IntroductionEndodontic sealers play a vital role in the obturation of root canal space. The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of a recently developed polyurethane expandable sealer (PES), along with its cytotoxicity and dimensional changes.MethodsL929 fibroblasts and an cell viability assay (MTS assay) were used to determine the cytotoxicity of dental sealers (AH Plus [Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland], Sure-Seal Root [Sure Dent Corporation, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea], and the PES) at 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours. An advanced choroidal neovascularization model was used to assess the effect of these sealers on angiogenesis. Thirty-six extracted single-rooted human teeth were prepared and randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 12). Obturation was performed with gutta-percha and a sealer using lateral compaction as follows: group 1, AH Plus; group 2, Sure-Seal; and group 3, PES. The average depth of sealer penetration into dentinal tubules was measured with a scanning electron microscope. Data were analyzed using 1-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey tests (level of significance, P < .05).ResultsThe values of MTS, choroidal neovascularization, and the penetration depth of PES were significantly higher than in other experimental groups (P < .05). The lowest values were noted in specimens of AH Plus, whereas the highest were detected in the PES group.ConclusionsPES showed promising results in terms of biocompatibility and dentinal tubule adaptation and penetration. 相似文献

Objective
Phenylalanine hydroxylase or its cofactor, tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), deficiency causes accumulation of phenylalanine in body fluids and central nervous system. Considering the fact that hyperphenylalaninemia is a preventable cause of mental retardation in infants, the objective of this study was to determine the incidence of congenital hyperphenylalaninemia in Fars province, south of Iran. Methods
In a period of one year from November 2007 to November 2008 blood samples were withdrawn from all newborns born in Fars province for measurement of serum phenylalanine. The samples with a serum level of≥ 2 mg/dl were referred to pediatric endocrine clinic for confirmation and determination of the type of hyperphenylalaninemia by quantitive serum phenylalanine measurements by using High-Pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) method.Findings
Nine out of 76966 newborns had a serum phenylalanine level≥2mg/dl, of which 8 cases were confirmed by HPLC. The incidence of the disease was 1:10000. The incidence of mild hyperphenylalaninemia and phenylketonuria (PKU) among the patients was 62.5% and 37.5% respectively and the incidence of BH4 deficiency was 1/76966.Conclusion
These findings indicate a high incidence of hyperphenylalaninemia, in the newborns from Fars province. The high incidence makes a comprehensive screening program for management of the disease necessary. 相似文献4.

Preclinical studies have shown beneficial effects of black seed (Nigella sativa L.) in the prevention and treatment of renal stones. Hence, we designed a study to evaluate the renal‐stone‐dissolving efficacy of black seed. Sixty patients with renal stones were randomly enrolled in two arms of a randomized, triple‐blind, placebo‐controlled, clinical trial. The patients were treated by black seed capsules (500 mg) or placebo two times per day for 10 weeks. Patients were assessed in terms of size of renal stones by using sonography before and after intervention. In the black seed group, 44.4% of patients excreted their stones completely, and the size of the stones remained unchanged and decreased in 3.7% and 51.8% of patients, respectively. In contrast, in the placebo group, 15.3% of the patients excreted their stones completely, 11.5% had reduction in stone size, 15.3% had increase in stone size, and 57.6% had no change in their stone size. The difference in the mean size of renal stones after the study was significant between the two groups (p < 0.05). N. sativa L., as compared with placebo, is demonstrated to have significant positive effects on disappearance or reduction of size of kidney stones. 相似文献
