Studies using plaster models of teeth and photographs simulating the full range of occlusal conditions have found high agreement between measures of adolescent social acceptability of these conditions and perceived need for orthodontic treatment. This study examined the association between adolescents' acceptability of their own occlusal condition, severity of malocclusion, and likelihood of undergoing orthodontic treatment. The factors predicting the acceptability of occlusal condition of 13-yr-olds, as assessed by the SASOC scale, were measurements of acceptability of general physical appearance, and the severity of occlusal condition. Variability in SASOC scores appeared to be independent of gender, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity. Gender, and severity of occlusal condition were important differences between subjects who had received, planned, or were undergoing orthodontic treatment, and those who had not. Neither SASOC scores nor perceived need for treatment accounted for a significant proportion of the variance between these groups. Although adolescents seeking orthodontic treatment had a greater severity of malocclusion than those not, little difference was observed between these groups in acceptance of occlusal condition. 相似文献

This study examined the impact of implementing a rotating dissection schedule on the attitudes and performance of first-year dental students in the gross anatomy laboratory at the University of Kentucky. In 2002-2003, half of the students assigned to each cadaver dissected the assigned objectives during the first 90 min of the laboratory session. During the last 30 min, the non-dissecting group members came into the laboratory and had the day's dissection demonstrated and explained to them via peer instruction. Dissection responsibilities rotated with each laboratory session. Eighty-eight percent of student participants were satisfied with the rotating dissection approach according to a mid-term survey, and this satisfaction level remained unchanged at the end of the semester for most students. Students' perceptions of the quality of peer laboratory presentations varied, with only 44% rating them as good or better. Eighty percent of students perceived that rotating dissection did not impede their performance, and this was confirmed by analysis of grade data. Student satisfaction and the ability to devote additional weekly curriculum time to studying anatomy in a very compressed curriculum were the main student-described benefits. 相似文献

Summary: The Internet contains a vast amount of medically relevant information. In order to access this information, however, many networks require one to master applications written in UNIX, an operating system considered by many not to be user friendly. Although these tools may be available on the campus, it is difficult to teach their use unless there is some immediate benefit to the already busy user. From that standpoint, it is important for instructors to realize that common UNIX applications can be utilized as classroom tools to significantly enhance the learning experience by facilitating teacher/student communication. 目的:探讨尼莫地平对阿尔茨海默病(AD)大鼠脑组织一氧化氮(NO)、一氧化氮合酶(NOS)浓度及行为学改变的影响。方法:SD大鼠30只,随机分为空白对照组,AD模型组和尼莫地平组,采用大鼠脑组织立体定位微量注射技术,尼莫地平组和AD模型组用鹅膏蕈氨酸(IBO)1μl(5μg)损毁大鼠双侧迈内特基底核(nbM)建立AD动物模型,空白对照组以0.1mol/L pH7.4PB液代替IBO。尼莫地平组给予尼莫地平0.5mg/kg,空白对照组和AD模型组以生理盐水代替尼莫地平,连续灌胃60d,每d2次,每次2ml。做迷宫试验及跳台试验测学习记忆能力,然后将大鼠断头处死,分离海马及大脑皮质,分别检测NO,NOS含量。结果:AD模型组较空白对照组学习记忆能力显著降低,海马及大脑皮质NO,NOS含量显著升高,尼莫地平较AD模型组学习记忆能力显著升高,海马及大脑皮质NO、NOS含量显著降低。结论:用IBO损毁大鼠双侧nbM可建立AD动物模型,尼莫地平可显著改变AD模型大鼠的学习记忆能力,降低海马及大脑皮质NO、NOS含量。 相似文献
