Summary Earlier findings have suggested that abnormal clumsiness in children is associated with a perceptual defect in the kinaesthetic modality, and with a defect of the translation between stimulus and response. In this experiment, perception was investigated by manipulating the requirement to discriminate between kinaesthetic stimuli, and the translation process by manipulating stimulus-response compatibility. Consistent with earlier findings, the kinaesthetic reaction time of clumsy children was found to be longer than that of controls; but, although the requirement to discriminate between stimuli and incompatibility both lengthened reaction times, the increases were similar for clumsy and control groups. It is suggested that these negative findings may be attributable to a practice effect in the former, and to inadequate loading on the translation process in the latter. However, it is also suggested that the findings may indicate that clumsiness is associated with a defect in the cross-modal translation of information.  相似文献

In 1999, ISPOR formed the Quality of Life Special Interest group (QoL-SIG)--Translation and Cultural Adaptation group (TCA group) to stimulate discussion on and create guidelines and standards for the translation and cultural adaptation of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures. After identifying a general lack of consistency in current methods and published guidelines, the TCA group saw a need to develop a holistic perspective that synthesized the full spectrum of published methods. This process resulted in the development of Translation and Cultural Adaptation of Patient Reported Outcomes Measures--Principles of Good Practice (PGP), a report on current methods, and an appraisal of their strengths and weaknesses. The TCA Group undertook a review of evidence from current practice, a review of the literature and existing guidelines, and consideration of the issues facing the pharmaceutical industry, regulators, and the broader outcomes research community. Each approach to translation and cultural adaptation was considered systematically in terms of rationale, components, key actors, and the potential benefits and risks associated with each approach and step. The results of this review were subjected to discussion and challenge within the TCA group, as well as consultation with the outcomes research community at large. Through this review, a consensus emerged on a broad approach, along with a detailed critique of the strengths and weaknesses of the differing methodologies. The results of this review are set out as "Translation and Cultural Adaptation of Patient Reported Outcomes Measures--Principles of Good Practice" and are reported in this document.  相似文献

Expression of dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP1) in nonmineralized tissues   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP1) is an Arg-Gly-Asp-containing acidic phosphoprotein that was originally identified from a rat incisor cDNA library and was thought to be a dentin-specific protein. DMP1 was later shown to express in a number of hard tissue-forming cells, including osteoblasts, osteocytes, ameloblasts, and cementoblasts, and was considered to play important roles in mineralization. Further, DMP1 gene expression was also detected in fetal bovine brain and in newborn mouse brain. These findings indicate the possibility of DMP1 expression in other soft tissues. In the present study, to clarify the significance of DMP1 expression in nonmineralized tissues, we made a specific antibody to mouse DMP1 peptides and demonstrated that DMP1 protein was localized in mouse brain, pancreas, and kidney by immunohistochemistry. Further DMP1 mRNA was detected in nonmineralized mouse tissues including liver, muscle, brain, pancreas, and kidney by RT-PCR. Based on the evidence that the localization and the expression of DMP1 are not restricted to mineralized tissues, we assume that DMP1 may have functions other than the regulation of mineralization.  相似文献

The primary purpose of this research project was to translate and adapt the School Function Assessment (SFA), a standardized criterion-referenced instrument that measures school-related functional skills, for its cross-cultural use in Taiwan. The project consisted of four study phases: translation, cultural adaptation, pilot testing, and field testing for standardization. A series of rigorous procedures including the method of translation and back-translation, team consensus for cultural adaptation, and Rasch modelling techniques were used to address various dimensions of cross-cultural equivalence and psychometric properties of the translated SFA. The protocols that were developed as well as technical issues that were addressed in this project provide useful guidelines for international occupational therapists who are interested in translating and adapting instruments for cross-cultural use.  相似文献

Human S15a expression is upregulated by hepatitis B virus X protein   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
The hepatitis B virus (HBV)-encoded X antigen (HBxAg) may contribute to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through the upregulated expression of selected cellular genes. To identify these genes, RNAs isolated from HBxAg-positive and -negative HepG2 cells were compared by PCR select cDNA subtraction. One gene overexpressed in HBxAg-positive cells by Northern and Western blotting is the ribosomal protein S15a. The S15a mRNA is 535 base pairs, encoding a protein 130 amino acids long with a molecular weight of 14.3 kDa. S15a expression was upregulated in HBV-infected livers, where it costained with HBxAg. Overexpression of S15a stimulated cell growth, colony formation in soft agar, and tumor formation in SCID mice. Hence, HBxAg upregulated the expression of S15a, the latter of which participates in the development of HCC, perhaps by altering the integrity of translation.  相似文献

1. Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) of the heart is an adaptive response to sustained increases in blood pressure and hormone imbalances. Left ventricular hypertrophy is associated with programmed responses at the molecular and biochemical level in different subsets of cardiac cells, including the cardiac muscle cells (cardiomyocytes), fibroblasts, conductive tissue and coronary vasculature. 2. Regardless of the initiating cause, the actual increase in chamber enlargement is, in each case, due to an increase in size of a pre-existing cardiomyocyte population, with little or no change in their number; a process referred to as cellular hypertrophy. 3. An accelerated rate of global protein synthesis is the primary mechanism by which protein accumulation increases during cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. In turn, increased rates of synthesis are a result of increased translational rates of existing ribosomes (translational efficiency) and/or synthesis and recruitment of additional ribosomes (translational capacity). 4. The present review examines the relative importance of translational capacity and translational efficiency in the response of myocytes to acute and chronic demands for increased protein synthesis and the role of these mechanisms in the development of LVH.  相似文献

We have developed and tested an Italian version of the Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) questionnaire, an established instrument for assessing headache-related disability. A multistep process was used to translate and adapt the questionnaire into Italian, which was then tested on 109 Italian migraine without aura patients, 86 (78.9%) of whom completed the form a second time 21 days later. Overall MIDAS score had good test-retest reliability (Spearman's correlation 0.77), closely similar to that found in English-speaking migraineurs, and individual responses were also satisfactorily reliable. Internal consistency was good (Cronbach's alpha 0.7). These findings support the use of the MIDAS questionnaire as a clinical and research tool with Italian patients.  相似文献
