicin + CHX (FICI ≤ 0.5). Allicin exhibited significant biofilm eradication against C. albicans and S. aureus biofilms with percentages of 50.0% and 52.6%, respectively. The results of this study suggest a possible application of allicin in treating C. albicans and S. aureus infection in DS.  相似文献
