Development and Initial Testing of a Permanently Implantable Centrifugal Pump

Abstract: To be able to salvage heart failure patients, the need for an economical permanent ventricular assist device is increasing. To meet this increasing demand, a miniaturized centrifugal blood pump has been developed as a permanently implantable device. The Gyro permanently implantable model (PI-601) incorporates a sealless design with a blood stagnation free structure. The pump impeller is magnetically coupled to the driver magnet in a sealless manner. This pump is atraumatic and antithrombogenic and incorporates a double pivot bearing system. A miniaturized actuator was utilized in this system in collaboration with the University of Vienna. The priming volume of this pump is 20 ml. The overall size of the pump actuator package is 53 mm in height and 65 mm in diameter, 145 ml of displacement volume, and 305 g in weight. Testing to date has included in vitro hydraulic performance and hemolysis. This pump can provide 5 L/min against a 110 mm Hg total pressure head at 2,000 rpm and 8 Limin against 150 mm Hg at 2,500 rpm. The normalized index of hemo-lysis (NIH) value of this pump was 0.0028 g/100 L at 5 Limin against 100 mm Hg. A preliminary anatomical study revealed the possibility of the implantability of 2 such systems in biventricular bypass at a preperitoneal location. This system is feasible for use as a permanently implantable biventricular assist device.     

中老年人膳食和体液免疫水平的调查

作者调查了１６１例（男：９８，女：６３）中老年人的营养素摄入量、血浆蛋白及体液免疫水平。结果：该人群的大部分人热能的摄入量达ＲＤＡ值；膳食蛋白质、维生素Ａ、Ｂ２、Ｃ、锌和铁的摄入量较低；脂肪摄入量按热能比高于３０％者约占３０％；血浆总蛋白、球蛋白水平较低，尤其是女性；免疫球蛋白ＩｇＡ偏低，ＩｇＧ和ＩｇＭ偏高。     

革兰氏阴性杆菌发生过程控制的研究

本研究选择奇异变形杆菌和绿肿杆菌等作为实验体系，从群体发生发展过程的宏观表现上探讨了生物控制的时空表达及非线性问题。结果表明，杆菌发生过程的时相周期性可以表现为空间的波形靶图样，并具有分形的特征。实验结果表明，菌群在生长过程中的代谢产物是富含生物信息的控制中介机制。我们认为，生物系统局部存在着准平衡和准封闭的微生态环境，生物液晶的存在和相变是细菌群体发生过程的重要协同中介因素。     

Development and proliferation of lymphocytes in mice deficient for both interleukins-2 and -4

Interleukin (IL)-2 and IL-4 are considered as important regulators of growth and differentiation of lymphocytes. We report that in mice made deficient for both IL-2 and IL-4 by gene targeting all major T cell subsets and B cells were normal, indicating that IL-2 and IL-4 are not essential for development of the immune system. Paradoxically, proliferation of T cells was increased in both IL-2- and IL-4-deficient homozygous mice.     

提高H2O2/甲酸体系选择性氧化抽提脱硫效率的研究

为了降低焦化蜡油(CGO)-甲酸／H2O2选择性氧化体系中H2O2的无效分解速度，屏蔽重金属离子对H2O2分解的催化效应，考察了造纸行业中常用的硅酸钠、硅酸镁和乙二胺四乙酸(EDTA)等稳定剂和螯合剂的加入对有机溶剂抽提后CGO中含硫量的影响。实验结果表明，EDTA可以很好地和重金属离子螯合，氧化后CGO抽余油中硫含量大幅降低。     

Testosterone not associated with violent dreams or REM sleep behavior disorder in men with Parkinson's.

We examined the relationship between testosterone levels, violent dreams, and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) in 31 men with Parkinson's disease (PD): 12 with clinical RBD and 19 without. All PD patients with clinical RBD experienced violent dreams, but none of the 19 non-RBD patients reported violent dreams. While dream content appears to be more aggressive in PD patients with clinical RBD, the presence of violent dreams or clinical RBD is not associated with testosterone levels in men with PD.     

东北边境地区吸血蠓的调查研究

1980～1988年在东北边境的漠河、珲春县等10个县区采获吸血蠓2属37种,其中发现4个新种和4个国内新记录。不显库蠓(35.7％)和刺螯库蠓(34.9％)为优势蠓种。不同生境、场所和季节的蠓种组成有所不同。灰黑库蠓、淡角库蠓和端斑库蠓在整个活动季节均只出现一次高峰,而不显库蠓、刺螫库蠓和兴安库蠓在整个活动季节均出现两次高峰。刺螫库蠓的活动季节最长,为11旬,端斑库蠓最短,仅为5旬。刺螫库蠓、不显库蠓、兴安库蠓和灰黑库蠓在昼夜24小时均出现晨、昏两次活动高峰,而边缘库蠓只在凌晨出现一次晨峰。

赖型钩端螺旋体重组DNApCX7的特异性鉴定和限制性内切酶谱分析

本实验将赖型钩端螺旋体（简称钩体）ＤＮＡ基因库的克隆ｐＣＸ７制备成￣（３２）Ｐ－重组ＤＮＡ探针，对８个不同血清群的１７株问号状钩体、双曲钩体ＰａｔｏｃⅠ株以及细螺旋体３０５５株ＤＮＡ进行打点杂交；同时用１５种ＤＮＡ片断进行限制性内切酶谱分析。结果表明，该重组ＤＮＡ具有问号状钩体种（Ｓｐｅｃｉｅｓ）特异性，但与不同问号状钩体之间的同源性程度有差别；限制性内切酶谱分析发现ｐＣＸ７重组ＤＮＡ片段长约１．７ｋｂ，具有１个Ｂｇ１Ⅱ识别位点和３个ＢｓｔＢ１识别位点。     

Neurotrophin-like immunoreactivity in the human pre-term newborn, infant, and adult cerebellum

The immunohistochemical occurrence of the neurotrophin (NT) proteins nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin-4 (NT-4), and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) is shown in the pre-term newborn, infant, and adult human post-mortem cerebellum. The NT-like immunoreactive structures were unevenly distributed and showed regional differences among cerebellar lobules and folia. NGF-, NT-4-, and NT-3-positive neuronal perikarya were observed in all specimens examined. At variance with the other neurotrophins, the BDNF antiserum labelled neuronal cell bodies only in newborn life and infancy, as well as extensive nerve fibre systems, whose density increased with age. The NT-antibodies, tested by Western blot on human cerebellum homogenates, revealed immunoreactive bands corresponding to proteins of heterogenous molecular weight. The results obtained provide a first demonstration of the tissue localization of the NTs in the human cerebellum from perinatal to adult age, thus suggesting their involvement in the development, differentiation and maintenance of the cerebellar connectivity. Codistribution of the four NTs or sets of them was observed in cortical and deep nuclei neurons. Multiple trophic roles for NTs, encompassing the classic target-derived and local mechanisms of support, are envisaged as significant in development, differentiation, and maintenance of the human cerebellar connectivity.
