The feasibility of simultaneous independent measurements of impedance variations in the right and left apex and base of the lungs using the technique of multielectrode impedance plethysmography (MIPG) was investigated. To obtain independent impedance measurements in each region, high impedance sensitivity areas must be localised by weighting the impedance sensitivity distribution. 12 planar coaxial-type electrodes were attached on the right and left upper, middle and lower sites of the anterior and posterior chest walls. Currents of identical absolute values and differing polarities were simultaneously applied to neightbouring electrodes and voltage measurements were carried out sagittally at the right and left upper and lower sites of the chest walls. The effect of weighting the impedance sensitivity distribution was verified through experimental studies on mongrel dogs. The methods utilised for the induction of regional physiological conductivity changes were selective ventilation and selective indicator infusion into the pulmonary vasculature. The detected impedance variation showed reasonably indenpendent responses which were consistent with our expectations from the results of the computer simulation.  相似文献

In a multi-channel divided attention task, 8 subjects listened to a sequence of tones delivered at one of two stimulation rates and at one of three spatial locations (channels): left ear, right ear, and an apparent position midway between left and right ears. Subjects were instructed to monitor one, two, or all three channels and detect slightly louder target tones in the monitored channel(s). Seven listening conditions were used, three in which subjects monitored one channel and ignored the others, another three in which two channels were simultaneously monitored and the third ignored, and a further condition in which all three channels were monitored. With a high stimulation rate, the N1 component of the vertex evoked potential (latency 70–130 msec) in both attended and unattended channels significantly decreased in amplitude with an increase in the number of monitored channels. At the same time, N1 was significantly larger when a channel was attended than when it was ignored. There were no significant effects under slow stimulation rate conditions. Like N1, target detectability (d') declined with increasing monitoring load only with a fast stimulation rate, but the correspondence between these two measures was not upheld in every condition. The results indicate that with a high “information load” in a multi-channel task, selective attention increases the vertex response in all attended channels, while divided attention decreases the response in both attended and unattended channels, thus suggesting that the N1 component of the auditory evoked potential reflects the apparent division of attentional capacity among competing auditory inputs.  相似文献

The prediction from Sokolov's (1960) theory that, following OR habituation, size of OR return is proportional to the amount of difference between the new stimulus and the habituating stimulus was tested using an auditory stimulus varying in frequency and intensity. Five Ss were allocated to each of 16 conditions, three conditions involving changes in frequency, three involving changes in intensity, nine involving changes in both frequency and intensity, with one control condition involving a repetition of the habituating stimulus. Following habituation of the GSR component of the OR to a criterion of response failure for three successive trials, magnitude of GSR under the 16 conditions was measured. Contrary to Sokolov's theory, only increase in intensity had a significantly different effect on OR return. More importantly, it was found that Ss habituating rapidly to the initial stimulus were less likely to show OR return to stimulus change. It was concluded that individual differences in habituation rate may be more important than stimulus difference effects in selective habituation.  相似文献

Patients with unilateral neglect following right hemisphere damage may have difficulty in moving towards contralesional targets. To test the hypothesis that this impairment arises from competing motor programs triggered by irrelevant ipsilesional stimuli, we examined 16 right hemisphere patients, eight with left visual neglect and eight without, in addition to eight healthy control subjects. In experiment 1 subjects performed sequences of movements using their right hand to targets on the contralesional or ipsilesional side of the responding limb. The locations of successive targets in each sequence were either predictable or unpredictable. In separate blocks of trials, targets appeared either alone or with a simultaneous distractor located at the immediately preceding target location. Neglect patients were significantly slower to execute movements to contralesional targets, but only for unpredictable movements and in the presence of a concurrent ipsilesional distractor. In contrast, healthy controls and right hemisphere patients without neglect showed no directional asymmetries of movement execution. In experiment 2 subjects were required to interrupt a predictable, reciprocating sequence of leftward and rightward movements in order to move to an occasional, unpredictable target that occurred either in the direction opposite to that expected, or in the same direction but twice the extent. Neglect patients were significantly slower in reprogramming the direction and extent of movements towards contralesional versus ipsilesional targets, and they also made significantly more errors when executing such movements. Right hemisphere patients without neglect showed a similar bias in reprogramming direction (but not extent) for contralesional targets, whereas healthy controls showed no directional asymmetry in either condition. On the basis of these findings we propose that neglect involves a competitive bias in favour of motor programs for actions directed towards ipsilesional versus contralesional events. We suggest that programming errors and increased latencies for contralesional movements arise because the damaged right hemisphere can no longer effectively inhibit the release of inappropriate motor programs towards ipsilesional events. 目的:研究选择性雌激素受体调节剂(SERM)雷洛昔芬(raloxifene)对血管内皮细胞雌激素应答元件(ERE)转录活性的影响。方法:首先构建ERE荧光素酶报告基因质粒(ERE-TK-Luc),然后采用真核细胞转染技术将ERE-TK-Luc与内参照质粒PRL-SV40一起转染体外培养的血管内皮细胞,检测raloxifene刺激的转染细胞荧光素酶的相对活性,与未用药的转染细胞进行比较。并同时采用raloxifene与雌二醇(E2)共同处理细胞,观察raloxifene对E2作用的影响。结果:在raloxifene处理的转染细胞中荧光素酶表达量低于未用药的转染细胞,raloxifene浓度为10-7mol/L时更明显(P<0.01);E2可使转染细胞荧光素酶表达量明显高于未给药组(P<0.01),而raloxifene与E2同时处理则细胞荧光素酶表达水平与对照组相近(P<0.01)。结论:Raloxifene对血管内皮细胞ERE转录活性有抑制作用。  相似文献

Selective cerebral perfusion (SCP) is a better method than hypothermic circulatory arrest for brain protection in aortic arch surgery because of fewer time limitations; however; it is more troublesome during surgery. We developed a new catheter for SCP, the SP Stud catheter, with a rib-surface balloon to reduce slipping to eliminate the need for snaring or clamping. To evaluate the slipping resistance of the new catheter, we compared it with two different balloon catheters; a Foley balloon catheter with a smooth-surface balloon as long as the SP Stud catheter, and a Retro-TH catheter with a smooth-surface balloon of discoid shape half as long as the SP Stud catheter. The “draw-strength”, which refers to the slipping resistance, was measured in 20 autopsy carotid arteries in the three groups. The average draw-strengths of SP Stud catheter, foley balloon catheter, and Retro-TH catheter were 92.3±4.0, 20.8 ±1.5, and 17.9±0.8g, respectively, in sclerotic carotid arteries. The SP Stud catheter demonstrated approximately four times more resistance to slipping than the Foley balloon or Retro-TH catheters. The SP Stud catheter demonstrated a higher slipping resistance than conventional catheters, which may allow selective cerebral perfusion without snaring or clamping the carotid arteries, minimize the change of cerebral embolism, and clear the operative field.  相似文献

Summary The influence of the excitotoxin kainic acid (KA) on cultivated explants of rat hippocampus was investigated. Addition of 3 M KA to the culture medium over 24–48 h induced a destruction of the pyramidal cells in the CA3 region, whereas the CA1 pyramidal cells and the granule cells were left undamaged. Higher concentrations (10–100 M) of KA destroyed also the latter cell groups. The selectivity of the KA lesion at 3 M was further indicated by the fact that the acetylcholinesterase-positive neurons in the hippocampus were not destroyed through KA administration and that the stereoisomer dihydrokainic acid was ineffective in inducing lesions. Application of tetrodotoxin did not protect the CA3 pyramidal cells from KA lesion, whereas -glutamylaminomethylsulphonic acid (GAMS) only offered a very small, statistically not significant, protection. Baclofen protected the cultures slightly from KA lesions but not when added together with GAMS. Codon volatility is defined as the proportion of a codon's point-mutation neighbors that encode different amino acids. The cumulative volatility of a gene in relation to its associated genome was recently reported to be an indicator of selection pressure. We used this approach to measure selection on all available full-length HIV-1 subtype B genomes in the Los Alamos HIV Sequence Database, and compared these estimates against those obtained via established likelihood- and distance-based comparative methods. Volatility failed to correlate with the results of any of the comparative methods demonstrating that it is not a reliable indicator of selection pressure.  相似文献

BackgroundSurgical staging in endometrial cancer includes a systematic lymphadenectomy with significant morbidity, although its therapeutic role is unclear. Sentinel lymph node (SLN) study is a less morbid alternative to identify nodes most likely to be metastatic, permitting selective removal and thus reducing morbidity without compromising oncological safety. This study was done using blue dye single labelling to study the feasibility and utility in identifying SLN in early disease.MethodsTwenty-two patients of early-stage low-risk disease during surgical staging underwent cervical injection of methylene blue, SLN mapping, and sampling as per the standard algorithm, followed by a systematic lymphadenectomy in all cases. SLN were submitted separately for ultrastaging (US).ResultsTwenty patients underwent the procedure, and SLN could be identified in 18 patients with an overall mapping rate of 90% with a bilateral mapping rate of 70%, and a negative mapping rate of 10%. 57 SLN were identified along with two suspicious non-sentinel nodes and 11 were metastatic on US with a sensitivity of 66.7% and NPV of 87.5%. All patients with metastatic nodes, however, could be identified by applying the standard SLN algorithm for sampling.ConclusionSLN mapping algorithm with blue dye single labelling in early endometrial cancer, by identifying LN most likely to be metastatic enabling their selective removal may help avoid routine lymphadenectomies without compromising oncological safety. The procedure is simple and can be practiced at all centres and can also aid pathologists by pinpointing the likely metastatic nodes after a selective or complete lymphadenectomy.  相似文献
