BACKGROUND: Superficial lymphatic malformations are predominantly developmental malformations of infancy, but they may arise at any age. OBJECTIVE: To describe a patient with a late-onset superficial lymphatic malformation. METHODS: Case report and literature review. RESULTS: A 53-year-old woman was evaluated for a colored lesion that developed spontaneously on the anterior abdominal wall. The lesion was treated by surgical excision. Findings on histopathologic examination of the specimen were consistent with superficial lymphatic malformation. There was no recurrence of the lesion at 4 months after the operation. CONCLUSION: Superficial lymphatic malformations can develop in adults spontaneously without the presence of any predisposing condition. Because the majority of such late-onset malformations reported in the literature are localized lesions similar to the one in our patient, surgical removal with inclusion of subcutaneous tissue usually results in cure without recurrence. 相似文献

The interactive use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques is increasing in operating theaters. A study was performed on 17 male company volunteers to assess the neurobehavioral effects of exposure to magnetic fields from a 1.5 Tesla MRI system. The subjects' neurobehavioral performances on a neurobehavioral test battery were compared in four 1-hr sessions with and without exposure to magnetic fields, and with and without additional movements. Adverse effects were found for hand coordination (-4%, P < 0.05; Pursuit Aiming II) and near visual contrast sensitivity (-16% and -15%, P < 0.10; Vistech 6000). The results from the remaining tests were inconclusive due to a strong learning effect. No additional effect from gradient fields was detected. The results indicate that working near a 1.5 Tesla MRI system may lead to neurobehavioral effects. Further research is recommended, especially in members of operating teams using interactive MRI systems. 相似文献

In the present study, reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) was used as an in vitro model to discriminate 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNCB), nickel sulfate (NiSO(4)), oxazolone (OXA), 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) and 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) as skin sensitizers from benzalkonium chloride (BC), benzoic acid (BA) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as skin irritants. Our criteria were (a) the differential IL-1alpha and IL-8 synthesis and release (b) cytotoxicity assessment by MTT assay. When the RHE are topically treated with the sensitizers, very low levels of extra- and intracellular IL-1alpha are observed although they induce significant cytotoxicity. In contrast, they exhibit a sharp maximum of IL-8 release. In the presence of the tested irritants, we observe the inverse cytokine release profile, although they induce dose-dependent cytotoxicity profiles similar to those observed with the sensitizers. Finally, IL-1alpha mRNA upregulation is observed after topical application of both sensitizers and irritants, but only the latter significantly increase extracellular IL-1alpha. In conclusion, our results suggest that the associated determination of IL-8, with IL-1alpha, and MTT conversion are at least necessary to discriminate and classify, in a single assay, irritant and sensitizing agents and represent a potential in vitro alternative to two classical in vivo assays. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors are reported to be well tolerated in patients with analgesic intolerance (AI). However, limited data are available about the long-term tolerability of these drugs. OBJECTIVE: To determine the long-term tolerability of COX-2 inhibitors in patients with Al. METHODS: Patients with AI who previously underwent single-masked, placebo-controlled oral provocation tests and were found to tolerate nimesulide, meloxicam, rofecoxib, or celecoxib were interviewed regarding the long-term use and tolerability of these drugs. RESULTS: Of 87 patients, 61 (70%) had used the recommended COX-2 inhibitor(s). Of the 61 users, 54 (89%) tolerated the drug(s) well and 7 (11%) reported adverse events. Three patients reporting adverse events were rechallenged with the responsible COX-2 inhibitor, and their results were found to be negative. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term use of COX-2 inhibitors was tolerated well by most patients with AI, and placebo-controlled oral provocation tests, as a single test, seemed to predict tolerability. Furthermore, self-reported positive reactions in the long-term should also be confirmed with rechallenge tests for definite diagnosis. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Germins and the related germin-like proteins (GLPs) are glycoproteins expressed in many plants in response to biotic and abiotic stress. To test the potential impact of germins and GLPs, recombinant germin from Triticum aestivum (tGermin) and GLPs from Arabidopsis thaliana (tGLP), both produced in transformed tobacco plants, were used. METHODS: Sera from 82 patients with type I allergy to birch, grass or mugwort pollen and/or wheat were tested in immunoblot for IgE binding to tGermin and tGLP, and the IgE reactivity after chemical and enzymatic deglycosylation was analysed. The biological activity of tGermin and tGLP was determined in a histamine release assay and in skin prick testing (SPT). RESULTS: In an immunoblotting assay, 24 out of 82 tested sera (29.26%) from allergic patients showed IgE-binding to tGermin, and 18 of these sera (21.95%) displayed also IgE-binding to tGLP. The deglycosylation experiments indicated that glycan moieties contribute significantly to the IgE-binding of tGermin and tGLP. Both tGermins and tGLP induced specifically histamine release in an in vitro assay as well as in SPT. CONCLUSION: Our in vitro and in vivo findings demonstrate that germin and GLPs are capable to bind IgE most likely via carbohydrate determinants, and represent allergenic molecules. 相似文献

PURPOSE: t(12;21)(p13; q22), present in approximately 25% of pediatric precursor B-ALL, is highly sensitivity to L-asparaginase and the prognosis depends on the intensity of the treatment protocol. This study analyzes the relationship between the mRNA expression of the genes and fusion products involved in t(12;21), in vitro sensitivity to prednisolone, vincristine, and L-asparaginase, and long-term clinical outcome in t(12;21)+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Long-term clinical outcome in 45 t(12;21)+ ALL patients was related to mRNA expression of TEL, AML1, TEL-AML1, and AML1-TEL, determined by real-time quantitative PCR, and the in vitro sensitivity to prednisolone, vincristine, and L-asparaginase, using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assays. RESULTS: A significant approximately 3.5-fold lower TEL expression in t(12;21)+ compared with t(12;21)- ALL samples (P = 0.006) and normal controls (P = 0.004) was found. Expression of AML1 did not differ between t(12;21)+ and t(12;21)- ALL. However, AML1 expression in the leukemic cells was 2-fold higher compared with normal controls (P = 0.02). The TEL-AML1 fusion product was expressed in all t(12;21)+ cases, whereas the reciprocal fusion product AML1-TEL was expressed in only 76%. High expression levels of TEL-AML1 [hazard ratio (HR), 1.3; 95% confidence interval (95% CI), 1.10-1.57; P = 0.003], AML1-TEL (HR, 4.9; 95% CI, 1.99-12.40; P = 0.001) and AML1 (HR, 1.1; 95% CI, 1.03-1.22; P = 0.006) were associated with a poor long-term clinical outcome within t(12;21)+ ALL. Cellular drug resistance towards prednisolone, vincristine, and L-asparaginase could not explain this predictive value. Multivariate analysis including age and WBC showed that only high AML1-TEL expression is an independent poor prognostic factor in t(12;21)+ childhood ALL. Background:Nutritional habits of patients with functional dyspepsia can affect the progression of functional dyspepsia. We aimed to determine the foods and dietary habits that may cause symptoms of postprandial fullness, early satiety, epigastric pain, and epigastric burning in functional dyspepsia patients.Methods:Sixty functional dyspepsia patients, who were diagnosed according to Rome IV criteria in the endoscopy unit of a gastroenterology institute, were included in the study. Data on the demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, nutritional habits, and food consumption frequency questionnaire of functional dyspepsia patients were collected.Results:Postprandial fullness was found more common in those who preferred roasting as a cooking method. There was no significant difference between symptoms and meal frequency. Epigastric burning and pain were found to be more pronounced in women, and alcohol consumption was less in patients who experienced more epigastric pain. In non-smoker participants, the complaint of early satiety was lower. It was found that broccoli, radish, celery, green olives, and olive oil consumption was less in participants who experienced excessive postprandial fullness. Patients with stomach pain consumed less dry fruits, green olives, butter, alcohol, and fast food. It was found that patients with stomach burning consumed less alcohol and fast food.Conclusion:In conclusion, functional dyspepsia patients should avoid or reduce consuming broccoli, radish, celery, green olives, olive oil, dry fruits, and butter which may trigger symptoms. Reducing consumption of these foods, abandoning unhealthy cooking methods such as roasting, reducing smoking, and reducing consumption of alcohol and fast food might be beneficial for relieving symptoms. 相似文献
