Current trends in infant care: An Indian experience

The infant is the youngest but perhaps the most valuable member of society. It has been unequivocally established through research that the period up to two years is the most potent for forming and establishing the basis of later development. This paper summarizes the findings of two research studies on infant care in India that began in July 1988 and culminated in March 1989 under my guidance. The two studies are linked in their final implications for infant stimulation and in their role in providing insights into changing trends in infant-care in India.

In study I patterns of infant caregiving practiced by fathers were investigated. Study II looked into infant-care practices in Punjabi families where the grandmother lived with the young parents.     

红景天等药物对提高运动员耐力的研究

为探讨中草药恢复运动疲劳和提高运动员耐力的可能性，观察了红景天、万寿灵、鹿尾精和红景天复方对提高耐力项目运动员体能的影响。被试者为耐力项目男女运动员３０名，随机分成４组，分别服用红景天、万寿灵、鹿尾精和红景天复方，服药７５ｄ。服药前后运动员跑台做功至最大负荷量时，即刻采取静脉血、测血色素、肌酸磷酸激酶、总蛋白，结果表明：红景天和万寿灵确有适应原样性作用，能恢复运动疲劳和提高运动成绩。     

Sexual sequelae of antihypertensive drugs: Treatment effects on self-report and physiological measures in middle-aged male hypertensives

Antihypertensive drugs are commonly associated with adverse side effects in both clinical and laboratory studies. We investigated the sexual sequelae of several major classes of antihypertensive drugs (e.g., beta blockers, central alpha agonists, diuretics) in normal males and in hypertensive patients. We compared the effects of four widely used agents (methyldopa, propranolol, atenolol, hydrochlorothiazide-triamterene) and placebo, in a selected sample of 21 sexually dysfunctional male hypertensives, 13 of whom completed all five phases of the study. Each study drug was administered for a 1-month treatment period, followed by a 2-week, single-blind washout phase, according to a randomized, Latin square crossover design. Dependent variables for the study included a broad range of hormonal, NPT, and self-report measures of sexual response. Results indicated a lack of consistent drug effects on measures of sexual response, although more frequent sexual and nonsexual side effects were observed with methyldopa and propranolol. As in our previous studies, age was negatively correlated with both hormonal and NPT measures, whereas changes in blood pressure were not significantly related to sexual function scores. Results do not support the hypothesis that sexually dysfunctional males are at greater risk for adverse sexual sequelae when treated with centrally active agents or diuretics.     

中西医结合治疗坏死性筋膜炎

本文积累了１９８１～１９９４年近十余年的临床资料，总结了中西医结合治疗坏死性筋膜炎的临床治疗经验。指出坏死性筋膜炎是一种少见的严重的软组织感染，发展迅速，病死率高，应引起临床医生的高度警惕，做出早期诊断是非常必要的。提出了扶正祛邪的中西医结合的整体治疗方案，全身治疗与局部处理相结合。对患处要采取早期，这时的多切口引流，给＂邪＂以出路。取得良好的疗效。     

取代四氢异喹啉衍生物的合成及其生物活性

粉防己碱有钙拮抗作用,临床试用于治疗高血压,其裂解产物钙拮抗作用降低,但有α-肾上腺素能受体拮抗作用,本文以裂解物为先导化合物设计合成了两类取代的四氢异喹啉衍生物Ⅲ及Ⅳ。初步药理试验表明:大部分化合物有α-肾上腺素能受体拮抗作用,少数化合物钙拮抗活性有所增强,其中Ⅲ_15,19对正常麻醉大鼠有一定的降压作用、Ⅳ_17,19对实验性动物心律失常有明显的保护作用。部分化合物量化计算表明:化合物与α₁-受体作用方式可能是形成电荷转移复合物。     

Progression of amiodarone induced cataracts

Amiodarone hydrochloride is a potent antiarrhythmic agent recently approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration. Anterior subcapsular lens opacities were observed in seven of fourteen patients treated with moderate to high doses of amiodarone at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco in 1982. The present report summarizes the present status of these same fourteen patients ten years later. Anterior subcapsular lens opacities developed or progressed in all patients continuing treatment with this antiarrhythmic agent during the following ten year interval. Although Snellen visual acuities are not decreased, subtle visual impairment is present as measured by contrast sensitivity measurements with and without glare. This decrease in visual acuity is not a contraindication for therapy with this potentially life saving drug.     

胃久灵抗溃疡、抗胃炎作用及毒性的初步研究

以中药验方胃久灵对大白鼠的两种急性溃疡模型、一种慢性溃疡模型及两种胃炎模型用药治疗,证明胃久灵确有抗溃疡抗胃炎作用.其中对慢性溃疡的治疗作用较为突出.经急、慢性毒性实验,未见对重要脏器有任何毒性损害.     

BUERGER'S DISEASE IN HONG KONG: A REVIEW OF 89 CASES

Background : A retrospective analysis of 103 case records from 1978 to 1996 with a provisional diagnosis of Buerger's disease was undertaken at the Department of Surgery, University of Hong Kong, Queen Mary Hospital. The aim of the study was to elucidate the clinical course and evaluate the results of surgical intervention of Buerger's disease in Hong Kong Chinese people. Methods : Fourteen patients were subsequently excluded from the study because of inability to fulfil our diagnostic criteria. Data on clinical presentation, investigations, indications and results of surgical intervention were reviewed. Sympathectomies and arterial reconstructions were performed on 42 and four patients, respectively, for critical ischaemia or rest pain. Outcome was analysed with respect to the rate of ulcer healing, pattern of recurrence and limb loss. Results : The patients were all young male heavy smokers with a mean age of 36.5 years. The majority of patients (80%) presented with ischaemic ulceration or gangrene. Vascular reconstruction was undertaken in four patients and satisfactory long-term results were obtained in three patients. Sympathectomy was able to relieve symptoms in 87% of operated patients and ischaemic ulceration healed in 2.6 (mean) ± 1.7 (SD) months after the operation. If the patient continued to smoke, surgical intervention did not exempt the patient from a relapse or amputation. Conclusion : Sympathectomy provides short-term pain relief and promotes ulcer healing in patients with Buerger's disease but carries no long-term benefit. Complete abstinence from smoking is the only means of arresting the progression of the disease.     

外伤性截瘫合并耳聋11例临床分析

初步分析了11例外伤性截瘫合并耳聋患者,指出外伤性截瘫多有慢性肾功能不全、肾性贫血等并发症。这些并发症对耳聋的发生有一定的影响,但长时间或反复使用耳毒性药物是一个不可忽视的重要因素。作者对此提出了预防耳聋的一些具体措施,可供临床参考或借鉴。     

加温合并药物治疗Lewis肺癌的实验研究

本实验以荷 Lewis 肺癌的 NIH 小鼠为模型,以肿瘤平均直径倍增时间(MDDT)为终点,进行加温合并抗癌药物的研究。结果表明:①43℃加温25分钟,对 Lewis 肺癌有明显的治疗效果(P<0.05);②喜树碱16mg/kg合并加温25分钟,对 Lewis 肺癌的抑制作用随加热温度升高而加强,在43℃时出现相加作用(P<0.001);③斑蝥素0.45mg/kg,高三尖杉酯碱1.2mg/kg 或消瘤芥0.75mg/kg 合并加温25分钟,对Lewis 肺癌的抑制作用随加热温度升高而增强,其中斑蝥素和消瘤芥在43℃时出现协同作用(P<0.001);①去甲斑蝥酸钠3mg/kg 对 Lewis 肺癌无治疗作用,但合并43℃加温25分钟时有协同作用;⑤鸦胆子油口服乳液8ml/kg,间隔27小时合并43℃加温25分钟,对 Lewis 肺癌的治疗有相加作用,并明显延长了荷瘤动物的生存时间。
