OBJECTIVES: Resin-modified glass ionomer cements (RMGI) are hybrid materials prepared by incorporation of polymerizable components (typically 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) with possible addition of multifunctional methacrylates) into a conventional acid-base mixture (a polymeric acid with powdered calcium fluoro-aluminosilicate glasses). During setting, the photopolymerization process and the acid-base reaction affect each other. The aim of this work was to examine the effect of a 45% aqueous solution of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and the liquid component of a commercial glass ionomer cement on HEMA and triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) photopolymerization. METHODS: The polymerization was initiated by 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone (DMPA) and camphorquinone (CQ)/coinitiator system. The reaction course was monitored under Ar and air by isothermal differential scanning calorimetry. RESULTS: The main effect of addition of polyacid solution (PAA and commercial) up to 10wt% to HEMA on the polymerization initiated with DMPA was earlier onset of autoacceleration. For the process initiated by the CQ-based system, the addition of 5wt% of PAA solution strongly accelerated the polymerization and increased the conversion, both in Ar atmosphere as well as in air. TEGDMA photopolymerization was not influenced or slightly retarded by the presence of 3wt% of PAA solution (the upper limit of solubility), depending on the initiating system used. SIGNIFICANCE: Under initiation conditions used in curing of commercial dental products (CQ-based two component initiating system), the presence of polyacid-aqueous solution in HEMA-based photocurable component increases markedly the polymerization rate and the conversion both in Ar atmosphere as well as in air. This result contributes to a characterization of the setting process of RMGIs.  相似文献

Objectives

The aim of the study was to characterize the differences in the frequencies of NS3 and NS5A resistance-associated variants (RAVs) among Polish therapy-naive genotype 1 (G1) hepatitis C virus (HCV)-monoinfected and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/HCV-coinfected patients including clustering patterns and association of RAV frequency with liver fibrosis.

Methods

NS3/NS5A RAVs were identified by population sequencing in 387 directly acting antiviral treatment-naive G1-infected individuals (54 with genotype 1a (G1a) and 333 with genotype 1b (G1b)). Liver fibrosis was assessed based on histopathology or ultrasound elastography. Phylogenetic clusters were identified using maximum likelihood models. For statistics, chi-squared or two-sided Fisher's exact tests and multivariate logistic regression models were used, as appropriate.

Results

NS3 RAVs were found in 33.33% (18/54) for G1a and 2.62% (8/297) for G1b whereas NS5A variants were present in 5.55% (3/54) G1a and 9.31% (31/333) G1b sequences. Variations in NS5A 31 and 93 codon positions were found only in G1b (4.2% (14/333) for L31I/F/M and 5.39% (17/333) for Y93H). NS5A RAVs were more frequent among patients with advanced liver fibrosis (17.17% (17/99) for F3–F4 versus 6.94% (17/245) for F0–F2; p 0.004) or liver cirrhosis (20.34% (12/59) for F4 versus 7.72% (22/285) for F0–F3; p 0.003). Liver cirrhosis (F4) was associated with higher odds ratio of the NS5A RAVs among HCV-infected patients (odds ratio 2.34, 95% CI 1.004–5.291; p 0.049). NS5A RAVs were less frequent among sequences forming clusters and pairs (5.16% (8/155) versus 11.21% (26/232); p 0.039).

Conclusions

Presence of NS5A RAVs correlated with progression of liver fibrosis and represents de novo selection of variants rather than transmission of drug resistance. Hence, the presence of NS5A RAVs may be a predictor for a long-lasting HCV infection.  相似文献

Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the neurodegenerative process and can impair cognitive functions. In the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), an adequate consumption of dietary antioxidants may be a major factor. The objective of the study was to estimate selenium (Se), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and total antioxidant status (TAS) in the serum of patients with AD in relation to their cognitive functions and dietary habits. A total of 110 patients (aged 54–93 years) with early or moderate AD, as well as 60 healthy people (aged 52–83 years) were studied. The severity of the disease was assessed using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) scale. Food-frequency questionnaires were implemented to collect the dietary data. The concentrations of Se, Cu and Zn in the sera were determined by the atomic absorption spectrometry method. TAS was estimated spectrophotometrically using ready-made kits (Randox). Significantly lower concentrations of Se, Zn and TAS, and higher Cu:Zn ratio in the serum of patients with AD, compared to healthy people, were observed. A low correlation between the MMSE score and TAS in the serum of AD patients and significantly higher MMSE values in patients with TAS above the reference range were also noted. In patients with serum Cu concentration above the norm, significantly lower MMSE values were found. Selected dietary habits such as the frequency of consumption of various food products had a significant impact on the concentration of the assessed parameters in the serum of people with AD.  相似文献

An appropriate balanced diet and dietary patterns are important at every stage of life, but in the case of young patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), it is especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the study was to assess health and nutritional behaviors, mainly adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD), during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland among women with T1DM, and to compare them with a healthy population. This survey (based on a questionnaire) was conducted in December 2020 and included 219 young women, healthy (n = 106) and with T1DM (n = 113), from northeast Poland. Over 30% of the study group admitted that they did not engage in any physical activity. A large proportion declared that their screen time was 5–7 h a day (48% in control and 40% in T1DM group). High intakes of sweet-beverages, sweets and red meat, but also low intakes of olive oil, fish and nuts were observed. The vast majority of participants (60% vs. 71%) were moderately adherent to the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS). The study demonstrated that despite the similarity between the behaviors of healthy people and those with T1DM, negative health and nutritional practices, such as low physical activity, long screen time, medium and high levels of stress and inappropriate eating habits were observed.  相似文献

The aim of our study was to assess the metabolic consequences of short-term administration of growth hormone in children after gut resection and influence on polyamine production in red blood cells (RBC). Twelve children aged 4-60 months were studied. All children remained on parenteral nutrition and 11 also received oral feeding. Total non-protein energy intake was 429 +/- 86 kJ/kg body weight (BW)/day. Recombinant growth hormone (GH) was administered subcutaneously at a dose of 0.3 IU/kg BW/day for 10 days. Resting energy expenditure (REE; kJ/kg BW/day) was: 316.07 +/- 54.08 before and 346.04 +/- 54.40 during GH administration (P < 0.02), but daily weight gain before GH administration was significantly lower than during treatment. A significant increase of polyamine concentrations was observed in the RBC (spermidine: 30.1 +/- 15.1 and 43.8 +/- 24.9 nmol/ml packed RBC, P < 0.003; spermine: 15.6 +/- 5.1 and 19.6 +/- 10.6 nmol/ml packed RBC, P < 0.02) and in jejunal mucosa (spermidine: 172.10 +/- 142.35 nmol/g tissue and 193.92 +/- 108.15 nmol/g tissue). The authors concluded that increased polyamine concentrations in the RBC and jejunal mucosa reflect a cellular response to GH administration. The anabolic effect of GH results in higher weight gain, although increased REE may indicate increased energy requirements during GH treatment.  相似文献

Lactose-absorption capacity was examined in 275 apparently healthy Polish adolescents and adults (214 females and 61 males with an average age of 29·1 years) using a field version of the lactose-tolerance test with breath hydrogen determination. In the total group, 172 lactose absorbers (62·5%) and 103 lactose malabsorbers (37·5%) were identified. Reported milk intolerance and symptoms of lactose intolerance were significantly more frequent in lactose malabsorbers. Subdivision according to the birthplaces of the probands' grandparents did not reveal significant regional differences. The unexpectedly high frequency of lactose malabsorption is further evidence for concentric genetic clines of lactase gene frequencies extending from southern Scandinavia, the area with the lowest observed frequencies of selective adult hypolactasia, to the south and the east.  相似文献

Tench (Tinca tinca) is apparently the only known member of the Cyprinidae in which ovulation is stimulated following administration of a low dose of GnRH analogue (GnRHa) without a dopamine inhibitor. This study evaluated LH release effectiveness of the most commonly used GnRHa and clarified whether LH secretion followed by ovulation is subject to inhibitory dopaminergic control in tench. Fish were intraperitoneally injected with three types of GnRHa, GnRHa with dopamine inhibitor metoclopramide (combined treatment), or the dopamine inhibitor metoclopramide alone. LH concentrations at five sampling times (0, 6, 12, 24, and 33 h) together with ovulation success and fecundity index were recorded. The combined treatment triggered an almost immediate LH release peak with a gradual decline, and resulted in a high ovulation rate. In contrast to the combined treatment, an application of GnRHa alone at 10 μg kg(-1) induced gradual increase of LH concentrations with peaks close to ovulation time, and with high ovulation success. Significant differences in LH concentrations at 6 and 12h and no differences in ovulation success were found between the combined and the GnRHa alone treatments. Metoclopramide alone induced a small increase in LH with no ovulation. The study presents clear evidence of dopaminergic control of LH release in tench, with a high ovulation rate obtained after application of GnRHa alone or in combination with dopamine inhibitor.  相似文献

Concrete is the most widely used construction material nowadays. We are concerned with the computational modelling and laboratory testing of high-performance concrete (HPC). The idea of HPC is to enhance the functionality and sustainability of normal concrete, especially by its greater ductility as well as higher compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths. In this paper, the influence of three types (linear displacement, uniform traction, and periodic) of boundary conditions used in numerical homogenization on the calculated values of HPC properties is determined and compared with experimental data. We take into account the softening behavior of HPC due to the development of damage (micro-cracks), which finally leads to failure. The results of numerical simulations of the HPC samples were obtained by using the Abaqus package that we supplemented with our in-house finite element method (FEM) computer programs written in Python and the homogenization toolbox Homtools. This has allowed us to better account for the nonlinear response of concrete. In studying the microstructure of HPC, we considered a two-dimensional representative volume element using the finite element method. Because of the random character of the arrangement of concrete’s components, we utilized a stochastic method to generate the representative volume element (RVE) structure. Different constitutive models were used for the components of HPC: quartz sand—linear elastic, steel fibers—ideal elastic-plastic, and cement matrix—concrete damage plasticity. The numerical results obtained are compared with our own experimental data and those from the literature, and a good agreement can be observed.  相似文献
