Rats were subjected to an ambient temperature (Ta) of 33°C for ca. 5 h during the last half of the dark phase for 5, 14 or 28 consecutive days (heat-exposed rats, HE), while control rats were kept at a constant Ta of 24°C. After the heat exposure schedule, the levels of hypothalamic temperature (Thy) as an index of body core temperature in the HE were significantly lower than those of the controls for 2–4 h in the last half of the dark phase. The low levels of Thy persisted during the specific period for 1, 3 and 6 days after the end of the 5-, 14- and 28-day heat exposure schedules, respectively. These results confirm that, in rats subjected to daily heat exposure for ca. 5 h at a fixed time per day, their Thy falls during the period when the rats were previously exposed to heat, and suggest that the duration of the specific Thy change observed after completing the heat exposure schedule depends on the length of the heat exposure schedule.  相似文献

Summary The effects of intravenous injections of Atropine (1.8 mg) and practolol (15 mg) on the thermoregulatory responses to 1 h of exercise on a motordriven treadmill have been investigated on six healthy subjects.The results show that -blockade had little effect on thermal responses to work except for a small but significant (p<0.05) decrease in mean skin temperature (¯T sk ) and peripheral tissue heat conductance (K). Metabolic (M) and total heat (H) production, and evaporative sweat loss (E) and rectal temperature (T re ) were similar to control values. In contrast, atropine, particularly at work loads beyond 60% maximal aerobic power output (VO2 max), raised T re (p<0.001), ¯T sk (p<0.001) and reduced E by approximately 50%. At the highest work loads T re increased as a linear function of time during the latter part of exercise, and at the 60th min was almost independent of relative stress (expressed as % VO2 max) imposed on the subjects. At the lower work loads the majority of subjects reached thermal equilibrium before the end of exercise by maintaining their convective heat transfer from core to periphery by increasing peripheral blood flow (as indicated by K), and raising their heat losses to environment by convection and radiation. The latter pathways for heat dissipation were enhanced by the subjects ability to sustain a ¯T sk 4 C above control values independently of M. Atropine had no effect on M or H but greatly affected work performance, no subject was able to exercise at loads >70% VO2 max for 1 h. Two methods of estimating body heat storage were compared under differing conditions of clothing, training, and acclimation to heat. Six male subjects underwent 8 weeks of physical training [60–80% of maximal aerobic power ( ) for 30–45 min · day–, 3–4 days · week–1 at < 25 °C dry bulb (db)] followed by 6 consecutive days of heat acclimation (45–55% for 60 min · day–1 at 40°C db, 30% relative humidity)]. Nine other male subjects underwent corresponding periods of control observation followed by heat acclimation. Before and after each treatment, subjects walked continuously on a treadmill (1.34 m · s–1, 2% grade) in a climatic chamber (40°C db, 30% relative humidity) for an average of 118 min (range 92–120 min) when wearing normal light combat clothing and for an average of 50 min (range 32–68 min) when wearing protective clothing resistant to nuclear, biological, and chemical agents. The heat storage was determined calorimetrically (by the balance of heat gains and losses) and thermometrically [by the conventional equations, using one or two set(s) of relative weightings for the rectal temperature (T re) to mean skin temperature sk of 4:1 and 4:1, 2:1 and 4:1, or 2:1 and 9:1 in thermoneutral and hot environments, respectively]. sk was calculated from 12-site measurements, weighted according to the regional distribution of body surface area and the first eigenvectors of principal component analysis. There were only minor differences (< 5%) between the heat storage values calculated by given weighting factors forT re and sk, whether the individual coefficients were derived from estimates of regional surface area or principal component methodologies. When wearing normal clothing, no significant differences were found between the two estimates of heat storage (calorimetry vs thermometry with an invariant relative weighting of 4:1) in any experimental condition, with one specific exception: when wearing protective clothing, thermometry underestimated the heat storage by 24–31%. This underestimation was attenuated by using two sets of relative weightings of 2: 1 and 4: 1 or 2: 1 and 9: 1. The results suggest that when subjects wearing protective clothing are transferred from thermoneutral to hot environments, the accuracy of thermometric estimates of heat storage can be improved by using two sets of weighting factors forT re and sk  相似文献

由于人体组织中存在血液对流传热和代谢产热,当皮肤表面绝热后,皮肤表面的温度将上升,体表温升值是人体组织中血液灌注率和动脉血温度的函数,根据实际测量的体表温升与时间的关系就可以测出活体组织的血液灌注率和动脉血温度。根据一维Pennes生物传热方程,推导出了体表绝热后人体组织中及皮肤表面温度分布的解析解,并对人体组织中的血液灌注率及动脉血温度进行了实验测量。由于测量过程中利用的只是皮肤表面的温度信息,无须引入外加热源,对人体组织完全不会造成损伤,亦避免了干扰人体组织的正常生理状态,整个测量系统也比较简单。  相似文献

The influence of temperature changes in the range of 25°C to –6°C on the time constants of Na activation (m) and inactivation (h) was studied in twitch muscle fibers and the node of Ranvier under voltage-clamp conditions. Arrhenius plots of m and h exhibit a change in activation enthalpy at temperatures below 10°C. Cooling and subsequent heating induce a hystersis in the temperature dependence of m and h Ni2+ and UO 2 2+ increase the hysteresis width. With fast temperature changes the gating kinetics relax to their new values more slowly than the temperature change. Hence, temperature must be changed more slowly than 5°C/min if an additional apparent hysteresis due simply to this relaxation is to be avoided. The data are explained by the hypothesis of a phase transition in the membrane lipids. This conception is favoured over a temperature-induced change in protein conformation, since the neutral local anaesthetic benzocaine shows use-dependent block as if low temperature restricted the access of the drug through the lipid phase to its receptor.Supported by grant NS 08174 from the U.S. Public Health Service and SFB 38 from Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to assess the relationship between lateralization of body image and right versus left vasomotor activity. Fifteen right-handed female patients suffering from idiopathic Raynaud's disease demonstrated a relationship between the extent of right lateralization of body image and bilateral digital skin temperature during a controlled temperature stress test. In addition, subjects showing a reliable right side awareness demonstrated more unilateral vasospastic attacks in their right hand than their left hand white subjects showing no clear right lateralization by body image reported more left hand attacks than right hand attacks. These results were taken as consistent with previous work on the relationship between skin conductance and lateralization of body image.  相似文献

Polycythaemia has been shown to improve physical performance, possibly due to increased arterial oxygen transport. Enhanced thermoregulatory function may also accompany this manipulation, since a greater proportion of the cardiac output becomes available for heat dissipation. We further examined this possibility in five trained men, who participated in three-phase heat stress trials (20 min rest, 20 min cycling at 30% peak power Wpeak and 20 min at 45% Wpeak at 38.3 (SEM 0.7)°C [relative humidity 41.4 (SEM 2.9)%]. Trials were performed during normocythaemia (control) and polycythaemia, obtained by reinfusion of autologous red blood cells and resulting in significant elevation of arterial oxygen transport. During the polycythaemic trials, the subjects demonstrated diminished thermal strain, as evidenced by a significant reduction in cardiac frequency (f c: 12 beats · min–1 lower throughout the test;P < 0.05), and reduced auditory canal temperatures (T ae) during the latter 20-min phase (P < 0.05). Forearm sweat onset was more rapid (363.0 compared to 1083.0 s;P < 0.05), and forearm sweat rate (. msw) sensitivity was elevated from 1.80 to 2.91 · mg · cm–2 · min–1 · °C–1 (P < 0.05). Foreheadm sw was depressed during the final 20 min, while forearmm sw was greater during all test phases, averaging 0.94 and 1.20 mg · cm–2 · min–1, respectively, over the 60 min. Skin blood flows for the upper back, upper arm and forearm were reduced (P < 0.05). Polycythaemia enhanced thermoregulation, through an elevation in forearm sweat sensitivity and.m sw, but not via increased cutaneous blood flow. These modifications occurred simultaneously with decreases inf c andT ae, resulting in greater thermal tolerance.  相似文献

We compare the effects on pup body weight and on maternal care of 4-hr separation from dam and littermates on postnatal Days 1 to 14 (early deprivation, ED) under different thermal and circadian conditions. ED was performed at either 21 degrees C (Cold), or 32 degrees C (Warm), and either during the light or dark phase. The comparison group was nonhandling (NH), either under a nonreversed (Light) or reversed (Dark) cycle. At weaning, Cold ED pups were of lower body weight than Warm ED pups, and Warm ED pups were of lower body weight than NH pups. Light and Dark ED pups received high care at reunion relative to NH, and Cold ED pups received higher care at several hours postreunion relative to Warm ED and NH pups. We propose that reduced pup weight and increased maternal care are short-term markers for the severity of Cold ED, and that this manipulation could therefore impact negatively on emotionality and cognition in adulthood.  相似文献
