Median arcuate ligament syndrome is an anatomic and clinical entity characterized by dynamic compression of the proximal celiac artery by the median arcuate ligament, which leads to postprandial epigastric pain, vomiting, and weight loss. These symptoms are usually nonspecific and are easily misdiagnosed as functional dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, or gastropathy. In this report, we presented a 72-year-old male patient with celiac artery compression syndrome causing recurrent abdominal pain associated with gastric ulcer and iron deficiency anemia. This association is relatively uncommon and therefore not well determined. In addition, we reported the CT angiography findings and three-dimensional reconstructions of this rare case.  相似文献

This study examines the hypothesis that neuronal infectivity and the spreading of the pseudorabies virus (PRV) through the synapses in the central nervous system (CNS) are influenced by the oestrogen levels. The arcuate nucleus (ARC) and the subfornical organ (SFO) were chosen as models for analysis; the neurons in both structures possess oestrogen receptors and are mutually connected. A genetically engineered pseudorabies virus (Ba-DupLac) was used as a transneuronal tract tracer. This virus is taken up preferably by axon terminals, and transported very specifically through the synapses in a retrograde manner. Ba-DupLac was injected into the ARC of rats, followed by monitoring of the PRV-immunoreactivity (PRV-IR) in the SFO 72 h following inoculation. We found no PRV immunolabelling in the SFO of ovariectomized (OVX) rats, or in those OVX animals that received oestrogen shortly (4 h) before PRV infection (OVX + E 4 h). In contrast, in those OVX animals that received oestrogen 12 h before PRV infection (OVX + E 12 h), and also in intact control animals, PRV-IR was demonstrated in the SFO in all cases. Surprisingly, a reverse labelling was observed in the OVX rats; PRV-IR appeared in the pyriform cortex, whereas PRV-IR could not be detected in the control and OVX + E 12 h animals. As far as we are aware, this is the first study to demonstrate that transneuronal PRV labelling depends on the effects of oestrogen on certain CNS structures and connections.  相似文献

Electrophysiological recordings were made from medial preoptic/anterior hypothalamic (MPOAH) neurones which could be orthodromically excited from the lateral septum (LS) in gonadally intact and castrated male rats. Castration significantly reduced the mean percentage of MPOAH neurones which responded reliably to 0.6 Hz stimulation (from 81.1% to 54.1%) and this could be reversed by testosterone propionate (from 52.5% to 90.1%). Both in the gonadally intact (58.1%) and castrated (53.8%) groups these MPOAH neurones with LS inputs also had inputs from the contralateral fimbria (CFIMB). A further experiment investigated whether these MPOAH neurones responding to LS stimulation had connections with the arcuate/median eminence (ARC/ME) region or the medial forebrain bundle (MFB). Altogether, 23.2% projected directly into the MFB and 9.5% into the ARC/ME. A further 28.4% and 31.6% of these MPOAH neurones received inputs from these respective brain regions. A small population of MPOAH neurones were also found which could be driven antidromically both from the LS and the MFB.Results show that testosterone alters the responsiveness of MPOAH neurones to stimulation of the LS. Since subpopulations of these neurones project to the MFB/and ARC/ME the effects of castration on them may reflect both changes in sexual behavior and, for example, gonadotropin release.  相似文献

Gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA)A receptor stimulation in the nucleus accumbens shell produces intense hyperphagia in rats and increases Fos expression in the lateral hypothalamus. To explore the involvement of hypothalamic orexin/hypocretin- or melanin concentrating hormone-immunoreactive neurons in this effect, the GABAA agonist, muscimol (0, 50 ng), was infused directly into the nucleus accumbens shell of rats; 90 min later, their brains were collected and subsequently processed for immunohistochemistry. A group exposed to a novel environment was included to evaluate the specificity of Fos expression changes with regard to general arousal. Alternating sections through the hypothalamus were double-stained for orexin/hypocretin-Fos or melanin concentrating hormone-Fos combinations. Intra-accumbens shell muscimol treatment significantly increased the percentage of orexin/hypocretin-containing neurons expressing Fos in the lateral, but not medial, portion of the perifornical/lateral hypothalamic area. Regardless of treatment condition, greater percentages of orexin/hypocretin-containing neurons in the medial portion of the hypothalamus expressed Fos relative to cells located more laterally. None of the manipulations increased Fos expression in melanin concentrating hormone-immunoreactive neurons. Muscimol treatment also markedly increased Fos expression in the arcuate nucleus, which connects reciprocally to the lateral/perifornical hypothalamic area. Thus, orexin/hypocretin-containing neurons in lateral sectors of the hypothalamus, along with cells in the arcuate nucleus, display phasic increases in Fos expression after an orexigenic pharmacological manipulation of the nucleus accumbens shell, but to a lesser degree after the heightened arousal associated with exposure to a novel environment.  相似文献

Galanin-like peptide (GALP) mRNA is expressed in neurones of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus and within pituicytes in the neurohypophysis. Several neuropeptides that are expressed in the arcuate nucleus participate in the neuroendocrine regulation of pituitary hormone secretion. Our objective was to determine the extent to which GALP might be a target for regulation by pituitary hormones or their downstream targets in the rat. The expression of GALP mRNA in the arcuate nucleus was reduced by hypophysectomy as determined by in situ hybridization. However, this did not appear to be attributable to the loss of either gonadal or adrenal steroids because castrated, ovariectomized and adrenalectomized rats had GALP mRNA expression that was indistinguishable from their respective controls. Next, we investigated the effects of growth hormone deficiency on GALP mRNA expression by studying dwarf rats and found that GALP gene expression was not different between dwarf rats and controls. We found that thyroidectomy led to a significant reduction in GALP mRNA expression compared to intact controls, and thyroidectomized rats implanted with thyroxine pellets had GALP mRNA expression that was similar to intact controls. Thus, the reduction of GALP mRNA expression seen in hypophysectomized animals may reflect, in part, a selective loss of thyroid hormone. We also found that the expression of GALP mRNA was increased in the neurohypophysis of lactating rats compared to nonlactating rats, whereas GALP mRNA expression in the arcuate nucleus was unaffected by lactation. This suggests that the induction of GALP gene expression in pituicytes is physiologically associated with activation of oxytocin and vasopressin secretion during lactation.  相似文献

Galanin-like peptide (GALP) is a hypothalamic neuropeptide that binds and activates galanin receptors in vitro. Following the discovery of GALP, researchers have attempted to properly place it in the context of galanin receptor physiology. Central injections of GALP have revealed some common actions with galanin, such as acutely increased food intake and suppression of the thyroid axis. Other actions are unique to GALP, such as long-term inhibition of food intake and stimulation of luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion in male rats. GALP and galanin also produce differential effects on expression of the immediate early gene product Fos in the brain. Determining which of these actions are dependent on galanin receptors (versus a putative GALP-specific receptor), as well as which actions represent the authentic physiology of endogenous GALP will require continued experimentation. GALP gene expression is positively regulated by several hormones involved in the control of energy balance and metabolism, namely leptin, insulin and thyroid hormone. Based on current evidence, GALP neurones may serve as a hypothalamic relay, transmitting information from the periphery to circuits within the brain involved in the physiological control of metabolism and reproduction.  相似文献

Tissue receptor autoradiography with 3H-lysergic acid diethylamide (3H-LSD), 3H-8-hydroxy-2-[di-N-propylamine] tetralin (3H-8-OH-DPAT), and 125I-RTI-55 was used to map the distribution and developmental profile of 5-HT(1A-1D) and 5-HT2 receptors, 5-HT1A receptors, and the serotonin (5-HT) transporter (SERT), respectively, to nuclei with cardiorespiratory function in the human medulla from midgestation to maturity. The distribution pattern of the 5-HT markers was heterogeneous, with variable densities of binding of each observed both in nuclei with and without 5-HT cell bodies. The highest density of binding for each marker was observed in the raphé nuclei, the site of the highest density of 5-HT cell bodies. A significant reduction in 5-HT receptor binding measured with 3H-LSD was observed between midgestation and infancy, and between infancy and maturity in multiple nuclei, but no changes were observed across infancy. A significant increase in 5-HT1A receptor binding density was observed across infancy in the hypoglossal nucleus (regression slope coefficient = 0.008 +/- 0.002, P = 0.02), and a marginally significant increase was observed in the raphé obscurus (regression slope coefficient = 0.061 +/- 0.026 [mean +/- SEM], P = 0.05). No significant age-related changes in SERT binding were observed at any time. With the exception of the hypoglossal nucleus, where 5-HT1A receptor binding increases while SERT binding remains stable, the medullary 5-HT markers analyzed in the study are essentially "in place" at birth. This study provides important baseline data that serve as a foundation for future work in pediatric 5-HT brainstem disorders, including sudden infant death syndrome.  相似文献
