Inadvertent removal of foreign body via a flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope in a 4-year-old boy

We report the case of a 4-year-old child with an atypical presentation of an aspirated unwitnessed foreign body in the airway. During an attempt to obtain a biopsy of what appeared to be a mucosal growth, the foreign body was removed. 玻璃体切除术联合睫状体平部切口摘除球内异物

报道玻璃体切除术联合睫状体平部切口摘除球内异物的联合手术，治疗眼球后段异物８例８眼。其中，３眼为非磁性异物，５眼为磁性异物，均一次手术成功取出异物。介绍了此联合手术的方法，并对其意义、适应证以及手术前的准备进行了较为详细的讨论，对其并发症的处理和预防也作了叙述。     

Increased mechanical fragility and intravascular lysis of erythrocytes in cats fed a propylene glycol-containing diet

The mechanism responsible for the decreased red blood cell (RBC) lifespan associated with feeding propylene glycol (PG)-containing diets was investigated to understand better how Heinz body-contained RBC are destroyed. Three cats were fed a diet containing 12% PG for 14 days and three other cats served as control. The experimental group developed reticulocytosis and increased Heinz body numbers. Red blood cell membrane immunoglobulih G (IgG) concentration and phagocytosis of RBC by peritoneal macrophages were lower in the PG group compared to the control group suggesting that neither IgG nor non-IgG-mediated phagocytosis was responsible for the RBC destruction. Osmotic fragility, rate of RBC proteolysis and mild mechanical fragility test results were not statistically different from controls. However, when RBC from cats fed PG were exposed to severe mechanical stress, their fragility were increased 2.2–2.8 times. Additionally, haptoglobin concentrations were decreased in the PG group. These data suggest that intravascular lysis may be involved in the pathogenesis of PG-induced RBC destruction.     

Medpor义眼座置入同期放置钛钉治疗眼眶凹陷畸形

目的探讨Medpor义眼座植入同期放置钛钉治疗眼球摘除术后眼眶凹陷畸形的有效性和可行性。方法眼球摘除同期置入Medpor义眼座患者80例，随机分为钛钉Ⅰ期置入组和Ⅱ期置入组，每组各40例。比较两组患者术中、术后出现的并发症和患者对义眼活动度和外观的满意程度。结果40例Ⅰ期置入患者术中有37例在术后2～6周时钛钉尾端自发性暴露，只有3例患者需要剪开结膜使钛钉尾端暴露。术后出现并发症者共37例，占46％：其中Ⅰ期置入组17例，Ⅱ期置入组加例，两者差异无统计学意义（P=0．501）。所有患者对其外观和活动度满意，其中Ⅰ期置入组非常满意36例，比较满意4例；Ⅱ期置入组非常满意34例，比较满意6例，两者差异无统计学意义（P=0．502）。结论Medpor义眼座置入同期放置钛钉治疗眼球摘除术后眼眶凹陷畸形，是一种安全有效的手术方法，同时患者避免了再次手术的痛苦。     

眼刺激试验替代方法研究进展

由于动物眼刺激试验 (Draizetest)本身存在的问题和“3R”运动的兴起 ,各国广泛开展了动物眼刺激试验替代方法的研究和验证试验。各种替代方法作用机制不一 ,优缺点各异 ,故需要一组互补性体外试验来对化学物质的眼刺激性进行评价     

Review of long-term adverse effects associated with the use of chemically-modified animal and nonanimal source hyaluronic acid dermal fillers

Although only recently introduced, chemically-modified hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have gained widespread acceptance as “redefining” dermal fillers in the fields of dermatology and cosmetic facial surgery. Although hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers have a low overall incidence of long term side effects, occasional adverse outcomes, ranging from chronic lymphoplasmacytic inflammatory reactions to classic foreign body-type granulomatous reactions have been documented. These long-term adverse events are reviewed.     

火器伤后胸心异物存留

目的：探讨火器伤后胸心异物存留摘除的指征、时机、方法及结果。方法：回顾性分析了３９例火器伤后胸心异物存留摘除者的一般资料、临床表现、不同处理方法的选择及效果。结果：１９例患者早期因凝固性血胸及肺持续漏气伴异物存留或异物存留伴胸腔及心包腔化脓性感染，在开胸清创时做了异物摘除；另２０例患者为胸伤伤情恢复后单纯异物存留，因异物位于肺门、心脏及大血管旁或远期并发症等，而后期开胸异物摘除。结论：火器性胸部穿透伤后，因异物本身或其他原因所致早期并发症者，应在开胸清创的同时摘除异物；胸伤伤情恢复而单纯胸心异物存留，应选择性摘除或因并发远期并发症而摘除。     

Influence of pre-target cortical potentials on saccadic reaction times

 Saccades elicited by suddenly appearing targets show a broad distribution of reaction times. This may depend on variations in the subject’s state of preparation before target onset. To test this hypothesis, we recorded scalp event-related potentials from eight human subjects to investigate whether differences in saccadic reaction times (SRTs) are related to differences in cortical slow potentials prior to target onset. Compared with trials with medium SRTs (180–230 ms), trials with fast SRTs (130–180 ms) were found to be preceded by a more negative slow potential and trials with slow SRTs (230–280 ms) were found to be preceded by a more positive slow potential. These results support the hypothesis that cortical activation prior to target appearance influences SRTs. Received: 21 June 1996 / Accepted: 15 January 1997     

实验性视网膜光化学损伤中的蛋白激酶C

目的：研究实验性视网膜光化学损伤中蛋白激酶C(protein kinase C，PKC)活性的改变；探索地塞米松(dexamethasone，DXM)对视网膜中PKC活性的影响。 方法；48只SD大鼠分为对照组和DXM组，后者于光照前3天开始，连续5天腹膜腔注射DXM 1mg/(kg·d)。经(1 900±106.9)Ix的绿色荧光灯(λ＝510nm～560nm)连续照射24小时后的6小时和1、3、7、14天，进行视网膜PKC活性检测。 结果：光化学损伤后视网膜中的PKC活性在短暂的上升后即出现持续性的下降；DXM对PKC的活性改变无明显作用。 结论：光化学损伤中的视网膜功能障碍可能与PKC活性的持续降低有关。 （中华眼底病杂志，1997，13：78-80）     

The history of the evil eye and its influence on ophthalmology, medicine and social customs

Belief in the evil eye is one of the oldest and most widespread superstitions in the world. The concept of the evil eye has influenced present day ophthalmology, medicine, and social customs. Oculus sinister (OS), the serpent and the staff of Asclepius, the symbol of RX, and many social customs are historically related to the evil eye. Presented, in part, at the tenth annual meeting of the David G. Cogan Ophthalmic History Society, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, March 8 and 9, 1997.
