Serum from young normal BALB/c mice was found to contain IgM antibodies able tomediate complement-dependent lysis of certain syngeneic or allogeneic tumor target cells. The titer of such naturally occurring antitumor antibodies (NATA) was found to increase with aging.A longitudinal serological study comparing the cytotoxicity potential of NATA fromnormal and from urethan-treated BALB/c mice was performed. It was found that urethan-treated mice that did not develop primary lung-adenomas within the duration of the experi-ment had significantly lower NATA titers, against one out of 4 target cells assayed, than urethan-treated animals that developed lung adenomas. This difference was evident in two independent experiments. The results suggested that the lower NATA activity of the urethan-treated mice that did not develop tumors existed even before exposure to the carcinogenic insult. This raises the possibility that certain populations could be segregated according to their natural antibody profile into those individuals which will develop primary tumors within a certain period if exposed to a subthreshold amount of carcinogen, and those which will not. 相似文献

Wounds 1 cm long, down to the cutaneous muscle, were inflicted on rats aged 11 days, 2 months, and 2.5 months in the subscapular region. Nociceptive stimulation was applied to the animals by means of an electric current 48 h after the operation. Mitotic activity was determined in cells of the stratum basale of the skin epithelium adjacent to the wound. Nociceptive stimulation was found to reduce the mitotic index of the cutaneous epithelial cells of the animals of all age groups studied by a considerable degree (by several times). This study tested the hypothesis that, as compared to whole-body bioelectrical impedance (BI) analysis, segmental BI analysis can estimate lean body mass (LBM) more accurately in a population with a large difference in muscularity. In addition to whole-body BI, which determines impedance (Z) between the wrist and ankle, two segmental BI analyses which determine the Z value of every body segment in each of (1) the arms, legs and trunk (distal BI) and (2) the upper arms, upper legs and trunk (proximal BI) were applied to a group of 125 male athletes and 75 non-athletes. The subjects were divided into validation and cross-validation groups. Simple and multiple regression analyses were applied to (length)2/Z (BI index) values for the whole-body and each body segment, to develop the prediction equations of LBM measured using air-displacement plethysmography. In the validation group, the SE of estimation was similar in the whole-body (3.4 kg, 5.4%), distal (3.4 kg, 5.5%) and proximal BI (3.3 kg, 5.2%) analyses. However, the whole-body and distal BI analyses produced systematical errors in the estimates of LBM. Moreover, the residuals in the two methods significantly (P<0.05) correlated with the ratios of BI indices of the upper arms and upper legs to those of the arms and legs, respectively, calculated as variables approximating the relative development of lean tissues at the proximal area of limbs. On the other hand, the proximal BI analysis was validated and cross-validated. Thus, the accuracy of estimating LBM was similar in the whole-body and the two segmental BI analyses. However, the prediction equations derived from the use of the whole-body BI index and a combination of the arms, legs and trunk BI indices produced a systematical error relating to the difference between the limb segments in lean tissue development. 相似文献

Immunized rabbits that were aerosol challenged for 2 to 3 wk with pigeon dropping extract, an etiologic agent of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, developed chronic pulmonary inflammation associated with cell-mediated immunity in bronchoalveolar cells. However, prolonged aerosol challenge for 12 wk resulted in the diminution of pulmonary inflammation (modulation) and the loss of demonstrable cell-mediated immunity. This was probably not due to loss of sensitized lymphocytes that mediated pulmonary inflammation. Furthermore, rabbits undergoing modulation when they were challenged with an unrelated antigen were refractory to the development of pulmonary inflammation for at least 9 wk. After this refractory period, animals reimmunized and aerosol challenged with pigeon dropping extract displayed an anamnestic response and produced pulmonary lesions that were strikingly similar to the histopathology of human hypersensitivity pneumonitis. 相似文献

The osteo-musculo-cutaneous trapezius flap has seen its indications in mandibular reconstruction reduced since the appearance of micro-anastomotic flaps. However, it may still be useful when the patient has marked atheroma contraindicating a free flap. While the arterial supply of this flap is well known, the same is not true for its venous drainage. The preservation of the accessory nerve and its limits in mandibular reconstruction has been little studied. We carried out a study on 30 subjects (60 cadaveric dissections of trapezius flaps) in order to address these questions. The study has been completed by a surgical series of five patients. The cadaveric study allowed demonstration of the variability of venous drainage of this flap, which depended on the external jugular vein in 80% of cases, the subclavian vein in 12% of cases and on both veins in about 8% of cases. The accessory nerve in one third of cases passed through the middle of the arteriovenous pedicle making its preservation impossible. The segment of the scapular spine allowed reconstruction of about 9 cm of mandible including the mental protuberance in 95% of cases. The surgical study confirmed the data of the cadaveric study and showed the value of this flap when free flaps are contraindicated. 相似文献

Using the horseradish peroxidase-technique, the myotopical arrangement of motoneurons innervating the transverse palatine muscle in the rat was studied. It appears that this muscle is innervated by axons from cells located in the ipsilateral intermediate subnucleus of the facial motor nucleus. By nerve transection and electrophysiological experiments it is shown that the transverse palatine muscle is innervated by the inferior as well as the superior buccolabial branch of the facial nerve. 相似文献

Responses of lateral medullary neurons to microstimulation of two points in the locomotor strip—rostral and caudal to the obex—were recorded intracellularly in mesencephalic decerebellated uncurarized cats. Excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials and orthodromic action potentials occurred up to 20 ms after a single stimulus. A number of cells responded to stimulation of a locomotor point by a repetitive discharge, and in some cells synaptic responses were evoked by contralateral stimulation. The responsive neurons were scattered among other cells in the lateral medullary tegmentum. At least one-third of neurons with synaptic responses to stimulation of the rostral locomotor point were antidromically invaded from the caudal one. The characteristic length of these descending axons was between 4 and 9 mm, although there were longer axons too.The lateral medullary cells which give synaptic responses to stimulation of the locomotor strip form the locomotor column located medial to the strip, and a portion of these cells send their axons to the strip. It is suggested that the activity is propagated polysynaptically along the column through axonal collaterals of its neurons. One can assume that when repetitive stimulation achieves a threshold for locomotion such a propagation occurs without decrement. As a result, spinal stepping generators are activated. 相似文献

Cerebral blood volume flow and flow velocity have been reported to increase during dynamic exercise, but whether the two increase in parallel and whether both increases occur as functions of exercise intensity remain unsettled. In this study, blood flow velocity in the common carotid artery was measured using the Doppler ultrasound method in eight healthy male students during graded treadmill exercise. The exercise consisted of stepwise progressive increases and decreases in exercise intensity. The peak intensity corresponded to approximately 85% of maximal oxygen consumption. During this exercise, the heart rate (f
c), mean blood pressure (BP) in the brachial artery and mean blood flow velocity (cc) in the common carotid artery increased as functions of exercise intensity. At the peak exercise intensity, (f
c), BP and cc increased by 134.5%, 20.5% and 51.8% over the control levels before exercise (P < 0.01), respectively. The resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI) were determined from the velocity profile and were expected to reflect the distal cerebral blood flow resistance. The RI and PI increased during the graded exercise, but tended to decrease at the highest levels of exercise intensity. As cc increased with increases in exercise intensity it would be expected that cerebral blood flow would also increase at these higher intensities. It is also suggested that blood flow velocity in the cerebral artery does not proportionately reflect the cerebral blood flow during dynamic exercise, since the cerebral blood flow resistance changes. 相似文献
