Neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation has been shown to attenuate the severity of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS). Central to the future success of NSC transplantation in MS is the ability of transplanted cells to migrate from the site of transplantation to relevant foci of disease. Using magnetically labeled mouse neurospheres and human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived neurospheres, we applied serial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess the biodynamics of transplanted cell migration in a chronic mouse EAE model. Magnetic labeling did not affect the in vitro and in vivo characteristics of cells as multipotential precursors. Cell migration occurred along white matter (WM) tracts (especially the corpus callosum (CC), fimbria, and internal capsule), predominantly early in the acute phase of disease, and in an asymmetric manner. The distance of cell migration correlated well with clinical severity of disease and the number of microglia in the WM tracts, supporting the notion that inflammatory signals promote transplanted cell migration. This study shows for the first time that hESC-derived neural precursors also respond to tissue signals in an MS model, similarly to rodent cells. The results are directly relevant for designing and optimizing cell therapies for MS, and achieving a better understanding of in vivo cell dynamics and cell-tissue interactions. 相似文献

Standard imaging techniques using a curved linear array echoendocope are summarized to facilitate the attainment of expertise in endoscopic ultrasonography and endoscopic ultrasound‐guided fine needle aspiration, and to promote the widespread use of this diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Typical images of the mediastinal organs, the bilio‐pancreatic systems and neighboring organs by scanning from the esophagus, stomach, duodenal bulb, and descending portion of the duodenum, are shown in a sequential manner. A method for rapidly producing velocity images is presented. This sequence combines a modified bipolar gradient pulse to magnitude encode the velocity with the rotating ultra-fast imaging sequence (RUFIS) to image the encoded spins. Velocity encoding is done in 3 msec, and RUFIS acquires 32 projections in 8 msec. The method is applied to turbulent jets associated with a 75% stenosis in a 15-mm inner diameter glass pipe. Data is acquired upstream and downstream from the stenosis for Reynolds numbers from 560 to 3750. In addition, a robust method of reconstructing the unobserved short time region of a free induction decay is presented and incorporated into the image processing. 相似文献

We report a case of human African trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. After the febrile period of parasite dissemination, the patient had meningeal involvement but normal CT. MRI showed the appearances
of meningitis. After two periods of arsenical treatment, a severe encephalopathy occurred suggesting post-therapeutic reactive
encephalitis (PTRE). Nevertheless, T2-weighted MRI showed no oedema, but focal bilateral high signal areas in the white matter.
PTRE was excluded and a third course of treatment was undertaken. The lesions progressively disappeared.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has greatly facilitated morphologic evaluation of spinal cord lesions. Eleven cases representative of inflammatory, demyelinating, neoplastic and vascular diseases, are presented which illustrate and summarize important abnormal features in spinal cord imaging, particularly MR findings. Recently, specialised techniques such as MR angiography, fat-inhibiting methods, dynamic MRI and functional imaging have been developed. These methods have facilitated not only lesion diagnosis but also qualitative assessment, and are being used to analyze pathophysiology. Comprehensive diagnoses based on such modalities may be important in determining indications for surgery or defining the extent of surgery or the intensity of other treatments. 相似文献

The effect of a constant isoprenaline infusion on the venous platelet count, splenic blood flow and intrasplenic platelet kinetics was investigated in 6 healthy male volunteers. The study was carried out using autologous 111In-labelled platelets and dynamic gamma camera imaging of the initial distribution of radiolabelled platelets between blood and splenic platelet pool. The isoprenaline infusions were administered i.v. over 30 min in a dose of 0.03 micrograms/kg/min. These infusions significantly increased the splenic blood flow and the size of the exchangeable splenic platelet pool. Concomitantly, there was a decrease of labelled as well as unlabelled platelets in the peripheral blood. The intrasplenic platelet transit time was not affected. Before start of infusion, the splenic blood flow was 6.1 +/- 2.9 (SD) % of total blood volume/min and the splenic platelet pool size 34 +/- 9 (SD) %. During infusion the corresponding values were 8.7 +/- 3.9 (SD) and 41 +/- 11 (SD), respectively. It is concluded that an i.v. infusion of isoprenaline enhances splenic pooling of platelets as a result of an increase in splenic blood flow. 相似文献

Lhermitte-Duclos disease (dysplastic gangliocytoma of the cerebellum) is a rare pseudo-neoplastic disorder of the cerebellum with typical MRI findings. A 25-year-old man presenting with progressive neck pain, dizziness, and impaired vision is reported. CT and MRI revealed a left cerebellar haemispheric mass and obstructive hydrocephalus. Lhermitte-Duclos disease was histologically confirmed after surgical removal of the lesion. The typical MRI appearance of a nonenhancing haemispheric cerebellar mass with preservation and exaggeration of the normal gyral pattern allows pre-operative diagnosis of this condition. The literature is reviewed and clinical presentation, radiology and histopathology are discussed. 相似文献
