To perform true three-dimensional activation experiments in the human brain, dedicated localized echo-volume imaging (L-EVI) methods were developed. Three-dimensional acquisition allows generation of activation maps with minimal vascular enhancement related to inflow effects. The rapid acquisition of the L-EVI (~100 msec) reduces signal instabilities caused by motion, facilitating the detection of the small intensity changes expected with brain activation. Single-shot L-EVI was performed on normal volunteers at 1.5 T, imaging a three-dimensional predefined volume (240 × 45 × 45 mm3) in the superior portion of the brain with a spatial resolution of 3.75 × 5 × 5 mm3. Increased brain coverage was achieved with a multi-volume imaging (three-shot) version, which simultaneously achieved effective suppression of signals from cerebrospinal fluid. In addition, both asymmetric spin-echo (ASE) and spin-echo (SE) versions of the technique were used to detect blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) signal changes in the motor cortex with a finger-tapping paradigm. Images obtained by the L-EVI sequence were qualitatively comparable to standard multislice two-dimensional echo-planar images. Both ASE and SE functional MRI (fMRI) experiments showed consistent activation in the contralateral primary sensorimotor cortex. Furthermore, significant differences in location and magnitude of activation was observed between the two methods, confirming theoretical predictions.  相似文献

Abstract: Studies on the circadian rhythm of urine excretion in healthy men have demonstrated that the maximal urine flow occurs in the early afternoon and the minimal around midnight. In this study, an abnormality in the variation of urine volume was found in parkinsonian patients. Urine samples were collected during daytime (9:00–21:00) and nighttime (21:00–9:00). Fifteen healthy control subjects were examined and found to excrete 60% during the daytime and 40% during the nighttime of the total urine volume. Sixteen parkinsonian patients excreted 43% during the daytime and 57% during the nighttime. In contrast to the control subjects, the parkinsonian patients excreted a smaller volume of their urine during the daytime than during the nighttime. This finding might be related to the degeneration of dopaminergic and/or nondopaminergic neurons in the brain which control urinary excretion.  相似文献

A limited flip angle gradient-echo 3D volume acquisition imaging protocol for mapping partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) in perfluorocarbon compounds (PFCs) at low field (0.14 T) is presented. The pO2 measurement method is based on the paramagnetic effect of dissolved molecular oxygen (O2) which reduces the PFC 19F T1? Specific objectives related to imaging of PFCs through use of the protocol include improved image signal-to-noise characteristics and elimination of 19F chemical shift artifacts. A parametric Wiener deconvolution filtering algorithm is used for suppression of 19F chemical shift artifacts. Application of the protocol is illustrated in a series of calculated pO2 maps of a gas equilibrated, multi-chamber phantom containing perfluorotributylamine (FC-43). The utility of the protocol is demonstrated in vivo through images of a commercially available perfluorocarbon based blood substitute emulsion containing FC-43 sequestered in the liver and spleen of a rat.  相似文献

目的 观察香烟烟雾吸入对大鼠局灶性脑缺血后梗死灶的影响,探讨其机制。方法 建立吸烟大鼠模型。用TTC染色法测定梗死灶体积,检测大鼠局灶性脑缺血后神经功能缺陷评分及梗死灶体积占同侧半球百分比。结果 除戒烟组外各吸烟组大鼠神经功能缺陷评分及梗死灶体积与对照组相比显著增加,吸烟4周、8周及12周依次增加。戒烟组神经功能评分及梗死体积明显低于吸烟4周组,与对照组无显著差别。结论 吸烟可加重大鼠局灶性脑缺血后脑组织损害,且随着吸烟时间增加而加重,戒烟可使这种脑损害得到一定程度的恢复。  相似文献

刺激犬的颈迷走神经外周端时可引起心动过缓,而对心脏的抑制作用则逐渐减弱,表现为心率逐渐恢复(但比对照慢)。刺激后DBP立即下降,而SBP系逐渐下降,且下降程度没有DBP大。在刺激时及停止后均出现ES,其分别占刺激次数的47%和53%。在刺激停止后出现PVT(平均加速24.5次/min),PVT期间R波和BP波数不等,SV和BP轻度降低。LVET缩短和PEP/LVET比值升高,出现ES时,SV和BP较ES前显著降低。反映PVT时心脏功能降低。PVT的要理不太清楚,本研究表明反射性迷走撤退在PVT中不起作用。Q-T/Q-S_2比值增大是CA释放的间接证据。心得安可减弱PVT,阿托品可增强PVT,说明PVT由迷走静经释放CA所致。  相似文献

Twenty-four mongrel dogs were anaesthetized and ventilated mechanically in the supine position. Extravascular lung water (EVLW) and central blood volume (CBV) were measured with a double indicator (dye/cold) dilution technique. Both indicators were detected intravascularly in the aortic root with a fibreoptic thermistor catheter. Seven dogs ventilated with a positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) of 1.0 kPa (10 cmH2O) for a short period of time (less than 20 min) displayed no significant change in EVLW as measured with the indicator dilution technique (= EVLWi), while reductions were seen in both CBV (15%, P less than 0.01) and cardiac output (CO-thermodilution technique) (10%, P less than 0.05). Another seven dogs ventilated with a PEEP of 1.0 kPa for 8 h showed a gradual increase in EVLWi. After 8 h, a mean increase of 34% (P less than 0.01) was recorded, and the increase was also verified by post-mortem gravimetric determination of EVLW (= EVLWg), displaying an increase of 61% (P less than 0.01). In five dogs ventilated with zero end-expiratory pressure (ZEEP) for 8 h, no changes in EVLWi, CO, and CBV were observed, and EVLWg was mean 4.39 g/kg body weight (BW). Five additional dogs were sacrificed after 15 min of anaesthesia without catheterization and EVLWg was found to be 4.24 g/kg BW. It is concluded that EVLWi does not change measurably during ZEEP or short periods of PEEP. However, long periods (8 h) of PEEP result in elevated EVLWi values. We studied seven analytical methods of estimating the plasma volume from the decay curves of indocyanine green. Fifteen volunteers received 1.0 mgkg−1 of the dye by intravenous injection and the plasma concentration was measured continuously using spectrophotometry. Plasma volumes were calculated using three single-regression methods (1-a, 1-b, 1-c) and four biexponential regression methods (2-a, 2-b, 2-c, 2-d). The means (SD) of 1-a, 1-b and 1-c were 39 (5.0), 44 (5.7) and 54 (11.5) mlkg−1, respectively, and these were significantly different from each other (p < 0.05). The values for methods 2-b, 2-c and 2-d were similar to each other: 39 (4.6), 40 (4.1) and 40 (4.0) mlkg−1, respectively. These required more than 3 min circulation or mixing time. When the time allowed for mixing was less than 3 min (method 2-a) the plasma volume was underestimated. We conclude that plasma volume estimation using indocyanine green and spectrophotometry is most accurate when the mixing time is adequate (3–5 min) and the decay curves are analysed using biexponential regression.  相似文献

Summary. The aim of the present study was to establish a more differentiating indicator of plasma membrane integrity of spermatozoa than the classic version of the hypoosmotic swelling test according to Jeyendraan. Spermatozoa were prepared by density gradient centrifugation (90% Percoll) to select 'fertilization competent' spermatozoa only. After a second washing procedure sufficiently pure sperm cell suspensions were obtained. The volume distributions of these sperm cells were measured with a Coulter Counter at 25 °C after adaptation in 300 mosmolar NaCl solution resp. 150 mosmolar NaCl solution for 5 min. These volume distributions showed significantly different patterns for the isotonic and hypotonic stress situation in the simple salt solution. Moreover, the comparison of the response to hypoosmotic stress showed more than four reproducible characteristic patterns, promising well differentiated results for different sperm populations. The new method for the detection of hypoosmotic swelling effect might be a real and valuable functional parameter.  相似文献
