We report on 2 composite lymphomas occurring in elderly patients, morphologically characterized by the combination of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) unspecified and B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma. Immunohistochemistry provided objective confirmation of the coexistence of the 2 malignancies, as did molecular biology by revealing clonal T-cell receptor gamma and immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangements. One of the patients had no history of indolent lymphoma either at the personal and family level, whereas the other showed a strong familial predisposition, his mother and sister having suffered from B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Epstein-Barr virus was detected in the PTCL component of 1 case, but was negative in the other. To the best of our knowledge, the simultaneous occurrence of PTCL unspecified and B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma is an exceptional event; the possible pathogenetic correlations between the 2 neoplasms are discussed.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that in vitro exposure to single compounds released from composite resins may induce cell death. In the present study the effects of eluates from commercially available composite resins used for direct or indirect restorations were evaluated on the cell cycle progression and type of cell death of cultured WEHI 13 var fibroblasts. Cells exposed to eluates of the materials were assessed for cytotoxicity by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay for cell death, for cell cycle profiles by flow cytometry, for caspase-3 biochemically and by immunocytochemistry, and for morphological changes by fluorescence microscopy with acridine orange. The direct composite resin eluates induced extensive apoptosis, followed by secondary necrosis. This was accompanied by cell enlargement, micromultinucleation, chromatin disintegration, cell cycle arrest at different phases, and caspase-3 activation. The composites for indirect restorations were much less cytotoxic at all biological end-points investigated. The findings suggest that composite resins used for direct and indirect dental restorations differ in their cytotoxic potential and their ability to affect basic cellular functions. This underlines the impact of improved polymerization with respect to their biologic behavior.  相似文献

The surface smoothness of composite restorations affects not only their esthetic appearance but also other properties. Thus, rough surfaces can lead to staining, plaque accumulation, gingival irritation, recurrent caries, abrasiveness, wear kinetics, and tactile perception by the patient. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of irrigation during the finishing and polishing of composite resin restorations. A systematic search of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Clinical Trials databases was conducted. Papers published up to 11 February 2021 were considered. The quality of each study was assessed using the modified Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials checklist for reporting in vitro studies on dental materials. No clinical studies were identified. Six in vitro studies were included, reporting changes in physical and esthetic properties. After performing a methodological quality assessment of the studies, some limitations were identified, the main limitation being the heterogeneous methodology across studies. The evidence resulting from this systematic review did not favor either wet or dry finishing/polishing procedures. There is a clear need for well-designed studies focusing on the comparison of dry/wet finishing/polishing with standard protocols to evaluate the differences among different materials and methods.  相似文献

Dentin and enamel loss related to trauma or especially caries is one of the most common pathological issues in dentistry that requires restoration of the teeth by using materials with appropriate properties. The composite resins represent dental materials with significant importance in today’s dentistry, presenting important qualities, including their mechanical behavior and excellent aesthetics. This paper focuses on the saliva interactions with these materials and on their biocompatibility, which is continuously improved in the new generations of resin-based composites. Starting from the elements involved on the molecular landscape of the dental caries process, the paper presents certain strategies for obtaining more advanced new dental composite resins, as follows: suppression of oral biofilm acids formation, promotion of remineralization process, counteraction of the proteolytic attack, and avoidance of cytotoxic effects; the relation between dental composite resins and salivary oxidative stress biomarkers is also presented in this context.  相似文献

Objective

To test the following hypotheses: (1) degree of conversion (DC) and polymerization stress (PS) increase with composite temperature (2) reduced light-exposure applied to pre-heated composites produces similar conversion as room temperature with decreased PS.

Methods

Composite specimens (diameter: 5 mm, height: 2 mm) were tested isothermally at 22 °C (control), 40 °C, and 60 °C using light-exposures of 5 or 20 s (control). DC was accessed 5 min after light initiation by FTIR at the specimen bottom surface. Maximum and final PS were determined, also isothermally, for 5 min on a universal testing machine. Non-isothermal stress was also measured with composite maintained at 22 °C or 60 °C, and irradiated for 20 s at 30 °C. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA/Tukey and Student's t-test (α = 5%).

Results

Both DC and isothermal maximum stress increased with temperature (p < 0.001) and exposure duration (p < 0.001). Isothermal maximum/final stress (MPa) were 3.4 ± 2.0b/3.4 ± 2.0A (22 °C), 3.7 ± 1.5b/3.6 ± 1.4A (40 °C) and 5.1 ± 2.0a/4.0 ± 1.6A (60 °C). Conversion values (%) were 39.2 ± 7.1c (22 °C), 50.0 ± 5.4b (40 °C) and 58.5 ± 5.7a (60 °C). The reduction of light exposure duration (from 20 s to 5 s) with pre-heated composite yielded the same or significantly higher conversion (%) than control (22 °C, 20 s/control: 45.4 ± 1.8b, 40 °C, 5 s s: 45.1 ± 0.5b, 60 °C, 5 s s: 53.7 ± 2.7a, p < 0.01). Non-Isothermal conditions showed significantly higher stress for 60 °C than 22 °C (in MPa, maximum: 4.7 ± 0.5 and 3.7 ± 0.4, final: 4.6 ± 0.6 and 3.6 ± 0.4, respectively).Clinical significance: Increasing composite temperature allows for reduced exposure duration and lower polymerization stress (both maximum and final) while maintaining or increasing degree of conversion.  相似文献

Bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (bis-GMA) and urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) are usually combined with low-viscosity monomers to obtain more desirable viscosity, handling characteristics and general properties. The present study determined the flexural strength (FS), flexural modulus (FM), diametral tensile strength (DTS), and hardness (HV) of five matrices and composites based on these resins. The polymerization shrinkage stress (PSS) was also studied for the composites. The polymer matrices were formed using bis-GMA and UDMA. TEGDMA, HEMA and HDDMA acted as co-monomers. The composites had 45 wt.% of filler content. The highest FS and FM were obtained from the UDMA/bis-GMA/TEGDMA/HEMA matrix and the composite (matrix + filler). The best DTS values were obtained from the UDMA/bis-GMA/HEMA matrix and the composite. One of the lowest values of FS, FM, and DTS was obtained from the UDMA/bis-GMA/HDDMA matrix and the composite. All the composites demonstrated similar hardness values. The lowest polymerization shrinkage stress was observed for the UDMA/bis-GMA/TEGDMA/HEMA composite, and the highest PSS was observed for the UDMA/bis-GMA/TEGDMA/HDDMA composite. The addition of HEMA had a positive effect on the properties of the tested materials, which may be related to the improved mobility of the bis-GMA and UDMA monomers.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To characterize the microstructure and composition of two different composites, and to determine their influence on the physical properties and fracture behavior. METHODS: The microstructure and composition of a microhybrid (Filtek Z250-Z2) and a nanofill (Filtek Supreme-SU) composite were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Filler wt% was determined by thermogravimetric analysis. Hardness (H) and degree of conversion (DC) were evaluated at top and bottom surfaces of 2-mm thick specimens, and the dynamic elastic modulus (E) was determined with ultrasonic waves. Bar specimens (n=30) were subjected to flexure loading and flexural strength (sigmaf) was calculated (MPa). Fractographic analysis (FA) was performed to determine the fracture origin (c) for calculation of fracture toughness (KIc), and these results were compared to those from the single edge notch beam (SENB) method. Results were statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA, Student's t-test and Weibull analysis (alpha=0.05). RESULTS: Z2 had higher filler wt%, H, E and DC at 2-mm depth as compared with SU. The fracture behavior (sigmaf and KIc) and the structural reliability (m) of the composites were similar. Results of KIc tested by SENB or calculated from fracture surfaces from flexure testing were similar. SIGNIFICANCE: The microstructural organization of the composites determines their physical properties, in spite of the similar filler content. In contrast, the microstructure did not influence the fracture behavior and the structural reliability of these highly filled composites. FA was shown to be a reliable method for determining the KIc of composites.  相似文献
