We examined the relationship between testosterone levels, violent dreams, and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) in 31 men with Parkinson's disease (PD): 12 with clinical RBD and 19 without. All PD patients with clinical RBD experienced violent dreams, but none of the 19 non-RBD patients reported violent dreams. While dream content appears to be more aggressive in PD patients with clinical RBD, the presence of violent dreams or clinical RBD is not associated with testosterone levels in men with PD.  相似文献

The F1 hybrid mouse strain, from B10Q and DBA/1 parentals (the QD strain), is highly susceptible to induction of type II collagen-induced arthritis, an experimental model for rheumatoid arthritis. Males are more susceptible than females. Oophorectomy enhances susceptibility to arthritis and treatment with physiological doses of 17 beta-oestradiol (E2) suppresses disease. E2 treatment lowers the incidence of arthritis also in non-castrated and castrated males, showing that the anti-arthritic effect by oestrogen is not dependent on either sex hormone imprinting effects or interference with male sex hormones. Testosterone treatment of normal females, but not of castrated females, exaggerated development of the disease. In the testosterone-treated normal females, the oestrogen effect on vaginal smear was abolished and ovarian weight decreased, suggesting that the testosterone-mediated enhancing effect is caused by inhibition of ovarian oestrogen production. The crucial importance of oestrogens for the development of arthritis is focused on the effectiveness of treatment with gestation-related doses of E2 of normal, non-castrated females.  相似文献

The proposed key symptoms of the female androgen insufficiency syndrome (FAIS) include reduced libido, diminished well being and lowered mood. The diagnosis of FAIS is made on the basis of these symptoms in the setting of a low serum free testosterone level. However, there is currently no readily available inexpensive assay which reliably measures free testosterone levels in the female range. The diagnosis of FAIS is further complicated by the lack of data demonstrating a minimum serum free testosterone level which, if below this, correlates with the symptoms of FAIS. Despite the complexities involved with defining FAIS, the symptoms have been reported to respond well to testosterone replacement. There is a need for formulations of testosterone therapy specifically designed for use in women, along with clear guidelines regarding optimal therapeutic doses and long-term safety data.  相似文献

Summary Intramuscular administration of 250 mg testosterone oenanthate per week over a period of 21 weeks treatment rapidly and sustainedly suppressed serum LH as well as FSH levels in seven normal males, while serum testosterone rose by a factor of approximately two. These together with other data provide increasing evidence for a feedback control of FSH secretion by gonadal steroids in the male in addition to the already described but as yet undefined tubular testicular factor.  相似文献

The effect of oestradiol treatment on the secretion of growth hormone (GH) was investigated in normal unrestrained male rats with chronic i. v. cannulae and in hypophysectomized male rats with autotransplanted pituitaries. The effect of gonadectomy of normal rats on the plasma GH secretory pattern was also evaluated. Baseline plasma GH levels were elevated following estradiol treatment of normal male rats (1.5 mg kg-1 per 15 days). Gonadectomy of male rats also resulted in increased baseline GH levels, although the effect was less apparent than after oestradiol administration. The pulse height was not influenced by gonadectomy or oestradiol administration. In male rats with the pituitary autotransplanted to the kidney capsule, oestradiol caused a dose-dependent increase in plasma GH levels, while there was no such effect of testosterone. These results suggest that the stimulatory influence of oestradiol on baseline GH levels is, at least partly, due to a direct effect on the pituitary. Plasma prolactin levels were elevated in rats with pituitary transplants receiving oestradiol. It is concluded that oestrogen administration to normal male rats increases baseline plasma GH levels, possibly by an effect exerted directly at the pituitary level.  相似文献

Activity of oxidative enzymes in the epithelium lining the uterine cavity and in the glandular epithelium of ovariectomized rats in the period of climacteric disorders was investigated by a comparative microphotometric method. An increase in lactate dehydrogenase (LD) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity and a decrease in succinate dehydrogenase (SD) and NAD- and NADP-diaphorase activity were found in the epithelial cells lining the uterine cavity. LD activity was increased in the glandular epithelium but SD, and NAD- and NADP-diaphorase activity was sharply reduced. Injection of testosterone propionate caused a marked increase in the activity of the oxidative enzymes studied in the endometrial epithelium of the rats compared with their activity in control rats and in rats not receiving the hormone.Research Institute of Human Morphology, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, Moscow. The study was designed and conducted to evaluate the plant-based diet status and its association with erectile function (EF) in Chinese young healthy men. From July 2018 to May 2020, 116 objectively proved physically and psychologically healthy men were selected. Clinical questionnaires, detailed physical examinations and blood tests were all assessed. An overall plant-based diet index (PDI) and a healthful plant-based diet index (hPDI) were developed from each participant to measure plant-based diet quantitatively. The EF was measured by both the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) and the surrogated measures of endothelial function, peripheral levels of nitric oxide (NO) and E-selectin. In subjects, the mean PDI and hPDI were 53.8 ± 8.2 and 54.7 ± 8.9 respectively. Results of multivariate analysis showed that both PDI and hPDI were negatively associated with BMI (all p < .05), but had no relationships with NO, E-selectin, TT levels and IIEF-5 scores (all p > .05). In a subgroup of male population, Chinese young healthy men, the plant-based diet, measured by PDI and hPDI, was not related to erectile function. The population can adhere to plant-based diet to keep healthy without concerns of negative influence on erectile function.  相似文献

Aim: To demonstrate the role of the 8 kDa peptide in regulation of testosterone production by mt Leydig cells. Meth-ods: A peptide similar to 8 kDa peptide purified from immature rat Leydig cells was isolated and purified from rat lungcytosol. Immunological and structural similarity between the peptides purified from lung and Leydig cells was estab-lished by Western blot and tryptic map comparison respectively. Results: Addition of the 8 kDa peptide 10, 50, 100;and 150 ug decreased the production of testosterone in Leydig cells dose-dependently. But the addition of the peptide150 ug along with hCG had no effect on hCG-stimulated increase in testosterone production. Conclusion: In vitro ad-dition of the peptide purified from lung cytosol to adult rat Leydig cells resulted in a concentration-dependent decrease inbasal testosterone production although it had no effect on hCG-stimulated testosterone production.
