Objective Report of two cases of exudative discoid and lichenoid dermatosis (Sulzberger-Garbe), with typical penile lesions. Differential diagnosis of persistent penile plaques. Background Following remission of the generalized eruption of exudative discoid and lichenoid dermatosis (Sulzberger-Garbe), it is not unusual to see a single remaining lesion localized on the penis. Since Sulzberger et al. (Sulzberger MB, Witten VH, Hunt JA. Puzzling persistent penile plaques. Arch Dermatol 1956:73:101-109) reviewed dermatoses presenting with puzzling persistent penile plaques in 1955, further dermatoses have evolved as important differential diagnoses. Much controversy has arisen as to the justification of exudative discoid and lichenoid dermatosis (Sulzberger-Garbe) as a disease entity. Conclusions Diagnosis of most cases of persistent plaques of dermatitis on the penis is possible with a careful examination of the entire skin, and a thorough history to discover past lesions. The possibility of malignancy makes a biopsy mandatory. Exudative discoid and lichenoid chronic dermatosis (Sulzberger-Garbe) typically responds well to systemic steroids. Intrale-sional triamcinolone acetonide has been demonstrated to be effective in the treatment of a persistent penile plaque in exudative discoid and lichenoid dermatosis (Sulzberger-Garbe), and may be helpful in discontinuing or reducing systemic therapy to a level compatible with long-term treatment.  相似文献

In this study, large areas of goldfish telencephalon were ablated including rostral nucleus preopticus periventriculare (rNPP), and degenerating axons were traced by a modified Fink and Heimer procedure. The lesioning procedure ablated large regions of area dorsalis telencephali pars medialis, centralis, and dorsolateral complex; and completely removed area ventralis telencephali pars dorsalis, ventralis, and lateralis. In addition, the supracommissural nucleus and rNPP were lesioned specifically because both nuclei have been thought to be involved in courtship behavior and endocrine control of reproduction. This investigation demonstrated extensive fiber projections from telencephalic nuclei and/or rNPP to the hypothalamus. Lesioned telencephalon and/or rNPP projected bilaterally to nucleus preopticus and the suprachiasmatic nucleus and unilaterally to the following tuberal nuclei: nucleus anterior tuberis, and the lateral hypothalamic nucleus. A much larger fiber projection to the inferior lobe nuclei was also observed with a large contralateral as well as ipsilateral input.  相似文献

The phosphorylation patterns of isolated red blood cell (RBC) membranes labeled with [ γ-32p]ATP are altered by Zn++ ions. Zn++ ions caused an increased phosphate incorporation into a 72 KDa protein and several proteins in the 40–60 KDa region and a decrease in the labeling of a 53 KDa protein. The 72 KDa and 53 KDa proteins have been identified as protein 4.2 and a protease-cleaved fragment of protein 3, respectively. Evidence suggests that the changes in phosphorylation pattern may be due to the stimulation of endogenous membrane alkaline phosphatase(s). Our results suggest that Zn++, at physiological concentrations in the intact erythrocyte, could modulate the phosphorylation of selected proteins which may regulate their association in the cytoskeletal network.  相似文献

Endometriosis and infertility are commonly associated. Thisstudy investigated the role of accelerated lipid peroxidationof spermatozoa by the peritoneal fluid of patients with endometriosisas a cause for this association. It proposes that the increasediron concentration present in the fluid of these patients actsas a catalyst for the process. Peritoneal fluid from 25 patientswith endometriosis and 25 matched controls was obtained at laparoscopy.Spermatozoa were incubated in the fluid from both groups andthe subsequent acrosome reaction rates analysed. The relationshipbetween these results and iron concentration in the fluid wasexamined. A significant decrease in the acrosome reaction ratewas seen in the endometriotic group(P = 0.034). Overall, a decreasein the acrosome reaction rate was associated with an increasediron concentration in the fluid(18 of the 25 pairs). In milddisease, (six of 11 pairs), the relationship was not as markedas that in severe disease (12 of 14 pairs). These results suggestthat the peritoneal fluid in patients with endometriosis hasa detrimental action on the acrosome reaction of spermatozoain vitro.  相似文献

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of azithromycin on mucocutaneous manifestations, oral health and immune response in Behçet's disease (BD). Methods: Eight BD patients with active mucocutaneous symptoms were treated with azithromycin for 4 weeks. Oral health, clinical manifestations and in vitro interleukin (IL)‐12, interferon (IFN)‐γ, IL‐10 and monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)‐1 responses were evaluated before and after treatment. Results: The number of folliculitic lesions, healing time of oral ulcers and scores of plaque indexes (PLIs) were lower after azithromycin treatment (P < 0.05). Scores of PLIs correlated positively with the healing time of oral ulcers (P = 0.02). Although a trend towards increased stimulated IL‐10 responses with azithromycin was observed, no statistically significant difference was found. Stimulated and unstimulated MCP‐1, IFN‐γ and IL‐12 responses were similar before and after treatment (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Azithromycin was observed to be effective in decreasing folliculitic lesions and fastening the healing time of oral ulcers in BD.  相似文献

Whereas water loss in land living animals occurs continuously, water intake takes place discontinuously. At the normal operating set point of plasma osmolality, urine is more concentrated than plasma due to secretion of vasopressin. Thus animals operate around a state of mild dehydration. As water loss occurs, the severity of dehydration and thirst increase in intensity and at some point water intake occurs. Sufficient water is consumed to return plasma osmolality to the normal operating set point. Food intake and water balance are interdependent as food provides the osmoles which determine obligatory renal solute excretion. When dry food with the same osmotic content was substituted for canned food (water content 74%), dogs increased water intake from 24.2 +/- 4.3 to 62.2 +/- 8.8 ml/kg. Urine output and urine osmolality were unchanged, as under conditions of normal hydration, near maximal urine concentration is achieved. Changing water intake is the only available variable to maintain water balance. During water deprivation, the major renal mechanism appears to be natriuresis. In rehydration, satiety mechanisms ensure appropriate water intake and renal sodium conservation restores sodium balance.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine whether alcoholic and control subjects respond differently to manipulations that either enhance personal involvement (PI) or reduce negative affect (R, relaxation) on tests of neuropsychological function. In Phase 1, 48 male alcoholics and 36 male control subjects completed neuropsychological tasks under standard instructional sets. In Phase 2, subjects completed equivalent forms of these tests under one of three randomly assigned conditions; the PI condition in which subjects were encouraged to identify specific ways of improving their performance, the R condition in which subjects participated in a short relaxation exercise designed to reduce anxiety, or a No Treatment (NT) condition in which no attempt to manipulate the subjects' involvement or affect was made. Alcoholics were inferior to controls in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 [Fs (1,82) > 5.03, ps < 0.03]. The experimental manipulation differentially affected measures of negative affect and effort in the predicted direction. There were no group x condition interactions. Alcoholic and control subjects responded comparably to the experimental manipulations. This investigation, in combination with others using related manipulations, reinforces the hypothesis that alcohol-related cognitives dysfunction reflects an underlying deficit in brain states.  相似文献
