This is a systematic review of eyebrow reconstruction options, using the PubMed database, as well as dermatology and plastic surgery texts. Eyebrow reconstruction options in various clinical scenarios (small, large, medial, lateral, and total defects) are presented. The goals of eyebrow reconstruction are to provide structural, functional, and aesthetic restoration. A good understanding of various eyebrow reconstruction techniques is essential for plastic, dermatologic, and oculoplastic surgeons.  相似文献

Satoyoshi syndrome is a multisystem disorder of suspected autoimmune etiology, characterized predominantly by alopecia, muscle spasms and diarrhea. Antinuclear antibodies are present in 60% of patients. The syndrome primarily affects girls and young women. Trichoscopy shows regularly distributed yellow dots, indistinguishable from typical alopecia areata. The condition may be easily misdiagnosed and treated as alopecia areata. On the basis of an in‐depth analysis of all published cases we developed diagnostic criteria for Satoyoshi syndrome. We also suggest that two subtypes of the disorder should be distinguished, the ANA‐positive Satoyoshi syndrome with generally good response to systemic glucocorticosteroid therapy and the ANA‐negative Satoyoshi with less favorable prognosis. In our opinion all patients will alopecia areata (in particular alopecia totalis) should be inquired about muscle spasms and diarrhea and tested for antinuclear antibodies to decrease the risk of missing Satoyoshi syndrome.  相似文献

Conclusions. Electron tomography was used to generate three-dimensional reconstructions of the pillars that connect the cell membrane with the cytoskeleton of the outer hair cell. Results are consistent with the hypothesis that pillars are important for mechanically linking the membrane with the cytoskeleton. Objective: To make a qualitative assessment of the morphology of the sub-membrane pillars of cochlear outer hair cells. Materials and methods. Guinea pig cochleae were fixed and prepared for electron microscopy using protocols described previously. Sections were imaged on an electron microscope equipped with a goniometer. The specimens were tilted through a range of 120°, and an image was acquired at each tilt angle. Filtered back-projection was used to generate three-dimensional reconstructions. Results. Twelve individual pillars were successfully reconstructed. Pillars often connect to the cell membrane through a thin segment, and to the cytoskeleton through a forking structure that may form a central cavity.  相似文献

IOX4, a hypoxia-inducible factor stabilizer, is classified as a banned substance for horses in both horse racing and equestrian sports. We recently reported the pharmacokinetic profiles of IOX4 in horse plasma and urine and also identified potential monitoring targets for the doping control purpose. In this study, a long-term longitudinal analysis of IOX4 in horse hair after a nasoesophageal administration of IOX4 (500 mg/day for 3 days) to three thoroughbred mares is presented for the first time for controlling the abuse/misuse of IOX4. Six bunches of mane hair were collected at 0 (pre), 1, 2, 3, and 6 month(s) postadministration. Our results showed that the presence of IOX4 was identified in all postadministration horse hair samples, but no metabolite could be detected. The detection window for IOX4 could achieve up to 6-month postadministration (last sampling point) by monitoring IOX4 in hair. In order to evaluate the longitudinal distribution of IOX4 over 6 months, a validated quantification method of IOX4 in hair was developed for the analysis of the postadministration samples. Segmental analysis of 2-cm cut hair across the entire length of postadministration hair showed that IOX4 could be quantified up to the level of 1.84 pg/mg. In addition, it was found that the movement of the incorporated IOX4 band in the hair shaft over 6 months varied among the three horses due to individual variation and a significant diffusion of IOX4 band up to 10 cm width was also observed in the 6-month postadministration hair samples.  相似文献

Scalp psoriatic itch is a common complaint and often poses a therapeutic challenge. The pathophysiology of this phenomenon is unclear. The unique anatomy of the scalp contains richly innervated hair follicles, abundant vasculature and perifollicular inflammatory cytokines which may all contribute to this common sensory complaint. The mast cell, in particular, is portrayed as one of the main itch conductors for its ability to trigger neurogenic inflammation, activate the peripheral hypothalamic‐pituitary‐adrenal‐axis, process and integrate itch signalling through its interactions with the scalp hair follicles. Herein, we explain and speculate upon potential mechanisms underlying itchy scalp psoriasis, involving interconnections between the neuroimmune, neurovascular and neuroendocrine systems. Many factors may play roles in itchy scalp psoriasis including the scalp hair structure, immune system, endocrine system, nervous system and vascular system. These may warrant further exploration as therapeutic targets that go beyond the application of mere anti‐inflammatory agents.  相似文献

The term “acute diffuse and total alopecia” (ADTA) has been often used as a synonym for self-regressing severe alopecia areata (AA). However, ADTA is originally defined as a rapidly-progressive subtype of AA (RP-AA) with short recovery time and favorable prognosis irrespective of interventions. Indeed, a subpopulation of ADTA recovers spontaneously. We focused on this unique subset of AA, which we coined as “self-healing ADTA” (sADTA). Prompt and accurate differentiation of sADTA from other RP-AA is important to avoid unnecessary treatments, which is still challenging due to the lack of predictive diagnostic hallmarks. In this study, 18 sADTA patients were retrospectively analyzed to delineate their demographics and clinical features, including gentle hair pull test and trichoscopic findings, followed by statistical comparison with those of RP-AA. All sADTA cases were female and the average age was 38.1 ± 15.9 years. The progression of hair loss areas peaked at 3.6 ± 1.5 months, and complete hair regrowth was achieved in 7.9 ± 1.7 months. The identified factors supporting the diagnosis of sADTA included being female; the absence of scalp pain and itch; the absence of extra-scalp hair loss; club hair predominance in hair pull test; predominant short vellus hairs; and increase in vacant follicular ostia on trichoscopy. Subsequently, a scoring system for early diagnosis of sADTA was developed by counting the number of six identified factors present in a tested case. When analyzed by the developed system, all sADTA cases, including an additional four cases, had scores of 4 or above, while all RP-AA cases had scores below 3 except one case. Therefore, the system successfully differentiated sADTA from RP-AA (P < 0.01). Despite some technical limitations, the current study suggested that sADTA is a distinctive entity with unique pathophysiology and that early diagnosis before intervention is feasible based on the characteristics.  相似文献
