In a simulated field trial Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis (BTI) pellet formulation exhibited an enhanced efficacy with increasing dose. A dosage of 1.0 and 1.5 ppm was most effective under simulated field conditions. Confluent cultures of endothelial cells from human umbilical cord were used to study the effect of activated human protein C (APC) on the production of plasminogen activators, plasminogen activator-inhibitor, and factor VIII-related antigen. Addition of APC to the cells in a serum-free medium did not affect the production of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) or factor VIII-related antigen; under all measured conditions, no urokinase activity was found. However, less plasminogen activator-inhibitor activity accumulated in the conditioned medium in the presence of APC. This decrease was dose dependent and could be prevented by specific anti-protein C antibodies. No decrease was observed with the zymogen protein C or with diisopropylfluorophosphate-inactivated APC. APC also decreased the t-PA inhibitor activity in endothelial cell-conditioned medium in the absence of cells, which suggests that the effect of APC is at least partly due to a direct effect of APC on the plasminogen activator- inhibitor. High concentrations of thrombin-but not of factor Xa or IXa-- had a similar effect on the t-PA inhibitor activity. The effect of APC on the plasminogen activator-inhibitor provides a new mechanism by which APC may enhance fibrinolysis. The data suggest that activation of the coagulation system may lead to a secondary increase of the fibrinolytic activity by changing the balance between plasminogen activator(s) and its (their) fast-acting inhibitor. 相似文献

PURPOSE: To compare conventional ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with contrast agent-enhanced US for detection of VX-2 liver tumors in rabbits. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Conventional gray-scale liver US was performed in 65 rabbits, 38 of which had VX-2 hepatic tumor implants. Twenty minutes after contrast agent injection, gray-scale pulse-inversion harmonic US images of the liver-specific phase were obtained. Following sacrifice of the animals, T1- and T2-weighted MR imaging was performed at 4-mm intervals. Pathologic analysis was performed as the reference standard. The capability of each imaging modality to correctly depict tumor presence or absence and the number of tumors was compared. RESULTS: Conventional US correctly depicted the presence or absence of tumors in 54 rabbits, for an accuracy of 83%, sensitivity of 71%, and specificity of 100%. With contrast-enhanced US, accuracy increased to 92% (60 correct cases); sensitivity, to 87%; and specificity, to 100%. MR imaging facilitated 56 correct diagnoses, for an accuracy of 86%, sensitivity of 82%, and specificity of 93%. There was a marginally significant difference between US with and US without contrast agent (P =.07) but not between MR imaging and contrast-enhanced US (P > or = .34). When the numbers of correctly detected tumors were compared, contrast-enhanced US performed significantly better than MR imaging (P =.02) and conventional US (P =.04). CONCLUSION: There was no significant difference between contrast-enhanced US and MR imaging in the detection of hepatic tumors, whereas contrast-enhanced US had the highest accuracy (92%) of the three modalities studied. 相似文献

Conventional (mean Doppler frequency shift) color Doppler imaging and a new method of displaying blood flow in color that uses the amplitude of the Doppler signal were utilized to evaluate three vascular sonographic contrast agents. To compare the two color flow detection modalities, a total of 20 pairs of contrast agent injections were performed while imaging a variety of abdominal organs and tumors in experimental animal models. The 20 paired injections were scored independently to indicate whether color amplitude imaging better demonstrated the effects of contrast enhancement (n = 14), both techniques were equivalent in demonstrating the effects of contrast enhancement (n = 4), or color Doppler imaging better demonstrated the effects of contrast enhancement (n = 2). These results indicate that compared to color Doppler imaging, color amplitude imaging improved visualization of both normal and abnormal blood flow in 70% of these cases (P < 0.0001). Specifically, with contrast enhancement of the Doppler signals, organ vascularity and regional differences in parenchymal blood flow were better demonstrated with color amplitude imaging than with color Doppler imaging. In addition, since color amplitude imaging is nondirectional and less angle dependent than color Doppler imaging, it was possible to visualize vessel continuity more completely and to demonstrate vessel branching more clearly with this modality. However, owing to the lack of directivity and poor temporal resolution, information obtained with color amplitude imaging appears to be complementary to that of color Doppler imaging. In conclusion, color amplitude imaging is a reliable method of determining the effectiveness of vascular sonographic contrast agents and should be considered one of the primary flow imaging modalities used for the assessment of these agents. 相似文献

Surveillance of Scrub Typhus in the fringe areas around Pune : Potential for Transmission does exist

A field based epidemiological study was undertaken to assess the potential of transmission of scrub typhus in the sylvatic and transitional (fringe) areas at ten different locations around Pune. Parameters studied included rodent trapping and identification, entomological parameters, immunological studies on rodent sera, and rodent organ impression smears. The study revealed that Rattus r rufescence, Rattus meltada, Suncus murinus and Rattus blanfordi were the predominant sylvatic rodent species. All the species showed mild to moderate infestation with trombiculid mite larvae, with Rr rufescence and S murinus showing even higher levels of infestation. Pooled rodent sera showed mild rise of OX2 in 13.9%, OX19 in 5.6% and OXK in 9.8% of the pooled sera. The rise in titres was appreciable among rodents from Lonavala, Khadakvasla, Panchet, Singhgadh and Kondhwa areas. Based on the findings of the study, certain recommendations on prevention, surveillance and epidemic investigations of scrub typhus in the Armed Forces have been submitted.Key Words: Mite, Rodent, Scrub typhus, Weil-Felix 相似文献

This study was designed to test the effectiveness of the ipsilateral acoustic reflex thresholds measured with low and high frequency probes in predicting the maximum comfortable loudness levels (MaxCLs) in hearing-impaired subjects using recently available sophisticated procedures for acoustic reflex and loudness measures. Loudness growth functions were measured in hearing-impaired subjects at .5, 1 and 2 kHz using a computerized procedure. The maximum level among those sound pressure levels judged as 'comfortable' was designated as the MaxCL. Acoustic reflex thresholds were measured for .5, 1 and 2 kHz activator signals using 226, 678 and 1000 Hz probes. Regression analyses suggested that acoustic reflex thresholds recorded with the 678 and 1000 Hz probes could provide an objective estimate of the MaxCLs for 1 and 2 kHz. Thus, acoustic reflex thresholds may be useful in fitting hearing aids for those subjects in whom reliable measures of MaxCLs cannot be obtained. 相似文献

Twenty-five patients who had lymphoceles underwent sectional imaging and interventional radiologic procedures. Viewed using sonography, lymphoceles were hypoechoic to anechoic, occasionally with internal septa and debris. Low numbers (occasionally negative values) were observed using computed tomography (CT); these numbers strongly suggest the diagnosis of lymphocele. Calcification was observed on CT images of one patient. Diagnostic aspiration revealed tan to yellow fluid containing many lymphocytes; pathognomonic fat globules were observed in four cases. Malignant cells were found in two collections, an unusual occurrence. Therapeutic needle aspiration and short-term catheter drainage were usually unsuccessful (only one of five patients [20%] was cured). Long-term (1-5-week) catheter drainage cured 11 of 14 patients (78.6%). Sclerosing agents may have been beneficial for lymphocele obliteration in three of four patients. For most patients, lymphoceles may be diagnosed and treated successfully using radiologic means. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a contrast agent enhances sonographic detection of bleeding sites in the abdomen and whether contrast-enhanced three-dimensional sonography provides additional information compared with contrast-enhanced two-dimensional sonography. METHODS: Bleeding sites were created within the livers (n = 3), spleens (n = 5), and kidneys (n = 3) of 3 dogs. A sonographic contrast agent with vascular and parenchymal enhancement capabilities was administered intravenously at a dose of 0.02 mL/kg. Before and after each contrast agent injection, the bleeding sites were imaged with two- and three-dimensional sonography in gray scale harmonic imaging and color flow modes. Sonographic findings were compared with gross pathologic findings. RESULTS: Noncontrast-enhanced sonography was not able to show the specific location of the active bleeding in any of the organs evaluated. The contrast agent enhanced the sonographic detection of blood flow in normal vessels and extravasated blood from damaged vessels or organs in all cases. Intrasplenic and intrahepatic hematomas were better identified on delayed imaging sequences because there was marked enhancement of the normal parenchyma, whereas the hematomas remained unenhanced. Reconstructed three-dimensional sonography showed spatial relationships of the bleeding sites and surrounding structures. Gross pathologic findings were consistent with the contrast-enhanced sonographic results. CONCLUSIONS: Contrast-enhanced sonography improves the detection and evaluation of abdominal bleeding sites. Contrast-enhanced three-dimensional sonography appears to provide additional information when compared with two-dimensional sonography. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To study the use of power Doppler sonography for assessing changes in vascularity during treatment of fracture sites with low-intensity ultrasound. METHODS: In 6 dogs (3 pairs), subcutaneous dissection of the midshaft of the ulna allowed symmetrical osteotomies to be made with a reciprocation saw. Three dogs were treated and 3 were used as controls. The fracture site was subjected to 1.5-MHz low-intensity ultrasound (30 mW/cm2) for 20 minutes daily from a therapeutic ultrasonic device. Gray scale sonography was performed to evaluate the fracture site. Power Doppler sonography was used to assess flow patterns at the fracture site and surrounding soft tissue. A sonographic contrast agent was administered intravenously. The dose was 0.2 mL/kg. RESULTS: Power Doppler sonography showed an increase in flow around the fracture site in the treated dogs compared with that in control dogs. Color pixel values on day 7 were 3-fold higher in treated legs than control legs and on day 11 were 33% higher in treated legs than control legs. Enhancement after contrast agent administration was consistently higher in treated legs than control legs. CONCLUSIONS: Power Doppler sonography showed increased vascularity around the fracture sites in treated dogs with and without contrast agent administration. 相似文献
