Introduction: A range of devices are available for delivering and monitoring home oxygen therapy (HOT). Guidelines do not give indications for the choice of the delivery device but recommend the use of an ambulatory system in subjects on HOT whilst walking.
Areas covered: We provide a clinical overview of HOT and review traditional and newer delivery and monitoring devices for HOT. Despite relevant technology advancements, clinicians, faced with many challenges when they prescribe oxygen therapy, often remain familiar to traditional devices and continuous flow delivery of oxygen. Some self-filling delivery-less devices could increase the users’ level of independence with ecological advantage and, perhaps, reduced cost. Some newer portable oxygen concentrators are being available, but more work is needed to understand their performances in different diseases and clinical settings. Pulse oximetry has gained large diffusion worldwide and some models permit long-term monitoring. Some closed-loop portable monitoring devices are also able to adjust oxygen flow automatically in accordance with the different needs of everyday life. This might help to improve adherence and the practice of proper oxygen titration that has often been omitted because difficult to perform and time-consuming.
Expert commentary: The prescribing physicians should know the characteristics of newer devices and use technological advancements to improve the practice of HOT. 相似文献
The indwelling urethral catheter remains an integral part of contemporary medical care, despite its significant design shortcomings. Urethral catheterisation is responsible for well-recognised complications including catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), catheter-associated urethral injury (CAUI), catheter blockage, and bladder mucosal irritation. In this narrative review, we provide an update on current innovations in urethral catheter design, aimed at safeguarding against these complications. There is an obvious need to improve catheter technology and urologists should support the translation of innovations into clinical practice. 相似文献
Currently, information about airway assessment and tracheal intubation is communicated verbally or in writing. Google Glass can record this information in real time with minimal disruption to work flow, using standard operating room lighting. 相似文献
To investigate the factors affecting employees'' knowledge sharing intention, knowledge sharing behavior, and innovation behavior of the four top-ranked university hospitals in South Korea.
Methods
Data were collected from employees at three university hospitals in Seoul, Korea and one university hospital in Gyeonggi-Do, Korea through self-administered questionnaires. The survey was conducted from May 29, 2013 to July 17, 2013. A total of 779 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS version 18.0 and AMOS version 18.0.
Results
Factors affecting hospital employees'' knowledge sharing intention, knowledge sharing behavior, and innovation behavior are reciprocity, behavioral control, and trust.
Conclusion
It is important to select employees who have a propensity for innovation and continuously educate them about knowledge management based on trust. 相似文献
