Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) methods are not sufficiently reliable in renal transplant recipients (RTR) and should be replaced by iohexol plasma clearance measurement. However, this method has poor availability in health centers. The aim of our study was to develop a high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for plasma iohexol measurement in routine practice and to evaluate its plasma clearance as a reference of GFR. We developed an HPLC method using UV detection. We evaluated sample storage conditions to provide recommendations for routine practice. Then, we compared GFRbased on plasma iohexol clearance (GFR‐iohexol) to eGFR using modification of diet in renal disease, Cockcroft and Gault, and CDK‐EPIequations in 40 RTR. The method was validated over a concentration range of 15–300 μg/l. Excellent linearity (r > 0.998), inter‐ and intraday precision (CV < 3.3%), and accuracy (>96.8%) were complied with ICH guidelines. We also demonstrated excellent samples stability (9 days). Although eGFR methods are not references in RTR, we found a correct concordance between eGFR and GFR‐iohexol in our population. To conclude, our method is simple, rapid, accurate, and reliable for routine clinical and research use especially in RTR. J. Clin. Lab. Anal. 26:376‐383, 2012. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

ObjectivesTo develop an international consensus on managing penile cancer patients during the COVID-19 acute waves. A major concern for patients with penile cancer during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is how the enforced safety measures will affect their disease management. Delays in diagnosis and treatment initiation may have an impact on the extent of the primary lesion as well as the cancer-specific survival because of the development and progression of inguinal lymph node metastases.Materials and methodsA review of the COVID-19 literature was conducted in conjunction with analysis of current international guidelines on the management of penile cancer. Results were presented to an international panel of experts on penile cancer and infection control by a virtual accelerated Delphi process using 4 survey rounds. Consensus opinion was defined as an agreement of ≥80%, which was used to reconfigure management pathways for penile cancer.ResultsLimited evidence is available for delaying penile cancer management. The consensus rate of agreement was 100% that penile cancer pathways should be reconfigured, and measures should be developed to prevent perioperative nosocomial transmission of COVID-19. The panel also reached a consensus on several statements aimed at reconfiguring the management of penile cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.ConclusionsThe international consensus panel proposed a framework for the diagnostic and invasive therapeutic procedures for penile cancer within a low-risk environment for COVID-19.  相似文献

Objectives:

To describe the characteristics and prevalence of non-syndromic orofacial clefting (NSOFC) and assess the effects of parental consanguinity on NSOFC phenotypes in the 3 main cities of Saudi Arabia.

Methods:

All infants (114,035) born at 3 referral centers in Riyadh, and 6 hospitals in Jeddah and Madinah between January 2010 and December 2011 were screened. The NSOFC cases (n=133) were identified and data was collected through clinical examination and records, and information on consanguinity through parent interviews. The diagnosis was confirmed by reviewing medical records and contacting the infants’ pediatricians. Control infants (n=233) matched for gender and born in the same hospitals during the same period, were selected.

Results:

The prevalence of NSOFC was 1.07/1000 births in Riyadh, and 1.17/1000 births overall; cleft lip (CL) was 0.47/1000 births, cleft lip and palate (CLP) was 0.42/1000 births, and cleft palate (CP) was 0.28/1000 births. Cleft palate was significantly associated with consanguinity (p=0.047, odds ratio: 2.5, 95% confidence interval: 1 to 6.46), particularly for first cousin marriages.

Conclusion:

The birth prevalence of NSOFC in Riyadh alone, and in the 3 main cities of Saudi Arabia were marginally lower than the mean global prevalence. While birth prevalence for CLP was comparable to global figures, the CL:CLP ratio was high, and only CP was significantly associated with consanguinity.Non-syndromic orofacial clefting (NSOFC), including isolated cleft lip (CL), cleft lip and palate (CLP), and isolated cleft palate (CP), is the most common craniofacial defect worldwide with an estimated mean global prevalence of 1.25/1000 live births.1 However, the prevalence of NSOFC varies geographically and across different ethnic groups.2 Although the ethnicity of the Middle East is considered Caucasian,3,4 geographically it is located between 3 continents (Asia, Africa, and Europe), which makes it unique and, in reality, a mixture of 3 ethnicities. A small number of studies have measured the prevalence of NSOFC in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries with the reported prevalence ranging from 0.3 to 2.19/1000 births,5-9 and a mean value for all studies of 1.25/1000 births.10 In addition, consanguineous relationships have been suggested to increase the prevalence of congenital anomalies.11 These were also reported to be associated with NSOFC in a meta-analysis carried out on 16 studies that assessed the relationship between NSOFC and paternal consanguinity.12 Saudi Arabia, one of the largest countries in the Middle East, has a high rate of consanguineous marriage that varies between regions.13 Riyadh, which is the capital city of Saudi Arabia with a population of approximately 7.5 million and birth prevalence of 38,000/year,14,15 has a consanguinity marriages prevalence of 60%.16 The aims of this study were to 1) describe the characteristics and prevalence of NSOFC (CL, CLP, and CP) in Riyadh (the capital city in the central region of Saudi Arabia), 2) describe the prevalence of NSOFC phenotypes, and 3) the relationship between these and consanguinity in Saudi Arabia.  相似文献

The dielectrophoresis (DEP) method is used to fabricate sensor devices by assembling and aligning carbon nanotubes (CNTs) across electrode structures. The challenges of the method increase as the gap width between the electrodes increases. In this work, a novel DEP setup is proposed to reduce the resistance mismatch in manufacturing carbon nanotube-based sensors. The proposed setup utilizes hot airflow and thermal annealing to fabricate long-aligned multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) bridges across transparent electrodes with a gap width up to 75 μm. The best alignment results were obtained at airflow velocities between 1.5 m s−1 and 2.5 m s−1. The minimum variation in the resistance of the aligned bridges was 1.81% observed at a MWCNT concentration of 0.005 wt% and deposition time of 10 min. Long MWCNT bridges have many contact points that link MWCNTs to each other, making the contact resistance a robust indicator of the variation in the ambient temperature. The characteristics of the MWCNT bridges as a temperature sensor, including the response, sensitivity, and recovery, were investigated.

Boron nitride (BN) nanomaterials are rapidly being investigated for potential applications in biomedical sciences due to their exceptional physico-chemical characteristics. However, their safe use demands a thorough understanding of their possible environmental and toxicological effects. The cytotoxicity of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) was explored to see if they could be used in living cell imaging. It was observed that the cytotoxicity of BNNTs is higher in cancer cells (65 and 80%) than in normal cell lines (40 and 60%) for 24 h and 48 h respectively. The influence of multiple experimental parameters such as pH, time, amount of catalyst, and initial dye concentration on percentage degradation efficiency was also examined for both catalyst and dye. The degradation effectiveness decreases (92 to 25%) as the original concentration of dye increases (5–50 ppm) due to a decrease in the availability of adsorption sites. Similarly, the degradation efficiency improves up to 90% as the concentration of catalyst increases (0.01–0.05 g) due to an increase in the adsorption sites. The influence of pH was also investigated, the highest degradation efficiency for MO dye was observed at pH 4. Our results show that lower concentrations of BNNTs can be employed in biomedical applications. Dye degradation properties of BNNTs suggest that it can be a potential candidate as a wastewater and air treatment material.
