BACKGROUND: One of the major mechanical functions of collagenous tissues is the storage, transmission and dissipation of elastic energy during mechanical deformation. In skin, mechanical energy is stored during loading and then is transmitted and dissipated, which protects skin from mechanical failure. Thus energy storage (elastic properties) and dissipation (viscous properties) are important characteristics of extracellular matrices. METHODS: A uniaxial incremental stress relaxation test method has been used to characterize the time-dependent (viscous) and time-independent (elastic) properties of human dermis. Viscoelasticity was investigated in processed human dermis that was equilibrated at pHs of 3.0, 7.4 and 11.0 in an effort to study the link between electrostatic interactions within the collagen matrix and macroscopic tissue properties. RESULTS: Our results show that the solution pH and the charge on collagen significantly affected the high-strain elastic behavior of dermis; the elastic behavior of skin has previously been shown to be directly correlated with axial stretching of the collagen triple helix in crosslinked collagen fibrils. A positive linear correlation existed between the high-strain elastic modulus and both pH (R(2)=0.96) and the total number of charged residues on collagen (R(2)=0.93). These results provide in vitro/ex vivo evidence that charged groups on the surface of collagen molecules in processed human skin influence the high-strain elastic properties of dermis and are likely to be involved in elastic energy storage. CONCLUSION: It is proposed that the pH and charged residue dependency of the elastic modulus suggests that charged pair interactions and repulsions within and between collagen molecules are involved in elastic energy storage during stretching at high strains. It is hypothesized that elastic energy storage is associated with the stretching of pairs of charged amino acid residues that are found primarily in the flexible regions of collagen molecules.  相似文献

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The polysaccharide-rich composition of Aloe vera extracts (Aloe barbadensis Miller), often used in cosmetic formulations, may impart moisturizing properties to the product. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of cosmetic formulations containing different concentrations of freeze-dried Aloe vera extract on skin hydration, after a single and a 1- and 2-week period of application, by using skin bioengineering techniques. METHODS: Stable formulations containing 5% (w/w) of a trilaureth-4 phosphate-based blend were supplemented with 0.10%, 0.25% or 0.50% (w/w) of freeze-dried Aloe vera extract and applied to the volar forearm of 20 female subjects. Skin conditions in terms of the water content of the stratum corneum and of transepidermal water loss (TEWL) (Corneometer CM 825 and Tewameter TM 210) were analysed before and after a single and 1- and 2-week period of daily application. RESULTS: After a single application, only formulations supplemented with 0.25% and 0.50% (w/w) of Aloe vera extract increased the water content of the stratum corneum, while after the 2-week period application, all formulations containing the extract (0.10%, 0.25% and 0.50%) had the same effect, in both cases as compared with the vehicle. TEWL was not modified after a single and after 1- and 2-week period of application, when compared with the vehicle. CONCLUSION: Our results show that freeze-dried Aloe vera extract is a natural effective ingredient for improving skin hydration, possibly through a humectant mechanism. Consequently, it may be used in moisturizing cosmetic formulations and also as a complement in the treatment of dry skin.  相似文献

目的:探讨定向扩张器在治疗面颈部瘢痕中的临床应用。方法:回顾性分析我科2000年至2004年用定向扩张器治疗48例面颈部瘢痕患者。手术分两期:先于瘢痕附近正常皮下置入定向扩张器,皮肤充分扩张后行扩张器取出、瘢痕切除、局部皮瓣转移。结果:48例患者共治疗56处瘢痕,置入扩张器60个,一次修复最大面积为12cm×16cm,除5例遗留部分瘢痕经第二次皮肤扩张修复外,所有患者均得到有效治疗;扩张期并发症18处(30%),以扩张器外露最多见。结论:定向皮肤扩张器在面颈部瘢痕治疗中有很大的应用价值。但应重视预防并发症。  相似文献

Background/aim: Mid-infrared spectroscopy is a versatile method for in vivo investigation of skin after topical treatment with skin care products.
Methods: FTIR-spectrometer (Bruker Optics) with a flexible silver halide fibre probe (Infrared Fiber Sensors).
Results: Absorbance spectra from 700 to 3000 cm−1 have been recorded to gain information about proteins (amide-I and amide-II vibrations at 1650 and 1550 cm−1), esters (1740 cm−1), carboxylic acid (1710 cm−1), polyalcohols (1050 cm−1) and hydrocarbons (CH n vibrations at 2800–3000 cm−1).
Conclusions: Using the particular light guide, we were able to measure for the first time the effects of lip care products on lips directly. Furthermore, water binding and glycerol content of the skin could be determined simultaneously, as well as the replenishment of lipids by lipid-enriched bath oil.  相似文献

Summary Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common malignancy occurring in white populations. It is currently becoming an important challenge in terms of public health management as the increasing incidence rates will probably have a tremendous impact on healthcare costs. Possible factors driving this rise in NMSC numbers are increases in both acute and prolonged UV exposure together with increasing numbers of older people in the population. A better understanding of NMSC epidemiology in Europe is essential if an evidence-based European-wide public health policy is to be developed. It is obvious this can only be achieved by recording and analysing comparative epidemiological data. Finally, by improving the skin examination training for physicians, developing guidelines and exchanging best practices, a high level of healthcare could be provided for NMSC.  相似文献

Using pupillometry and sympathetic skin responses we compared the changes in local and systemic autonomic function within one week of a migraine attack. We investigated whether the measurement of the pupillary light reflex provides further information on the pathophysiology of migraine. Forty-two migraine patients and forty-two healthy age-matched controls were included. The parameters that were measured were the amplitude of the pupillary light reflex, the pupil size at the beginning of the measurement, the latency, the velocity of constriction and the velocity at the end of the dilatation. The average pupil size was 6.43 mm in the migraine group and 6.7 mm in the control group (p < 0.01). Reduced velocity of constriction and smaller amplitude of constriction in migraine patients within two days of an attack were signs of a parasympathetic dysfunction (p < 0.05). The sympathetic skin response did not differ significantly between migraine sufferers and controls. These findings indicate that both parasympathetic and sympathetic nerves supplying the eye are involved in migraine headache presumably due to effects on the pericarotid sympathetic fibers and involvement of trigeminal-parasympathetic reflexes. 目的 判定增龄对皮肤血流量的影响。方法 用PIM2-LDPI检测皮肤血流量。结果 老年组前额、左手指背、命门穴部位皮肤血流量分别为:(1.94±0.86)V,(1.92±0.52)V和(0.71±0.19)V,与青年组比较差异无显著性。但是,老年男性在命门穴的皮肤血流量明显高于青年男性(P<0.05),老年女性前额的皮肤血流量明显降低(P<0.01)。男性比女性的皮肤血流量高。结论 皮肤血流量的差异无年龄相关性,男性组的皮肤血流量比女性组高。  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Patients with renal failure have an increased susceptibility to infections. We therefore studied the recruitment of monocytes and their expression of adhesion molecules CD11b and CD62L at the site of interstitial inflammation in patients with renal failure. Furthermore, we studied if the capacity of monocytes to up-regulate CD11b in interstitial inflammation was determined by the interstitial concentration of chemotactic factors. METHODS: Three intensities of interstitial inflammation (0, intermediate and intense) were established in skin blister chambers. Leukocyte count, CD11b/CD62L expression, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) and blister activity in terms of CD11b mobilization were determined. RESULTS: The CD62L expression on monocytes was lower in the peripheral circulation in patients with renal failure compared with healthy subjects (P<0.005 and P<0.001). At the site of interstitial inflammation patients had a higher expression of CD62L (intermediate, P<0.05; intense, P<0.005). Furthermore, monocytes from patients had an impaired capacity to mobilize CD11b both in the peripheral circulation (P<0.005) and at the intermediate and intense sites of interstitial inflammation (P<0.005 and P<0.001, respectively) compared with cells collected from healthy subjects. We incubated monocytes in blister exudates, in order to explore whether this phenomenon is caused by cellular factors and/or to the interstitial concentration of chemotactic mediators. The expression of CD11b on monocytes from healthy blood donors incubated in blister exudates from either patients or healthy subjects in vitro was similar. The interstitial concentration of MCP-1 at the site of intermediate inflammation was significantly lower in patients with renal failure compared with the corresponding blister exudate collected from healthy subjects (P<0.05), but no differences were observed at the site of intense inflammation. Furthermore, neutralizing the action of MCP-1 in blister exudates with monoclonal antibodies did not have any impact on monocyte CD11b expression following incubation in blister exudates. CONCLUSION: These studies indicate that the impaired capacity of monocytes to mobilize CD11b at the site of inflammation in patients with renal failure is more dependent on constitutive cellular factors than the concentration of CD11b mobilizing factors in the interstitium.  相似文献

目的:研究生物组织热水烫伤过程的传热规律及影响因素并由此进行烫伤程度预测。方法:基于Pennes生物传热方程,建立热水洒落皮肤组织所致烫伤过程的一般模型,研究生物组织内部的温度变化规律,并对生物组织烫伤程度进行预测。结果:通过数值计算,得到生物组织内部的温度分布,以及生物组织烫伤发生的开始时间。研究表明,皮肤及内部组织初始温度分布、热水与皮肤表面的对流换热系数及热水的温度对于烫伤的发生有显著影响。结果:该模型可用于生物组织热水烫伤过程传热分析和烫伤预测,为烫伤的诊断和治疗提供依据。  相似文献
