Objective

The main goal of the current study was to assess, with a time-on-task approach, sustained attention ability in schizophrenia, and to investigate conflict monitoring underlying this ability.

Methods

Behavioral and event-related potentials data (N2 and P3a amplitudes) were recorded in a long-lasting sustained attention Go/NoGo task (sustained attention to response task, SART), over a period of 30 min, in 29 patients with schizophrenia and 29 pair-matched healthy subjects.

Results

Our results revealed spared sustained attention ability in patients throughout the task. Impairment of conflict detection (N2) in patients was particularly significant at the end of the task. Furthermore, both schizophrenia and healthy subjects exhibited a decline in conflict detection from the beginning to the middle of the task. Whereas controls’ conflict detection recovered in the last part of the task, patients’ did not, suggesting a deficit in recovery processes reflecting a lack of additional resources sustained attention Go/NoGo task. Conflict resolution (P3a) was preserved throughout the task in both groups.

Conclusions

Conflict monitoring processes are increasingly impaired in schizophrenia during a long-lasting sustained attention Go/NoGo task.

Significance

This impairment at the end of the task may rely on deficit in recovery processes, rather than a deficit in conflict detection per se in schizophrenia.  相似文献

This study used a sequential two-phase explanatory design. The first phase of this mixed-methods design aimed to explore conflict resolution strategies in adolescent dating couples, and the second phase to document, from both the perspective of the individual and of the couple, dyadic interaction patterns distinguishing youth inflicting dating violence from those who do not. A sample of 39 heterosexual couples (mean age 17.8 years) participated in semi-structured interviews and were observed during a 45 min dyadic interaction. At phase 1, qualitative analysis revealed three main types of conflict resolution strategies: 1) negotiating expectations and individual needs; 2) avoiding conflicts or their resolution; 3) imposing personal needs and rules through the use of violence. At phase 2, we focused on couples with conflictive patterns. Results indicate that couples who inflict violence differ from nonviolent couples by their tendency to experience conflicts when in disagreement and to resort to negative affects as a resolution strategy. In addition, while at an individual level, they show a tendency to withdraw from conflict and to use less positive affect, at a dyadic level they present less symmetry. Results offer important insights for prevention programs.  相似文献

We conducted a noninvasive near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) study using the game of rock, paper, scissors (RPS) as a simple neurocognitive task for the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in 15 healthy volunteers. We employed an opposite “to lose” RPS task coupled with a normal “to win” RPS task, since the former requires inhibition of behavior, one of the most important functions of the prefrontal cortex. During the NIRS examination, subjects had to present one of the three RPS hands in response to hands displayed randomly on a computer screen every 1.5 s, and were required to show hands that lose to the computer, or that beat the computer. We measured the relative concentrations of oxyhemoglobin (oxy-Hb) using the prefrontal probes of the NIRS system during the tasks. The increases in oxy-Hb during the “to win” RPS task were small, but were quite large and laterally dominant during the “to lose” RPS task. The difference between the two tasks might have been due to the participants’ cognitive conflict with losing on the RPS. We conclude that losing is better than winning on the RPS as a sensitive indicator in the NIRS examination of PFC.  相似文献

Expert opinion and controversies in musculoskeletal and sports medicine: conflict of interest.Medical providers are faced with conflicts of interest (COIs) on a routine basis, but there is growing concern over the effects of COIs on medical care, medical education, research, product development, and other aspects of the health care system. The data clearly indicate that medical providers are subconsciously influenced by interactions with representatives of pharmaceutical and device manufacturers and that they are not very good at assessing the extent of this influence upon themselves. The data are also clear that potential bias arising from COIs is present in medical education and research. A number of professional medical associations have developed guidelines regarding interactions between medical providers and industry, and requirements for disclosure have become commonplace. The impact of these regulations and of disclosure on managing COI is unclear, however, and it is extremely important that providers manage the conflicts present on their own. A broad awareness of the effects of COIs and disclosure is necessary if providers are going to be able to offer the best care for their patients.  相似文献

IntroductionDating violence is a common problem among adolescents, particularly among Latinx pregnant and parenting adolescents, and can be detrimental to adolescent parents and their children. However, little is known about whether different forms of dating violence behaviors are stable over time or what influences changes in these behaviors. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to use an exploratory autoregressive cross-lag path model to analyze whether conflict resolution, verbally abusive, and physically abusive behaviors were stable over time and whether these behaviors predicted one another in the future.MethodA total of 285 pregnant or parenting adolescents attending eight high schools in the Southwestern U.S. completed a pre-test at the beginning of a semester, a follow-up survey at the end of the semester, and a post-test at the end of the following semester to longitudinally assess the strategies they used when resolving a conflict with their partners (i.e., conflict resolution strategies, verbally abusive behaviors, and/or physically abusive behaviors).Results and conclusionsAn autoregressive cross-lag model was performed to determine whether conflict resolution, verbally abusive, and physically abusive behaviors at one time point predicted the same variables in the future. Results from the autoregressive cross-lag model indicated that adolescents’ reports of their conflict resolution strategies and verbally abusive behaviors were stable across time, but their use of physically abusive behaviors were not. Additionally, conflict resolution strategies predicted lower levels of verbally abusive and physically abusive behaviors.  相似文献

BackgroundAdaptive behavior depends on the delicate and dynamic balance between acquisition and extinction memories. Disruption of this balance, particularly when the extinction of memory loses control over behavior, is the root of treatment failure of maladaptive behaviors such as substance abuse or anxiety disorders. Understanding this balance requires a better understanding of the underlying neurobiology and its contribution to behavioral regulation.MethodsWe microinjected Daun02 in Fos-lacZ transgenic rats following a single extinction training episode to delete extinction-recruited neuronal ensembles in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) and central nucleus of the amygdala (CN) and examined their contribution to behavior in an appetitive Pavlovian task. In addition, we used immunohistochemistry and neuronal staining methods to identify the molecular markers of activated neurons in the BLA and CN during extinction learning or retrieval.ResultsCN neurons were preferentially engaged following extinction, and deletion of these extinction-activated ensembles in the CN but not the BLA impaired the retrieval of extinction despite additional extinction training and promoted greater levels of behavioral restoration in spontaneous recovery and reinstatement. Disrupting extinction processing in the CN in turn increased activity in the BLA. Our results also show a specific role for CN PKCδ+ neurons in behavioral inhibition but not during initial extinction learning.ConclusionsWe showed that the initial extinction-recruited CN ensemble is critical to the acquisition-extinction balance and that greater behavioral restoration does not mean weaker extinction contribution. These findings provide a novel avenue for thinking about the neural mechanisms of extinction and for developing treatments for cue-triggered appetitive behaviors.  相似文献

RATIONALE: Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and urocortin (Ucn) belong to the CRF-related family, share a high degree of structural homology and bind to CRF receptors. However, compared with CRF, Ucn was shown to display either weaker or similar anxiogenic-like effects in vivo. OBJECTIVE: To compare the anxiogenic-like responses of rats injected intracerebroventricularly (ICV) with different doses of either rat/human CRF (r/hCRF) or rat Ucn (rUcn) at different intervals after injection. METHODS: Rats were tested on three validated paradigms of emotional behavior [i.e. elevated plus-maze (EPM), defensive withdrawal (DW) and conflict test (CT)] 5 and 30 min after treatment. RESULTS: In the EPM test only r/hCRF, but not rUcn, produced anxiogenic-like effects at the dose of 1.0 microg, when the peptides were injected 5 min before testing. At 30 min after injection, both peptides caused a significant reduction of open arms exploration, rUcn being effective at 0.01 microg. In the DW test both peptides were equally potent in decreasing the exploratory behavior and increasing the time spent in the chamber at the dose of 1.0 microg when tested 30 min after injection. In the CT both rUcn (0.25-1.0 microg) and r/hCRF (0.75-1.0 microg) decreased significantly the responding in the punished component. However, rUcn reduced food responding also in the unpunished component possibly due to its powerful anorectic activity. CONCLUSIONS: Comparison of anxiogenic-like activities of r/hCRF and rUcn at doses up to 1.0 microg revealed striking differential effects that depended on the time of testing after ICV peptide injection, and on the paradigm of anxiety used. These results suggest that the onset of r/hCRF and rUcn actions related to behavioral responses to anxiety is likely to depend on brain peptide-specific mechanisms including binding properties to CRF-receptors, differential distribution to specific functional brain sites and the distribution and effectiveness of binding-protein interactions.  相似文献

The typical Geller-Seifter conflict paradigm for predicting clinical efficacy of anxiolytics is a mult VI/CRF schedule in which response rates in the CRF (conflict) portion are depressed by response-contingent electric shock. In 1-h sessions, anxiolytics raise the depressed conflict rates. Recently it was shown that replacing the single shock level with an arrangement whereby shock begins at zero and is increased with each response in the conflict portion produced more orderly data and facilitated training and maintenance of experimental subjects; chlordiazepoxide was the test drug. In the present study, those results are replicated in 30-min sessions, and the incremental paradigm is demonstrated to be as specific for anxiolytics as the standard Geller-Seifter paradigm. The possibility of very short sessions is suggested.  相似文献

The in vitro and in vivo ability of benzodiazepines to inhibit specific 3H-diazepam binding correlated with their ability to increase punished responding in a conflict situation. Conflict and foot shock, the punishing stimulus used in most conflict procedures, also altered 3H-diazepam binding. These data implicate 3H-diazepam binding sites in mediating at least some of the anxiolytic properties of benzodiazepines and suggest the existence of some endogenous substance which might be involved in the etiology of anxiety.  相似文献
