Objectives
The aim of this study was to evaluate the strength of the bond between newly introduced self-adhesive resin cements and tooth structures (i.e., enamel and dentin). Methods
Three self-adhesive cements (SmartCem2, RelyX Unicem, seT SDI) were tested. Cylindrical-shaped cement specimens (diameter, 3 mm; height, 3 mm) were bonded to enamel and dentin. Test specimens were incubated at 37 °C for 24 h. The shear bond strength (SBS) was tested in a Zwick Roll testing machine. Results were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and t-test. Statistically significant differences were defined at the α = 0.05 level. Bond failures were categorized as adhesive, cohesive, or mixed. Results
The SBS values ranged from 3.76 to 6.81 MPa for cements bonded to enamel and from 4.48 to 5.94 MPa for cements bonded to dentin (p > 0.05 between surfaces). There were no statistically significant differences between the SBS values to enamel versus dentin for any given cement type. All cements exhibited adhesive failure at the resin/tooth interface. Conclusions
Regardless of their clinical simplicity, the self-adhesive resin cements examined in this study exhibit limited bond performance to tooth structures; therefore, these cements must be used with caution. 相似文献3.

Objectives
To evaluate the social consequences of dialysis on children and their parents. Methods
From January through June 2012 short structured interviews with parents or caregivers of children on peritoneal dialysis (PD) or hemodialysis (HD) who were followed up at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, King Faisal Specialty Hospital and Research Center, or the Kidney Center at King Fahad Hospital were conducted. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Results
Thirty six children (22 boys and 16 girls) and their families were included. The mean (SD) age of the children was 11.5?±?6.87 y, and the mean (SD) duration of dialysis was 28?±?11.32 mo. Only one third of the families had the opportunity to choose the modality of dialysis. Both modalities of dialysis had a negative effect on fathers’ jobs in over 50 % of the cases. Similarly, both modalities of treatment had a considerable impact on the quality of care provided by the mothers to other family members. There was no difference between the two modalities on the frequency of admissions. Conclusions
Both PD and HD had a negative impact on fathers’ jobs and on the level of care provided by mothers to the rest of the family. 相似文献4.

Biochemical bone turnover markers (BTMs) provide important information on the diagnosis, therapy and monitoring of metabolic bone diseases including osteoporosis. One goal of antiresorptive therapy in women is to decrease biochemical BTMs to the lower half of reference intervals for healthy pre-menopausal counterparts, using newly developed automated assays of such markers. The main objectives of the present study were to: (1) establish reference interval values for the following biochemical BTMs: serum osteocalcine (s-OC), bone alkaline phosphatase (s-bone ALP), procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide (s-PINP), crosslinked C-terminal telopeptide of Type 1 collagen (s-CTX), tartarate-resistant acid phosphatase isoform 5b (s-TRACP-5b) and urinary: CTX (u-CTX), N-telopeptides of type 1 collagen (u-NTX), pyridinoline (u-PYD) and deoxypyridinoline (u-DPD) in randomly selected Saudi healthy pre-menopausal women; (2) study the changes in biochemical BTMs in relation to age in pre- and post-menopausal women and the factors reported to influence bone turnover and (3) determine the effect of menopausal status on BTMs. A total of 2125 women were studied [including (n = 1557) pre-, and (n = 568) post-menopausal women, respectively, aged 20–79 years]. A total of 765 healthy pre-menopausal women (aged 35–45 years) were used to establish reference intervals for biochemical BTMs. All women studied were medically examined and had their bone mineral density (BMD) values obtained for the lumbar spine (L1–L4) and femoral neck according to detailed inclusion criteria. In all women, values of biochemical BTMs, decreased with increasing age up to the age of 45 years, increased steeply among women in their 50s and remained increased in post-menopausal women. Significant increases were evident in all biochemical BTMs in post-menopausal women with > 5 years since menopause with the exception of s-OC, u-DPD, and u-PYD. Using stepwise multiple linear regression analysis, several variables were identified (depending on the BTM) as determinants of BTMs including age, BMI, parity, FSH, LH, PTH, s-Ca, s-Mg, s-PO4 and 25(OH)D. In the reference intervals group, there are no significant correlations between any of the biochemical BTMs and age of menarche, day of menstrual cycle, physical activity, total daily dietary calcium and caffeine intakes and parity. It is recommended that the age range 35–45 years should be used when establishing biochemical BTMs reference intervals in Saudi Arabian pre-menopausal women. 相似文献

Purpose: To evaluate shear bond strength of Molloplast‐B soft liner attached to different acrylic surfaces (smooth, rough, and Sticktech net fiber‐reinforced interfaces) after 3000 thermal cycles. Materials and Methods: Sixty‐nine specimens were fabricated by attaching Molloplast‐B soft liner to acrylic bases of three interfaces (n= 23); smooth (Group 1, control), rough (Group 2), and Sticktech net fiber‐reinforced interface (Group 3). The specimens underwent 3000 thermocycles (5 and 55°C) before being subject to a shear bond test at 2 mm/min crosshead speed. Debonding sites were investigated using an optical microscope at 40× magnification. Bond failures were categorized as adhesive, cohesive, or mixed. Results: Mean (SD) bond strength values (MPa) were: 0.71 (0.15); 0.63 (0.07); and 0.83 (0.12) for smooth, rough, and fiber‐reinforced acrylic interfaces, respectively. The mean values were analyzed using one‐way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test for pairwise comparisons (p≤ 0.05). The net fiber‐reinforced acrylic interface exhibited a statistically significantly higher bond strength value when compared to smooth and rough acrylic interfaces (P= 0.003 and P= 0.000, respectively). Modes of failure were mainly cohesive (91%), followed by mixed failures (9%). Conclusions: Molloplast‐B exhibited a stronger bond to StickTech Net fiber‐reinforced surfaces when compared to smooth and rough acrylic interfaces after thermocycling. This may enhance prosthesis serviceability during clinical use. 相似文献

Summary
The various factors that may contribute to vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency were examined among healthy Saudi pre- and postmenopausal women. Vitamin D deficiency was highly prevalent among studied Saudi women with obesity, poor sunlight exposure, poor dietary vitamin D supplementation and age as the main risk factors.Introduction
The various factors that may contribute to vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency in relation to bone health among Saudi women are not known. The main objectives of the present study were to determine the factors influencing vitamin D status in relation to serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), intact parathyroid hormone (PTH), bone turnover markers (BTMs), bone mineral density (BMD), and vitamin D receptor genotype (VDR) in healthy Saudi pre- and postmenopausal women. Methods
A total number of 1,172 healthy Saudi women living in the Jeddah area were randomly selected and studied. Anthropometric parameters, socioeconomic status, sun exposure index together with serum levels of 25(OH)D, calcitriol, intact PTH, Ca, PO4, Mg, creatinine, albumin, and biochemical BTMs were measured. BMD was measured by a dual energy X-ray absorptiometry and VDR genotypes were also determined. Results
About 80.0% of Saudi women studied exhibited vitamin D deficiency (serum 25(OH)D?<?50.0?nmol/L) with only 11.8% of all women were considered with adequate vitamin D status (serum 25(OH)D?>?75?nmol/L). Secondary hyperparathyroidism was evident in 18.5% and 24.6% in pre- and postmenopausal women with 25(OH)D?<?50?nmol/L. Serum 25(OH)D was lower (P?<?0.001) and intact PTH higher (P?<?0.001) in the upper quintiles of body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that BMI, sun exposure index, poor dietary vitamin D supplementation, WHR, and age were independent positive predictors of serum 25(OH)D values. Conclusions
Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among healthy Saudi pre-and postmenopausal women and largely attributed to obesity, poor exposure to sunlight, poor dietary vitamin D supplementation, and age. 相似文献10.
