We describe a patient with clear lesions in the spinal cord on MRI due to subacute combined degeneration. T2-weighted images clearly showed abnormal high signals in the posterior columns, which disappeared on recovery from the disease.  相似文献

Co-existence of facial and occipital pain may occur in occipital neuralgia, migraine and cluster headache; suggesting convergence of trigeminal and cervical afferents. Such convergence has been shown in humans and other animals, but the site and extent of this are uncertain. In anaesthetized adult cats, the superior sagittal sinus and occipital nerve were stimulated electrically, and extracellular recordings made in the dorsolateral area of the upper cervical cord using glass-coated tungsten electrodes. Of 49 units in 10 cats, 33 (67%) had input from the superior sagittal sinus and the occipital nerve. Thirteen (27%) had superior sagittal sinus input and 3 (6%) had occipital nerve input. Convergent receptive fields were identified mechanically in 7 units. These experiments in cats show convergent input from occipital nerve and superior sagittal sinus on dorsolateral area units in two-thirds of cases studied. This experimental site of trigeminocervical convergence may relate to referral of pain in occipital neuralgia and other headaches.  相似文献

An atypical variant of reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) is presented in a 45 year old female with a vascular malformation of the right arm and chest wall. The mechanism was thought to be compression of the brachial plexus by the malformation. The afferent nervous supply to the thymus gland has been investigated by means of the retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase. It has been shown that the thymus receives an afferent supply from the nodose ganglia of the vagus and from the dorsal root ganglia C1–C7. The afferent innervation of the right and left thymic lobes is bilaterally organized; the fibers of a small celled population of nodose ganglion neurons cross outside the thymus and those of a larger celled population cross within the thymus gland. The functional implications of these findings are discussed in the context of central nervous system-immune system interactions.  相似文献

①目的 探讨穹隆 海马伞切断对大鼠脑内不同部位神经生长因子受体TrkA表达的影响及临床意义。②方法 成年健康雌性Wistar大鼠 10只 ,随机分为穹隆 海马伞切断模型组和假手术组。两组大鼠均常规取海马CA1区、皮质区、杏仁复合体区、基底前脑Meynert核等部位脑组织与假手术组比较TrkA阳性细胞表达情况。③结果 假手术组大脑各观察区有基础水平的TrkA表达。模型组大脑海马CA1区、大脑皮质区、杏仁复合体区以及Meynert核区TrkA阳性细胞数明显减少 (t=3.94 4~ 8.4 4 2 ,P <0 .0 5 )。 ④结论 穹隆 海马伞切断可致大鼠脑内多部位TrkA表达减少 ,其可能是导致认知和情绪损伤的原因之一。  相似文献

Introduction - Axon growth and axon regeneration are complex processes requiring an adequate supply of certain metabolic precursors and nutrients. Material and methods - This article reviews the studies examining some of the processes of protein modification fundamental to both nerve regeneration and to the continuous and adequate supply of specific factors such as arginine, S-adenosylmethionine and polyamines. Results - The process of arginylation notably increases following nerve injury and during subsequent regeneration of the nerve, with the most likelyfunction of arginine-modification of nerve proteins being the degradation of proteins damaged through injury. It appears that defective methyl group metabolism may be one of the leading causes of demyelination, as suggested by the observation of reduced cerebrospinal fluid concentrations of s-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the key metabolites in methylation processes, in patients with a reduction in myelination of corticospinal tracts. Polyamine synthesis, which depends strongly on the availability of both SAMe and arginine, markedly increases in neurons soon after an injury. This "polyamine-response" has been found to be essential for the survival ofthe parent neurons after injury to their axons. Polyamines probably exert their effects through involvement in DNA, RNA and protein synthesis, or through post-translational modifications that areindicated as the most relevant events of the "axon reaction." Conclusions - Nerve regeneration requires the presence of arginine, s-adenosylmethionine, and polyamines. Further studies are needed to explore the mechanisms involved in these processes.  相似文献

An electron microscopic study was done on abductor pollicis brevis muscles of 18 Rhesus monkeys after intramuscular injections of 0.75% bupivacaine, 2% mepivacaine, or 2% lidocaine + epinephrine. The muscles were examined for from 2 h to 28 days. Severe muscle fiber damage, consisting of breakdown of sarcolemma and myofibrils, was seen as early as 2 h. Phagocyte mediated fragmentation of the degenerating muscle fibers was at its peak during the third and fourth days. Myoblasts were abundant during the fourth day. Early myotubes appeared on the fifth and sixth days, and they matured during the second week. Satellite cells appeared alongside mature myotubes. Overall, the local anesthetic-induced breakdown and regeneration of skeletal muscle fibers in the monkey followed a course quite similar to that seen in the rat.  相似文献

In this study, large areas of goldfish telencephalon were ablated including rostral nucleus preopticus periventriculare (rNPP), and degenerating axons were traced by a modified Fink and Heimer procedure. The lesioning procedure ablated large regions of area dorsalis telencephali pars medialis, centralis, and dorsolateral complex; and completely removed area ventralis telencephali pars dorsalis, ventralis, and lateralis. In addition, the supracommissural nucleus and rNPP were lesioned specifically because both nuclei have been thought to be involved in courtship behavior and endocrine control of reproduction. This investigation demonstrated extensive fiber projections from telencephalic nuclei and/or rNPP to the hypothalamus. Lesioned telencephalon and/or rNPP projected bilaterally to nucleus preopticus and the suprachiasmatic nucleus and unilaterally to the following tuberal nuclei: nucleus anterior tuberis, and the lateral hypothalamic nucleus. A much larger fiber projection to the inferior lobe nuclei was also observed with a large contralateral as well as ipsilateral input.  相似文献

Induction of neurite outgrowth from superior cervical ganglia (SCG) by rat lymphoid tissues was studied using a tissue culture model. Neonatal rat SCG were cultured with 6–12-week-old rat thymus, spleen, or mesenteric lymph node (MLN) explants in a Martrigel layer, in defined culture medium without exogenous nerve growth factor (NGF). SCG were also co-cultured with neonatal rat heart (as positive control) or spinal cord (SC; as negative control). To determine whether inflammation affects the ability of lymphoid tissues to induce neurite outgrowth, we also examined MLN at various times after infecting rats with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis (Nb-MLN). In one series of experiments, a single lymphoid tissue explant was surrounded by four SCG at a distance of 1 mm. The extent of neurite outgrowth was determinded by counting the number of neurites 0.5 mm away from each ganglion at several time points. Adult thymus and, to a lesser extent, spleen had strong stimulatory effects on neurite outgrowth from SCG after 12 hr or more in culture. For thymus tissue, this was similar to the positive control heart explants. MLN from normal rats had minimal effect on neurite outgrowth; however, Nb-MLN showed a time-dependent enhancement of the neurite outgrowth, maximal at 3 weeks after infection. The relative efficacy of neurite outgrowth induction (heart ≥ thymus ≥ Nb-MLN ≥ spleen ≥ MLN ≥ SC) was confirmed in a second series of experiments where one SCG was surrounded by three different tissue explants. We then examined the role of 2.5S NGF, a well-known trophic factor for sympathetic nerves, in the lymphoid tissue-induced neurite outgrowth. Anti-NGF treatment of co-cultures of SCG and heart almost completely blocked the neurite outgrowth. Anti-NGF also significantly inhibited thymus- and spleen-induced neurite outgrowth, but not as effectively as heart-induced neuritogenesis (93,80, and 77% inhibition at 24 hr; 86,70, and 68% inhibition at 48 hr for heart, thymus, and spleen, respectively). On the other hand, anti-NGF inhibited only 8% of neurite outgrowth induced by 3-week post-infection Nb-MLN at 24 hr, and 41% at 48 hr. These data show that several adult rat lymphoid tissues exert neurotrophic/tropic effects. The predominant growth factor in thymus and spleen is NGF, while Nb-MLN produces factor(s) which is (are) immunologically distinguishable from NGF. These neurotrophic/tropic factors are produced during the reactive lymphoid hyperplasia that forms part of the inflammatory response against the nematode, N. brasiliensis. This suggests the possibility that cytokines produced by lymphocytes or other inflammatory cells may stimulate sympathetic neurite outgrowth in vivo. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

The primary general visceral nucleus in goldfish (Carassius auratus) and catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) is located at the ventroposterior boundary of the vagal gustatory lobe and receives coelomic visceral, but not gustatory inputs. The neuronal tracer horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was employed to visualize sources of input to and ascending projections from the primary general visceral nucleus in these species. In addition, immunocytochemical techniques were utilized to define the cytological divisions within the pontine gustatory-visceral complex. The pontine secondary visceral nuclei in both catfish and goldfish contains numerous somata and fibers immunoreactive for calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). In contrast, the secondary gustatory nuclei are devoid of fibers and cells immunoreactive for CGRP. In both the goldfish and the channel catfish, the primary general visceral nucleus receives input from the vagal gustatory lobe, as well as the medullary reticular formation. In the channel catfish, the primary general visceral nucleus projects bilaterally to the secondary visceral nucleus, which lies rostrolateral to the secondary gustatory nucleus in the dorsal pons. Fibers cross the midline via the rostral part of the isthmic commissure. Injection of HRP into the primary general visceral nucleus of a goldfish labels ascending fibers that project to a secondary visceral nucleus situated ventral, lateral, and rostral to the secondary gustatory complex. In general, the results indicate that general visceral systems ascend in parallel to gustatory systems within the brainstem, and that general visceral but not gustatory nuclei are immunoreactive for the peptide CGRP.  相似文献
