The aim of this study was to examine the traumatic mental growth and psychological resilience status of females who were receiving inpatient treatment at a district mental health hospital and had a history of being subjected to violence. One hundred-twenty female patients with a history of exposure to violence participated in the study. An introductory information form, the Traumatic Growth Inventory (TGI) and the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults (PRSA) were used for data collection. This study found that all the participants were subjected to emotional violence, 65.8% to physical violence, 30.8% to sexual violence, and 94.2% to verbal violence at some point in their lives. Their TGI mean score (60.96?±?11.91) was above average, while their PRSA mean score (97.90?±?9.18) was below average. The participants' mean scores on the TGI and PRSA did not vary significantly by the type of violence (p?>?0.05) to which the women were exposed. Moreover, no statistically significant relationship was found between the TGI and the PRSA total scale and subscale mean scores (p?>?0.05). This study found that the posttraumatic growth of females who had a history of physical or emotional or sexual abuse was positive, and that their psychological resilience levels were inadequate.  相似文献

The use of immediate on-site evaluation of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) specimens can determine the adequacy of specimens and provides a specific preliminary diagnosis. In this prospective study, we evaluated the impact of on-site assessment of thyroid FNAB performed under ultrasound guidance. Totally, 204 (170 female, 34 male) patients (102 on site, 102 control group) were included. The patients were randomized on site and regular cytologic examination groups. Quick May-Grünwald Giemsa stain was used for on-site examination and FNA was continued until adequate aspirate for optimal cytological examination. Two (2.0 %) of the 102 patients evaluated with on-site examination had a nondiagnostic result. However, 16 (15.7 %) of the 102 patients examined by regular cytologic examination method, had nondiagnostic result. The difference between these two groups was statistically significant (p?<?0.0001). The major cause of a nondiagnostic thyroid FNAB specimen is the failure to aspirate a sufficient number of cells necessary for diagnosis cystic lesions. Immediate on-site evaluation can significantly decrease the nondiagnostic rate of thyroid FNAB specimens.  相似文献

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs, 19-24 nucleotides in length, that regulate gene expression and are expressed aberrantly in most types of cancer. MiRNAs also have been detected in the blood of cancer patients and can serve as circulating biomarkers. It has been shown that secreted miRNAs within exosomes can be transferred from cell to cell and can regulate gene expression in the receiving cells by canonical binding to their target messenger RNAs. Here we show that tumor-secreted miR-21 and miR-29a also can function by another mechanism, by binding as ligands to receptors of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family, murine TLR7 and human TLR8, in immune cells, triggering a TLR-mediated prometastatic inflammatory response that ultimately may lead to tumor growth and metastasis. Thus, by acting as paracrine agonists of TLRs, secreted miRNAs are key regulators of the tumor microenvironment. This mechanism of action of miRNAs is implicated in tumor-immune system communication and is important in tumor growth and spread, thus representing a possible target for cancer treatment.  相似文献

A series of novel phloroglucinol derivatives were designed, synthesized, characterized spectroscopically and tested for their inhibitory activity against selected metabolic enzymes, including α‐glycosidase, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and human carbonic anhydrase I and II (hCA I and II). These compounds displayed nanomolar inhibition levels and showed Ki values of 1.14–3.92 nM against AChE, 0.24–1.64 nM against BChE, 6.73–51.10 nM against α‐glycosidase, 1.80–5.10 nM against hCA I, and 1.14–5.45 nM against hCA II.

Context: Scorzonera L. species (Asteraceae) are edible and as medicinal plants are used for various purposed in folk medicine.

Objective: The methanol extracts of the aerial parts and roots from 27 Scorzonera taxa were investigated for their possible neurobiological effects.

Materials and methods: Inhibitory potential of the Scorzonera species was tested against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and tyrosinase (TYRO) at 100?µg?mL?1 using ELISA microtiter assay. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was tested with radical scavenging activity, metal-chelation capacity, ferric- (FRAP), and phosphomolibdenum-reducing antioxidant power (PRAP) assays. Chlorogenic acid, hyperoside, rutin, and scorzotomentosin-4-O-β-glucoside were also screened in the same manner. Total phenol and flavonoid quantification in the extracts were determined spectrophotometrically.

Results: The aerial parts of Scorzonera pisidica (40.25?±?0.74%) and chlorogenic acid (46.97?±?0.82%) displayed the highest TYRO inhibition, while the remaining samples showed only trivial inhibition against cholinesterases (2.08?±?1.35%–25.32?±?1.37%). The same extract of S. pisidica was revealed to be the most potent in scavenging of all three radicals and FRAP assay.

Discussion and conclusion: Out of 27 taxa, S. pisidica, in particular, may deserve further investigation for its neuroprotective potential.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Renal replacement therapy is of vital importance in the treatment of crush syndrome victims, who are frequently encountered after catastrophic earthquakes. The Marmara earthquake, which struck Northwestern Turkey in August 1999, was characterized by 477 victims who needed dialysis. METHOD: Within the first week of the disaster, questionnaires containing 63 clinical and laboratory variables were sent to 35 reference hospitals that treated the victims. Information considering the features of dialyses obtained through these questionnaires was submitted to analysis. RESULTS: Overall, 639 casualties with renal complications were registered, 477 of whom (mean age 32.3 +/- 13.7 years, 269 male) needed dialysis. Among these, 452 were treated by a single dialysis modality (437 intermittent hemodialysis, 11 continuous renal replacement therapy and 4 peritoneal dialysis), while 25 victims needed more than one type of dialysis. In total, 5137 hemodialysis sessions were performed (mean 11.1 +/- 8.0 sessions per patient) and mean duration of hemodialysis support was 13.4 +/- 9.0 days; this duration was shorter in the non-survivors (7.0 +/- 8.7 vs. 10.0 +/- 9.8 days, P = 0.005). Thirty-four victims who underwent continuous renal replacement therapy had higher mortality rates (41.2 vs. 13.7%, P < 0.0001). Only eight victims were treated by peritoneal dialysis, four of whom also required hemodialysis or continuous renal replacement therapy. The mortality rate in the dialyzed victims was 17.2%, a significantly higher figure compared to the mortality rate of the non-dialyzed patients with renal problems (9.3%; P = 0.015). CONCLUSION: Substantial amounts of dialysis support may be necessary for treating the victims of mass disasters complicated with crush syndrome. Dialyzed patients are characterized by higher rates of morbidity and mortality.  相似文献

Bone healing regulated by nitric oxide: an experimental study in rats   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12  
Nitric oxide has many functions in wound healing and metabolism of bone. In the current study the role of nitric oxide on bone healing was investigated. Thirty-six young adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: control, nitroso-bovine serum albumin, and aminoguanidine. Five millimeter segmental defects were created in the middle of the right femora. A polyethylene plate and screw posts were used for rigid fixation. Demineralized bone matrix served as the graft material in all groups. Nitroso-bovine serum albumin (an active nitric oxide congener) carried by demineralized bone matrix was applied locally at the defect in the nitroso-bovine serum albumin group. Aminoguanidine (an inducible nitric oxide synthase inhibitor) group received oral aminoguanidine treatment. Formation and healing of bone were determined by radiographic and histologic analyses. In comparison to the control group the healing rate was faster in both experimental groups as indicated by radiographic and histologic data. If accompanied by bone graft with a suitable delivery system, nitric oxide may be useful as a therapeutic adjuvant in clinical situations when local formation of bone is needed. Moreover, when combined appropriately, treatment with orthotopic nitric oxide supplementation and systemic inducible nitric oxide synthase inhibition may enhance bone healing.  相似文献

Deep-seated cavernoma or cavernous angioma is a very rare clinical entity, as is basal ganglia cavernoma presenting with Parkinsonism. The authors demonstrate a 56-year-old man with a cavernoma located in basal ganglion, who subsequently developed Parkinsonism. The patient refused the surgical intervention, and received L-dopa trial; however, no change in the tremor and bradykinesia was observed in spite of high doses of L-dopa. Our case indicates that chronic compression and continuous hemorrhage could cause Parkinsonism, which is uncommon symptom of cavernous angioma.  相似文献
