Partial left ventriculectomy (PLV) was originally introduced as a new surgical approach by patients with an end stage of cardiac disease. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a standard procedures used in cardiac surgery. Multichannel ECG (MECG) measurements and body surface mapping (BSM) were used to analyse the normalised beat amplitude power maps (BAM) that reflect an overall cardiac activity. The resulting BAMs show that the amplitude of cardiac signals decrease for approximately 30% after the PLV and stay in the same level during the postoperative monitoring interval while after CABG no significant changes in BAM have been observed. In addition the electrodes from the body surface area above the left ventricle, where surgery was performed, show significant changes in beat amplitudes. 相似文献

This study compared the effects of pre-exercise cooling with control water immersions on exercise-induced thermal loads derived
from steady-state submaximal exercise. Eight healthy male participants [mean (SEM) age 29 (1) years, maximal oxygen uptake
3.81 (0.74) l·min–1, and body surface area 1.85 (0.11) m2] took part in experiments that included 30 min of baseline data collection [ambient temperature 21.3 (0.2°C)], 30 min of
immersion in water to the level of the supra-iliac crest [water temperatures of 35.1 (0.3)°C for thermoneutral and 17.7 (0.5)°C
for precooled treatments], and 60 min of cycling exercise at 60% of maximal oxygen uptake. No significant differences were
noted during exercise in net mechanical efficiency, metabolic rate, O2 pulse, or ratings of perceived exertion between the two treatments. Precooling resulted in a significant negative body heat
storage during immersion and allowed greater heat storage during exercise. However, net body heat storage for the entire protocol
was no different between treatments. Cooling significantly lowered rectal, mean skin, and mean body temperatures as well as
more than doubling the exercise time until a 0.5°C rectal temperature increase was observed. The cooling trial significantly
delayed onset of sweating by 19.62 min and decreased sweat rate by 255 ml·h–1 compared to control. Thermal and sweat sensation scores were lower after the cooling treatment compared to control. These
data suggest that lower-body precooling is effective at decreasing body heat storage prior to exercise and decreases reliance
on heat dissipation mechanisms during exercise. Therefore, this unique, well-tolerated cooling treatment should have a broader
application than other precooling treatments.

The hormonal levels of the gonadotropins, the weight of selected organs and of the triceps surae as well as body composition were determined in Sprague Dawley rats at 3 and 6 weeks after intensive training with or without a methandrostenelone (Dianabol) supplement (0.35 mg/kg/day). The controls were sedentary rats of similar age and weight at the start of the experiment. The dianabol treated rats in the sedentary and exercise groups had a depression of plasma LH levels. There were no differences in body weight, specific gravity, lean body weight, fat or % fat between the two trained groups. Three groups of girl athletes — 10 gymnasts and 8 middle-distance swimmers averaging 14 years of age, and 8 middle-distance runners averaging almost 19 — were the subjects of this study. The maximal oxygen intake was determined by graded work load on a bicycle ergometer, certain pulmonary functions by spirometry, and total body potassium by wholebody counting of naturally radioactive40K. The total body water was obtained from measurements of deuterium oxide and application of the dilution principle, and creatinine excretion was determined from urine collections. Fat-free mass was calculated from total body water, and the amount of body fat was obtained by subtracting fat-free mass from body weight. Cell mass was calculated from total body potassium. Supporting evidence of leanness or fatness was provided by anthropometric measurements.The runners and swimmers achieved significantly higher maximal oxygen consumption per kg of body weight, fat-free mass, and cell mass; and the runners excelled the gymnasts in certain other pulmonary functions. Total body potassium in milliequivalents per kg of body weight, total body water expressed in percentage of body weight, and creatinine coefficients were similar in all three groups of subjects. These results indicated no differences in body composition. Calculations of body fat, fat-free mass, and cellular mass verified that conclusion; and supporting evidence was obtained from subcutaneous fat folds and from appraisal of leanness by corrected limb diameters or volumes, which also were similar in all three groups. 相似文献

Perception of our own bodies is based on integration of visual and tactile inputs, notably by neurons in the brain's parietal lobes. Here we report a behavioural consequence of this integration process. Simply viewing the arm can speed up reactions to an invisible tactile stimulus on the arm. We observed this visual enhancement effect only when a tactile task required spatial computation within a topographic map of the body surface and the judgements made were close to the limits of performance. This effect of viewing the body surface was absent or reversed in tasks that either did not require a spatial computation or in which judgements were well above performance limits. We consider possible mechanisms by which vision may influence tactile processing. 相似文献

This study is aimed at detecting gastrointestinal sounds (GIS) and correlating their characteristics with gastrointestinal
(GI) conditions. The central hypotheses are that GIS generation depends on the motility patterns and the mechanical properties
of the gut, and that changes in those result in measurable differences in GIS. An animal model which included both healthy
rats and those with small bowel obstruction (SBO) was developed. The acoustic bursts, of GIS were detected by amplitude thresholding
the signal envelope. Three methods of envelope estimation were proposed and evaluated. Envelope estimation using a Hilbert
transform was found to produce the best results in the current application. The duration and dominant frequency of each detected
GIS event was estimated and clear differences between healthy and diseased rats were discovered. In the control state, GIS
events were found to consistently be of relatively short duration (3–65ms). Although the majority of events in the SBO state
had similar short duration, infrequent longer events were also detected and appeared to be pathognomonic. Long duration events
(>100 ms) occurred in each of seven obstructed, but in none of 14 non-obstructed, cases (p<0.001). It is concluded that GIS
analysis may prove useful in the non-invasive, rapid, and accurate diagnosis of SBO. 相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to assess the relationship between lateralization of body image and right versus left vasomotor activity. Fifteen right-handed female patients suffering from idiopathic Raynaud's disease demonstrated a relationship between the extent of right lateralization of body image and bilateral digital skin temperature during a controlled temperature stress test. In addition, subjects showing a reliable right side awareness demonstrated more unilateral vasospastic attacks in their right hand than their left hand white subjects showing no clear right lateralization by body image reported more left hand attacks than right hand attacks. Summary Investigation of the behaviour of the renal Juxtaglomerular apparatus in 19 patients with malignant hypertension has shown that in kidneys fixed immediately after operation the Juxtaglomerular granulation index is twice as high as in autopsy kidneys. The formation of renin by the epitheloid cells begins with the appearance of osmiophilic substances in the region of the endoplasmic reticulum. The first stages of granule formation are small rhomboid particles in the Golgi cisternes, which aggregate to form bigger round or polymorphic granules in the Golgi area.In pathological conditions the substances synthesized may be set free and become active locally as a result of fibrinoid necrosis of the vascular wall. The rate of production is increased firstly by forcing rhe production of active agents in the preexistent epitheloid cells, secondly by transformation of the so-called bivalent cells and finally, by cell division.In accelerated hypertension the production of renin also takes place in nephrons whose glomeruli, tubules and macula densa, are damaged. There is a correlation between blood pressure elevation and the Juxtaglomerular granulation index.
Zusammenfassung Untersuchungen über das Verhalten des juxtaglomerulären Zellkomplexes der Niere bei 19 Patienten mit maligner Hypertonie haben folgendes ergeben: In operativ gewonnenen und sofort fixierten Nieren ist der juxtaglomeruläre Granulationsindex doppelt so hoch wie in Nieren aus dem Sektionsgut. Die Reninbildung der epitheloiden Zellen beginnt mit dem Auftreten osmiophiler Substanzen im Bereich des endoplasmatischen Reticulums. Kleine rhomboide Gebilde in Golgizisternen sind Vorstufen von reifen Sekretgranula, die sich im Golgifeld zu größeren runden oder vielgestaltigen Sekrettropfen zusammenlagern.Unter pathologischen Bedingungen können infolge fibrinoider Gefäß- wandnekrosen Sekretsubstanzen lokal frei und lokal wirksam werden. Vermehrte Arbeitsleistung erfolgt zunächst durch Forcierung der Sekretproduktion in den präexistenten epitheloiden Zellen, sodann durch Transformierung sogenannter bivalenter Zellen und schließlich durch Zellneubildungen.Reninproduktion findet bei akzelerierter Hypertonie auch in solchen Nephronen statt, deren Glomerula und Tubuli samt Macula densa strukturell geschädigt sind.
