In many mammals, sperm associations had been observed, but not in the mouse. In this work, mouse sperm rosettes are morphologically described inside the epididymis and during its dissolution in a culture medium. Also characterized are the saccharides present in the linking material. Sperm association and other epididymal actions are supported by sperm during epididymal transit and are verified at the caudal region, suggesting a relation between epididymal transit and sperm maturation. In drops of epididymal content obtained from distal (cauda), but not from proximal (caput and corpus) regions; dissolved in culture medium, rosettes appear to be 10 to 15 motile sperm joined by their heads. After 3 min, sperm progressively detach, disassembling the rosette. These structures are studied by several techniques, including optic, electronic (scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy), and video microscopy. At the ultrastructural level, a dense network of electron‐dense material was observed between sperm heads, joining them. Based on previous works in rat, several lectins were used to characterize the type of saccharides present in this linking material. To avoid the contact between sperm and epididymal fluid from distal region—that probably exerts an influence on sperm association—a ligature was placed between caput and corpus. This epididymal content isolated from caput did not display any rosettes after 28 days. Anat Rec, 2007. © 2007 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Conclusions
1.  Force applied to the tubular organ walls in the place of contact with the flexible rotating shaft of the dilatation catheter is normal to the wall surface and does not exceed physiological value (except for very stiff walls).
2.  Power consumption measurement allows estimation of only tangential forces.
3.  Vibromechanical dilatation is a promising technique for treating stenoses of tubular organs.

Prevalence, characteristics and the very existence of neurofibromatosis-associated diffuse lung disease remain unclear, mostly because the few studies that looked at pulmonary involvement in such patients used chest X-ray as diagnostic mean. We report on the clinical, functional and HRCT findings in a patient with neurofibromatosis-associated diffuse lung disease and provide a short literature review.  相似文献

To describe glucose status changes in patients with acromegaly receiving somatostatin analog lanreotide as primary treatment. This retrospective, single-center study conducted during 1996-2008, included acromegalic patients receiving primary lanreotide treatment. Baseline and last follow-up visit assessments included glucose status (according to American Diabetes Association criteria), growth hormone (GH), and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels. Glucose control was considered improved when fasting plasma glucose or antidiabetic treatments were reduced, and deteriorated if fasting glucose was the same/higher but with increased antidiabetic treatments. 42 patients (median age 50?years; range 29-75?years) were included. At baseline, 26 (62%) were normoglycemic, eight (19%) had impaired glucose tolerance/fasting glycemia, and eight (19%) had diabetes mellitus; family history of diabetes mellitus was significantly associated with abnormal glucose status. At final visit, the mean (SE) lanreotide dose was 108 (21) mg/month. Median treatment duration was 23?months, range 3-138?months, and 74% of patients received the 120-mg dose. Median GH levels decreased significantly (baseline, 12 [5-20] μg/l; final visit, 2.1 [1.0-4.7] μg/l; P?相似文献

Parkinson Disease (PD) and Huntington Disease (HD) are degenerative neurological diseases, which can result in impairments and activity limitations affecting the upper extremities from early in the disease process. The progressive nature of these diseases poses unique challenges for therapists aiming to effectively maximize physical functioning and minimize participation restrictions in these patient groups. Research is underway in both diseases to develop effective disease-modifying agents and pharmacological interventions, as well as mobility-focused rehabilitation protocols. Rehabilitation, and in particular task-specific interventions, has the potential to influence the upper extremity functional abilities of patients with these degenerative conditions. However to date, investigations of interventions specifically addressing upper extremity function have been limited in both PD, and in particular HD. In this paper, we provide an update of the known pathological features of PD and HD as they relate to upper extremity function. We further review the available literature on the use of outcome measures, and the clinical management of upper extremity function in both conditions. Due to the currently limited evidence base in both diseases, we recommend utilization of a clinical management framework specific for degenerative conditions that can serve as a guideline for disease management.  相似文献
