ObjectivesPrevious results from our laboratory suggest that band flossing results in increased ankle range of motion (ROM) and jump performance 5-min following application. However, the time-course of such benefits is yet to be examined.DesignParallel group design.SettingUniversity laboratory.Participants69 recreational athletes (32 male/37 female).Main outcome measuresParticipants performed a weight-bearing lunge test (WBLT), a counter-movement jump (CMJ) and a 15 m sprint test (SPRINT) pre and up to 45-min post application of a floss band to both ankles (FLOSS) or without flossing of the ankle joints (CON).ResultsThere was a significant intervention × time interaction in favour of FLOSS when compared to CON for the WBLT (p < 0.05). These results were associated with trivial to small effect sizes at all time points. Small, but non-significant (p > 0.05) benefits were seen for FLOSS when compared to CON for CMJ force (mean ± 90%CI: 89 ± 101 N) and 15 m SPRINT times (−0.06 ± 0.04 s) at 45-min post.ConclusionThere is a trend towards a benefit for the use of floss bands applied to the ankle joint to improve ROM, jump and sprint performance in recreational athletes for up to 45-min following their application. 相似文献

Recent reports suggest the relationship of short-term blood pressure (BP) variability to cardiovascular target organ damage. In this study, short-term BP variability was assessed as the standard deviation of daytime and nighttime BP in 36 hospitalized patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) who underwent ambulatory BP monitoring. Positive correlations were observed between body mass index (BMI) and daytime systolic and diastolic BP variability, BMI and nighttime diastolic BP variability, cholesterol and daytime systolic BP variability, cholesterol and nighttime systolic and diastolic BP variability, nocturnal decline in BP and nighttime diastolic BP variability, and plasma concentration of norepinephrine (p-NE) and nighttime systolic BP variability. In multivariate linear regression analyses, BMI showed the strongest association with daytime and nighttime diastolic BP variability (p < .005 and p < .05). On the other hand, cholesterol and p-NE were the primary determinants of daytime and nighttime systolic BP variability, respectively (p < .01 and p < .0005). Interestingly, CRF patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD) had significantly increased daytime systolic and diastolic BP variability and nighttime systolic BP variability (p < .05 or less). Furthermore, logistic regression analysis demonstrated that nighttime systolic BP variability was an independent risk factor of IHD in patients with CRF (odds ratio 1.50 [95% confidence interval 1.01 to 2.25]; p < .05). Taken together, short-term BP variability is suggested to be affected by BMI, cholesterol, and p-NE in CRF patients. BACKGROUND: Although several shortterm animal models of stunning and hibernation have been studied extensively, it has been difficult to produce a consistent animal model of chronic hibernation. The aim of the present study was to develop a nonsurgical porcine stent model of coronary stenosis in order to investigate the relationship between chronic dysfunctional myocardium and viability using 2D-echo, dobutamine stress echo (DSE) and positron emission tomography (PET). METHODS AND RESULTS: Focal progressive coronary stenosis was induced by implantation of an oversized stent in the left anterior descending (LAD) and/or circumflex (LCX) coronary artery in a total of 115 pigs, according to various experimental protocols: copper stent in the LAD (group I, n = 5); noncoated stainless steel stent in the LAD combined with balloon overstretch (group II, n = 7); poly(organo)phosphazene-coated stent in the LAD (group III, n = 77); and poly(organo)phosphazene-coated stent in both the LAD and the LCX (group IV, n = 26). Occurrence of left ventricular dysfunction was evaluated weekly by 2D-echo. At the time of left ventricular dysfunction the presence of viable myocardium within the dysfunctional region was investigated with DSE and PET, and confirmed by histology. The degree of coronary artery stenosis was measured by quantitative coronary angiography and morphometry. Severe coronary artery stenosis in the presence of dysfunctional, but viable, myocardium was induced in groups III and IV (47% and 11% of the animals, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The authors developed a nonsurgical porcine stent model of progressive coronary stenosis using an oversized polymer-coated stent resulting in chronically decreased myocardial function, with residual inotropic reserve and viable myocardium. This condition may arise from repetitive periods of ischemia, or from sustained hypoperfusion, or a combination of these processes eventually leading to myocardial hibernation. 目的观察中西医结合治疗缺血性脑血管病疗效。方法收集我院就诊的50例缺血性脑血管病患者资料为对象进行研究,全部患者采用中西医结合的方法进行治疗,西医主要是降纤、抗凝、抗血小板等治疗,中医主要是在西医治疗的基础上加以中药,补气行血、化瘀通络。选择头部的穴位来醒脑开窍、补髓填精;在肢体上选择的穴位必须以手足阳明经为主要的穴位,可以达到活血化瘀、疏经通络的效果。结果中西医结合改善脑部循环,恢复肌体功能,总有效率达到90%。结论中西医结合治疗缺血性脑血管病效果显著,值得推广。 相似文献

The differentiation between osteomyelitis and bone tumor may be difficult due to their overlapping clinical and radiological features. A 25-year-old lady presented with left knee pain and joint effusion associated with redness and hotness. A sub-optimally taken plain radiograph showed mixed osteolytic and osteoblastic lesion in the left lower femur with surrounding soft tissue swelling. Since the clinical diagnosis was acute osteomyelitis and arthritis, arthroscopic lavage was performed as a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. The removed loose bodies and fibrinous tissue showed pathological features suspicious of chondrosarcoma. Subsequent MRI revealed an infiltrative tumor eroding through the cortex and joint cartilage. En bloc excision of the left lower femur, upper tibia including the knee joint and patella was performed, and the final diagnosis was grade 2 chondrosarcoma. The patient developed bilateral pulmonary metastasis 33 months after operation. Five months later, she suffered from a hitherto undescribed complication of ischemic perforation of the terminal ileum secondary to tumor embolic arterial obstruction with no macroscopic intestinal or peritoneal tumor deposit. The patient developed multiple brain metastases and died 43 months after initial presentation.Our case illustrates that malignant bone tumor as a differential diagnosis of acute osteomyelitis and arthritis merits recognition and exclusion before arthroscopic lavage, which may enhance tumor dissemination and in our patient results in embolic ischemic ileal perforation. 相似文献
