Quantitative data of fetal cortical folding and its developmental changes supply important information in the estimation of fetal age and assessment of brain maturation, so the increasing tendencies of cortical growth and its folding conditions at the beginning of the second and third trimesters with post-mortem Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) were analyzed. 131 fetal specimens of 14–40 weeks gestational age (GA) were selected and scanned with 3.0 T MR. Then the length of folded cortical margin (LFCM) and length of unfolded cortical margin (LUCM) were measured by Photoshop and ZoomMagic software. Degrees of cortical folding (DCF) were calculated by means of (LFCM − LUCM)/LFCM. Growth curves were obtained between the 3 above values and GA, and significant differences in age stages, hemispheres and genders were analyzed. The relationship between LFCM in centimeters, DCF and GA in weeks was described by two exponential growth curves [LFCM = 5.325 exp(0.079GA); DCF = 11.890 exp(0.043GA)]. The curves increased rapidly after 26 weeks GA, which could be recognized as a cut-off point of fetal cortical and sulcal development. LUCM and GA were described by a logarithmic growth curve which slowed down after 26 weeks GA [LUCM = 30.580 Ln(GA) − 72.490]. Significant differences of the 3 values before and after 26 weeks GA (p < 0.01), but not any in hemispheres and genders were noticed. These results, which may be valuable in assessing normal brain development and can serve as a model in clinical settings, indicate that the cerebral volume first increases and is then followed by increases of the surface area. 相似文献

Patients suffering from frontal variant of frontotemporal dementia (fv-FTD) undergo autobiographical amnesia encompassing all time periods. We previously demonstrated in a group of 20 fv-FTD patients that this impairment involved deficits in executive function and semantic memory for all periods as well as new episodic learning and behavioural changes for the most recent period covering the last 12 months [Matuszewski, V., Piolino, P., de la Sayette, V., Lalevée, C., Pélerin, A., Dupuy, B., et al. (2006). Retrieval mechanisms for autobiographical memories: Insights from the frontal variant of frontotemporal dementia, Neuropsychologia, 44, 2386-2397]. The aim of the present study was to unravel the neural bases of this impairment by mapping in a subgroup of patients correlations between resting-state brain glucose utilization measured by FDG-PET and measures of autobiographical memory (AM) using the TEMPau task which is designed to gauge personal event recollection across five life time periods. Like in our previous report, the group of patients was impaired regardless of time periods compared to healthy subjects providing generic memories instead of event specific sensory-perceptual-affective details, i.e., episodic memories. New data showed that the patients were also impaired in sense of reliving and self-perspective during retrieval. The cognitivo-metabolic correlations between the AM score and resting normalized FDG-Uptake were computed using statistical parametric mapping (SPM2) and controlling for age and dementia severity. They revealed that AM deficits were mainly subserved by the dysfunction of left-sided orbitofrontal and also temporal neocortical areas whatever the period. Additional analysis showed that specific memories were associated with left orbitofrontal areas whereas generic memories were mainly associated with the left temporal pole. This study supports the view that fv-FTD patients undergo a breakdown of generative processes which relies regardless of the remoteness on the left orbitofrontal cortex and temporal neocortex to gain access to AM. 相似文献

Schizophrenia is a heterogeneous clinical condition that may reflect a variety of biological processes. In particular, treatment-resistant (TR) schizophrenia may have a distinct neurobiological substrate. Within the context of clinical data, a simultaneous study with different imaging techniques could help to elucidate differences in cerebral substrates among schizophrenia patients with different responses to treatment. In the present work we used a set of biological data (basal and longitudinal volumetry, and P300 event-related potential measurements) to compare TR and treatment-responsive chronic schizophrenia patients with healthy controls. The TR patients showed higher baseline clinical scores, a more severe basal profile of brain alterations, as well as a different outcome as regards to volume deficits. These data support the notion that biological substrates vary among groups of different psychotic patients, even when they have the same diagnosis, and that those substrates may be related to the response to treatment. 相似文献

The aim of this study is to fabricate and test a novel flexible flat cable antenna (FFCA) for MRI of the knee at different flexion angles. The FFCA was made of a flat cable, a tuning/matching circuit and a signal transmission line. To test its feasibility and validity, in vitro and in vivo experiments were carried out on a 3.0 T MR scanner. The in vitro experiment suggested that the proposed FFCA could achieve a high signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) of 336, while the SNR of an eight‐channel knee coil was 291, and phantom images from the FFCA are homogeneously distributed. In the in vivo experiment, the FFCA had a higher SNR of 169 in the region of interest and more than 48.5 cm of longitudinal coverage, while the corresponding values for the commercial coil were 153 and 22.5 cm. Finally, five sagittal knee images at different flexion angles were acquired. The FFCA could acquire satisfactory knee images at different flexion angles, with the advantages of simplicity, low cost, large field of view and high SNR. It is crucial to develop dual or multi-modal self-imaging embolic microspheres to evaluate the effects of transcatheter arterial embolization therapy of tumor. However, the preparation of such hybrid microspheres always involved in multiple steps or complicated conditions. Here, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hybrid microspheres with dual-modal T1/T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have been prepared based on microfluidic technique in one step. Gd2O3 and Fe3O4 nanoparticles with a size of ~5 nm act as T1- and T2-weighted MRI contrast agents, respectively, which are simultaneously in-situ synthesized in the PVA matrix via the reaction of metal ions and alkali with PVA chains as a soft template. Meanwhile, these metallic-oxide nanoparticles act as cross-linker to gelatinize the PVA droplets to obtain nano-in-micro PVA microspheres in one step. This procedure is simple, economic and feasible. The obtained nano-in-micro PVA microspheres show good magnetothermal effect, enhanced T1- and T2-weighted MRI and embolization effect. 相似文献

The emergence of chemical imaging (CI) has gifted spectroscopy an additional dimension. Chemical imaging systems complement chemical identification by acquiring spatially located spectra that enable visualization of chemical compound distributions. Such techniques are highly relevant to pharmaceutics in that the distribution of excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredient informs not only a product's behavior during manufacture but also its physical attributes (dissolution properties, stability, etc.). The rapid image acquisition made possible by the emergence of focal plane array detectors, combined with publication of the Food and Drug Administration guidelines for process analytical technology in 2001, has heightened interest in the pharmaceutical applications of CI, notably as a tool for enhancing drug quality and understanding process. Papers on the pharmaceutical applications of CI have been appearing in steadily increasing numbers since 2000. The aim of the present paper is to give an overview of infrared, near-infrared and Raman imaging in pharmaceutics. Sections 2 and 3 deal with the theory, device set-ups, mode of acquisition and processing techniques used to extract information of interest. Section 4 addresses the pharmaceutical applications. 相似文献
