Acne treatment with a 1,450 nm wavelength laser and cryogen spray cooling   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: A laser with a wavelength in the mid-IR range targeting the depth in skin where sebaceous glands are located in combination with cryogen spray cooling was evaluated for treatment of acne. In this non-ablative treatment, the laser energy heats the dermal volume encompassing sebaceous glands whereas the cold cryogen spray preserves the epidermis from thermal damage. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: Monte Carlo simulations and heat transfer calculations were performed to optimize the heating and cooling parameters. A variety of heating and cooling parameters were tested in an in vivo rabbit ear study to evaluate the histological effect of the device on sebaceous glands and skin. Similar experiments were performed on ex vivo human skin. A clinical study for the treatment of acne on backs of human males was also conducted. RESULTS: Monte Carlo simulations and heat transfer calculations resulted in a thermal damage profile that showed epidermal preservation and peak damage in the upper dermis where sebaceous glands are located. Ex vivo human skin histology confirmed the damage profile qualitatively. In vivo rabbit ear histology studies indicated short-term thermal alteration of sebaceous glands with epidermal preservation. In the human clinical study on the back, a statistically significant reduction in lesion count on the treated side compared to the control side was seen (p < 0.001). Side effects were transient and few. CONCLUSIONS: The studies reported here demonstrate the feasibility of treating acne using a photothermal approach with a mid-IR laser and cryogen cooling.  相似文献

目的 了解深圳市中央空调冷却塔军团菌污染现况及水环境的pH值、温度等因素对军团菌的影响。方法采集空调冷却塔水共132份进行军团菌病原学检测。结果所调查的公共场所中有33家空调冷却塔受到军团菌污染,污染率57.90%(33/57);有58个空调冷却塔检出军团菌,检出率43.94%(58/132)。结论深圳市中央空调冷却塔存在军团菌污染,已对暴露人群构成威胁,应采取有效防范措施。  相似文献

目的观察寒温并用法治疗慢性萎缩性胃炎的疗效。方法以张仲景半夏泻心汤为基本方,治疗慢性萎缩性胃炎42例(治疗组),并与西药常规治疗的32例作对照。结果治疗组临床症状疗效总有效率及病理疗效总有效率分别为92.86%、71.43%,对照组分别为78.12%、53.13%,2组比较有显著性差异(P〈0.05);治疗组胃痛、嗳气、食欲不振、神疲乏力等症状改善优于对照组(P〈0.05)。结论寒温并用法治疗慢性萎缩性胃炎疗效确切。  相似文献

Portal circulation and the function of hepatocytes during isolated organ perfusion were compared between the rat liver perfused immediately after extirpation and the liver perfused after core cooling and six hours of preservation. Nine rat livers were extirpated after core cooling, preserved for six hours in University of Winsconsin (UW) solution at 4°C and then were connected to a perfusion chamber (hypothermic preservation group: 6-hr HP group). Six rat livers were immediately connected to the perfusion chamber after extirpation (control group). During 60 minutes of isolated liver perfusion, both portal circulation and the function of hepatocytes were determined every 10 minutes. Portal vein resistance increased and portal blood flow decreased during the first 20 minutes of perfusion and then stabilized in both groups. Portal vein resistance was significantly higher and portal blood flow was significantly lower for the first 10 minutes of perfusion in the 6-hr HP group, compared to the control group. The function of hepatocytes, determined by the rate of elimination of ammonia, oxygen consumption, and glucose availability were depressed in the 6-hr HP group, compared to the control groups during isolated liver perfusion. However, there was no statistically significant difference of portal perfusion and the function of hepatocytes between the two groups at the end of perfusion. The results of the present study indicate that the rat liver can be preserved in a satisfactory condition for six hours by the use of hypothermic preservation, coupled with core cooling.  相似文献

Background One complication of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the liver is biliary duct damage. Intraductal cooling (IDC) has been proposed as a means of protection.Methods In the first experiment, designed to evaluate the influence of IDC on the RFA procedure per se and on lesion formation, lesions were created in vivo in pig liver with and without IDC. The RFA needle was placed with a 1.5-cm safety margin from the bile ducts. In the second experiment, designed to evaluate the potential protective effects of IDC, lesions were created close to a bile duct with and without IDC.Results With the safety margin, the RFA parameters and lesion size were not negatively affected by IDC. Microscopic examination revealed that IDC had a protective effect in most of the lesions created close to a bile duct.Conclusions The IDC procedure was feasible and had no negative effect on the RFA procedure or the lesions. However, the protective effect of IDC was not statistically significant (p = 0.12).  相似文献
