OBJECTIVE: Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy or a Stem Cell Transplantation (SCT) are in need of information about their disease, treatment options and side effects. Patient education usually has to be given within limited time. Under these circumstances, patients may find it difficult to completely understand and to retain the information given. METHODS: As a supplement to standard information methods we developed an interactive CD-ROM with information on SCT. This CD-ROM provides both medical information and more subjective patients' experiences. Part one provides information regarding the treatment course from diagnosis through to post-discharge care. The second part consists of interviews with former patients and describes their experiences. As the system is interactive, it can be utilised according to the patient's individual preferences. The CD-ROM comprises audio, video, animations, pictures, and text. Printing of certain sections is optional. The technical format of the CD-ROM makes it relatively simple to utilise the information and to make it suitable for other institutions or even other treatments. In this preliminary study the acceptability of the interactive CD-ROM by patients undergoing a SCT is described. RESULTS: Patients' overall evaluations of the interactive CD-ROM were highly positive. For example, 90.2% (N=51) found it interesting, clear, useful and valued getting information by means of a CD-ROM. Most patients would recommend the interactive CD-ROM to other patients in the same situation. CONCLUSION: The content of the CD-ROM on SCT as well as the computer-based interactive method are well accepted by patients. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Computer-based education may enhance patient education and thus the quality of patient care. We must now establish the program's effectiveness. Moreover, plans have been developed to disseminate the information on SCT over the Internet. Future development of comparable programs and their evaluation should be encouraged to promote the well-being of cancer patients. 相似文献

CD-ROM programs for orthodontic case presentation and biomechanics that demonstrate malocclusions and treatment in a highly visual, animated format are commercially available. The purpose of this study was to determine the usefulness of two of these programs in enhancing case-based learning in a seminar setting. Junior year predoctoral dental students were provided with orthodontic records of patients and asked to work up the patients and present the problem list, diagnosis, treatment objectives and treatment strategies in class. One-half of the class used the CD-ROMs to determine treatment strategies, while the other half of the class used a literature search. The CD-ROM Group used computer technology in class to present the treatment. Effectiveness was evaluated using a case-based examination and a student survey. Results indicated no difference on the examination, but a preference by the students for the use of the CD-ROMs both in researching possible treatment and for the in-class presentations. The commercially available CD-ROMs appear to be a useful way of enhancing student interest in orthodontic case-based seminars, but may have little effect on actual learning. 相似文献

Holism is claimed to be the signifying feature that sets women's health apart from traditional approaches to health care. As such, articles published in the nursing literature about women's health would, one might expect, reflect the centrality of holism to women's health care nursing. The findings of a study which examined the content and the focus of articles published about women's health in journals indexed by CINAHL in the period 1993–1995 challenge this assumption. It was found that women's health is a taken-for-granted notion and is used interchangeably and synonymously to refer to reproductive health, maternal health, neonatal health, family health and (hetero)sexual health. Confounding the view that holism is foundational to a women's health perspective, the papers forming the study's sample largely depict issues to do with women's health from a narrow and stereotypical perspective and with a bio-medical focus. Women were referred to as fragmented bodies, body parts and diseases, and were depicted as being passive and silent. By contrast, the voice (and the activity) of nurses and nursing's imperative to intervene was clearly discernible. 相似文献

目的:探讨腰椎间盘突出症术后患者的康复训练方法,以提高康复训练的效果,保证患者得到及时、有效的健康指导。方法:将2008年1月至2009年5月的54例患者按随机数字表法分成光盘指导组26例,口头指导组28例。光盘指导组采用自制功能锻炼光盘进行健康指导,向患者加以演示,形象直观的对患者进行功能锻炼指导。而口头指导组采用传统口头宣教方法进行健康指导。结果:光盘指导组接受自制功能锻炼光盘后对护理工作的满意度从78.6%提高到100%,患者掌握腰背肌锻炼动作有明显效果,术后自理能力及肌力均有明显提高,下床时间早,疼痛减轻。结论:功能锻炼光盘通俗易懂,易于被患者接受,对促进患者康复有良好的效果。 相似文献
