There are many shortcomings of current animal models as surrogates of hepatocellular carcinoma that handicap preclinical testing of embolization agents. The present study explores the feasibility of using the woodchuck (Marmota monax) as an animal model for the testing of novel embolization agents. Four woodchucks underwent magnetic resonance imaging, angiography, and left lobar hepatic artery particle embolization. Percutaneous access, arteriography, and lobar embolization were successful in all animals, with angiographic stasis obtained in the target vessel with minimal reflux of embolic material. These results support the feasibility of the woodchuck as an animal model for preclinical testing of embolization agents.  相似文献

Objectives

In order to reveal the etiology and pathophysiology of trichotillomania (TTM), it is necessary to investigate which brain regions are involved in TTM, but limited knowledge exists regarding the neurobiology of TTM and the available functional neuroimaging studies of TTM are little. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the specific brain regions involved in the pathophysiology of TTM with symptom provocation task using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) for children and adolescents with TTM.

Methods

Pediatric subjects who met the DSM-IV TR criteria for TTM (n = 9) and age-, sex-, handedness-, IQ matched healthy controls(HC) (n = 10), ages 9 to 17 years, were recruited for two fMRI experiments; symptom provocation of Visual Only (VO) and Visual and Tactile (VT). They were scanned while viewing two alternating blocks of symptom provocation (S) and neutral (N) movies.

Results

Random effects between-group analysis revealed significant activation in left temporal cortex(including middle and superior temporal gyrus), dorsal posterior cingulate gyrus, and putamen for the contrast S > N in TTM subjects versus HC subjects during the VO session. And TTM subjects demonstrated higher activity in the precuneus and dorsal posterior cingulate gyrus to the contrast S > N during the VT session.

Conclusions

This study provided an objective whole-brain-based analysis that directed researchers to areas that were abnormal in TTM. Using the symptom provocation tasks, we found significant differences in regional brain function between pediatric TTM and HC subjects. However, in the face of modest statistical power, our preliminary findings in TTM need to be replicated in a larger sample. As the functional neuroanatomic circuits involved in TTM remain largely unexplored, future functional neuroimaging studies using other various paradigms may help investigate the neuroanatomic abnormalities of TTM.  相似文献

Galantamine is a cholinesterase inhibitor and allosteric potentiating ligand modulating presynaptic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors that is used in the treatment of Alzheimer disease (AD). The purpose of this study was to determine if galantamine treatment would result in detectable hippocampal metabolite changes that correlated with changes in cognition, as measured by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Alzheimer Disease Assessment Scale-cognitive subscale (ADAS-cog). Short echo-time proton magnetic resonance (MR) spectra were acquired from within the right hippocampus of ten patients using a 4 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. Spectra were used to quantify absolute metabolite levels for N-acetylaspartate (NAA), glutamate (Glu), choline (Cho), creatine (Cr), and myo-inositol (mI). Patient scans and cognitive tests were performed before and 4 months after beginning galantamine treatment, which consisted of an 8 mg daily dose for the first month and a 16 mg daily dose for the remaining three months. The levels of Glu, Glu/Cr, and Glu/NAA increased after four months of treatment, while there were no changes in MMSE or ADAS-cog scores. Additionally, changes (Δ) in Glu over the four months (ΔGlu) correlated with ΔNAA, and Δ(Glu/Cr) correlated with ΔMMSE scores. Increased Glu and the ratio of Glu to Cr measured by MR spectroscopy after galantamine treatment were associated with increased cognitive performance. The increase in Glu may be related to the action of galantamine as an allosteric potentiating ligand for presynaptic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which increases glutamatergic neurotransmission.  相似文献

Time‐resolved bolus‐chase contrast‐enhanced MR angiography with real‐time station switching is demonstrated. The Cartesian acquisition with projection reconstruction‐like sampling (CAPR) technique and high 2D sensitivity encoding (SENSE) (6× or 8×) and 2D homodyne (1.8×) accelerations were used to acquire 3D volumes with 1.0‐mm isotropic spatial resolution and frame times as low as 2.5 sec in two imaging stations covering the thighs and calves. A custom real‐time system was developed to reconstruct and display CAPR frames for visually guided triggering of table motion upon passage of contrast through the proximal station. The method was evaluated in seven volunteers. High‐spatial‐resolution arteriograms with minimal venous contamination were consistently acquired in both stations. Real‐time stepping table contrast‐enhanced MR angiography is a method for providing time‐resolved images with high spatial resolution over an extended field‐of‐view. PurposeTo examine whether magnetic resonance (MR) imaging can offer a viable alternative to computed tomography (CT) based 3D bone modeling.MethodsCT and MR (SPACE, TrueFISP, VIBE) images were acquired from the left knee joint of a fresh-frozen cadaver. The distal femur, proximal tibia, proximal fibula and patella were manually segmented from the MR and CT examinations. The MR bone models obtained from manual segmentations of all three sequences were compared to CT models using a similarity measure based on absolute mesh differences.ResultsThe average absolute distance between the CT and the various MR-based bone models were all below 1 mm across all bones. The VIBE sequence provided the best agreement with the CT model, followed by the SPACE, then the TrueFISP data. The most notable difference was for the proximal tibia (VIBE 0.45 mm, SPACE 0.82 mm, TrueFISP 0.83 mm).ConclusionsThe study indicates that 3D MR bone models may offer a feasible alternative to traditional CT-based modeling. A single radiological examination using the MR imaging would allow simultaneous assessment of both bones and soft-tissues, providing anatomically comprehensive joint models for clinical evaluation, without the ionizing radiation of CT imaging.  相似文献

Aim

To determine if focal liver masses could be differentiated as benign or malignant by DWI and ADC maps.

Methods and materials

Sixty focal liver lesions were scanned using 1.5 T MRI. DWI was performed with b 0, b 500 and b 1000 gradients with ADC measurements. Comparison of mean ADC values between each benign and malignant lesion was done. Reference standard of diagnosis was obtained by correlating DWI with histopathologic findings and imaging follow-up. The accuracies of DWI and ADC values were assessed with the Student’s t test, and cut-off values were determined with receiver operating characteristic curve analysis.

Results

When ADC value of 1.0 × 10−3 mm2/s was used as a threshold value for differentiation of malignant tumors from benign lesions, sensitivity was 90.3%, specificity 78.57% and accuracy 86.7%. The best result was obtained with the use of ADC cut off value (at b 500) of 1.5 × 10−3 mm2/s and ADC cut off value (at b 1000) of 1.0 × 10−3 mm2/s, with 90.3% sensitivity, 92.86% specificity, 91.1% accuracy, 96.6% positive predictive value and 81.3% negative predictive value.

Conclusion

DWI and ADC map is a useful tool in differential diagnosis of malignant from benign liver lesions.  相似文献

Background

Rectal cancer constitutes about one-third of all gastrointestinal tract tumors. Because of its high recurrence rates reaching 30%, it is vitally important to accurately stage these tumors preoperatively, so that appropriate surgical resection can be undertaken. MRI is used to assist in staging, identifying patients who may benefit from preoperative chemotherapy–radiation therapy, and in surgical planning.

Aim

To determine the accuracy of MRI in the preoperative staging and planning of surgical management of rectal carcinoma.

Subjects and methods

Twenty-five patients (14 males, 11 females) with rectal carcinoma were included in this study. MRI scans were performed prior to surgery in all patients, on a 1.5T scanner, and images were evaluated by three experienced radiologists. Inter-observer agreement between the three radiologists and the correlation between the imaging findings, histopathology and operative findings were evaluated.

Results

MRI findings were correctly predictive of T category in 21 cases (accuracy, 84%). In 19 (86.4%) of the 22 resectable cases, sphincter-sparing surgical approaches were accurately chosen on the basis of MRI findings.

Conclusion

MRI of rectal cancer is accurate for prediction of tumor stage and the feasibility of sphincter-sparing surgery, which are the main factors affecting the outcome of surgery.  相似文献

目的比较数字减影血管造影(digital substraction angiography, DSA)大视野(field-of-view, FOV)锥形束计算机断层扫描(cone-beam computed tomography, CBCT)与常规FOV CBCT在经动脉化疗栓塞术(transarterial chemoembolization, TACE)中的应用价值。方法 选择2021年10月至12月接受TACE治疗的肝癌患者37例,随机分为大视野组(n=20)和对照组(n=17)。大视野组在术中行大FOV CBCT扫描;对照组行常规CBCT扫描。对两组患者的影像学资料、透视和曝光时间及辐射剂量进行分析,比较两组图像质量和辐射剂量。结果 大视野组3D图像质量达优率为90%,高于对照组的58.82%(P=0.028)。大视野组与对照组平均曝光次数、平均累计透视时间、平均累计曝光时间和空气比释动能差异均无统计学意义。大视野组单位时间剂量面积乘积(dose area product,DAP)低于对照组[(26.852±6.430)μGymm2/s vs (53.12...  相似文献
