Sulfate erosion is one of the most complex and harmful chemical corrosion actions. Following sulfate erosion, concrete expands, cracks, dissolves, peels off, and decreases in strength, which affects the durability of structures. Polypropylene fiber (PP) is widely used in various concrete structures because of its good mechanical properties and chemical corrosion resistance. However, PP fiber has a number of shortcomings, such as a smooth surface, poor hydrophilicity, lack of active groups in the molecular chain, and agglomeration and poor dispersion in cement-based materials. These issues limit its application in cement-based materials. Although the use of a silane coupling agent to modify the surface of PP fiber is effective, the influence of treated PP fiber on the sulfate resistance of cement-based materials is not significant. In this study, a PP fiber treated with a silane coupling agent was used to examine effects of different cement-to-sand ratios (C/S) and dosages of the treated PP fiber on the sulfate erosion resistance of cement mortar. Furthermore, the apparent morphology, mass loss rate, flexural strength, corrosion resistance coefficient, and microstructure of the concrete were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results revealed that the PP fiber became rough after modification. Active groups were introduced on the fiber surface, which were well dispersed in the mortar and formed a good network distribution structure in the cement mortar, thereby slowing the erosion rate of the PP fiber mortar in a sodium sulfate solution. At a C/S ratio of 1:1 and a treated fiber dosage of 0.6%, the treated fiber mortar has exhibited good sulfate resistance. In addition, the monofilament fiber immersion test revealed that a layer of sodium sulfate crystals was deposited on the fiber surface, thereby increasing the roughness of the fiber surface and the pull-out force of the fiber from the cement matrix, this result indicated that the interfacial adhesion between the treated PP fiber and cement matrix was improved, which in turn led to the improvement in the sulfate erosion resistance of the treated PP fiber. 相似文献

The concept of the alkaline activity of powdered materials introduced into cement compositions has been proposed, along with methods for its determination. The possibility of using waste glass as an active additive to Portland cement was evaluated from the standpoint of alkaline activity. Replacing the Portland cement component with glass waste in the form of glass powder at amounts from 1 to 35% made it possible to maintain the cement composition’s alkaline activity at a level that met the standard requirements. The previously unknown effects of mixed alkali in Portland cement in the presence of glass waste are described. Portland cement has a high potassium alkaline activity; however, container glass has a high sodium alkaline activity and a fairly low potassium alkaline activity. When glass waste is introduced into the structure of cement compositions, potassium alkaline activity is reduced. 相似文献

In this study, a series of polyether-type defoamers for concrete which consist of the same alkyl chain (hydrophobic part) but different polyether chains (hydrophilic part) was prepared, and the structure–property relationship of the defoamers was investigated for the first time. Using oleyl alcohol (OA) as the starting agent (alkyl chain), the polyether defoamers with different polyether chains were prepared by changing the amount and sequence of ethylene oxide (EO) and propylene oxide (PO) units. The properties of different defoamers were tested in aqueous solutions, and fresh and hardened mortars; the structure–property relationship of the defoamers was thus studied. The results indicated that the defoaming capacity of the polyether defoamers decreased with an increased EO amount, and the defoamers linked with both EO and PO units (PO before EO) had a stronger defoaming capacity than those linked with EO only. This study is beneficial for the development and applications of novel synthetic polyether-type defoamers for concrete. 相似文献

Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) is a sort of green, low carbon, environmental protection building material, its application is of great significance to the low carbonization of the construction industry. The performance and strength of RAC are much lower than natural aggregate concrete (NAC), which are the key factors restricting its application. Class F fly ash is a cementitious material that is considered environmentally hazardous. In this paper, appropriate water-binder (w/b) ratios were found through a mortar expansion test at first. The compressive strength of recycled mortar incorporated with class F fly ash was further studied. On this basis, the mechanical properties of nine groups of fully recycled aggregate concrete (FRAC) with a w/b ratio of 0.3, 0.35, and 0.4, and fly ash replacement ratios of 0, 20%, and 40%, were studied. The influence of the w/b ratio and fly ash replacement ratio on mechanical properties was analyzed and compared with previous research results. In addition, the conversion formulas between the splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and compressive strength of FRAC were fitted and established. The research results have a certain guiding significance for the mixture design of FRAC and further application of class F fly ash. 相似文献

The aim of the study is the deep understanding of the essential reactivity of the environmentally friendly mortar by which its applicability can be justified. Created in the study was the environmentally friendly mortar, which helped relieve the increasing requirements on conventional building materials that are produced from exhausted freshwater and river sand nowadays. Seawater (SW) and sea sand (SS) collected from the Eastern Seas of China were used to produce the mortar at various ages, including 10-day, 33-day, and 91-day. Both the curing and working conditions of the mortar were natural marine ones. The physicochemical-mechanical behaviors were investigated using uniaxial compression tests (UCTs), Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and thermal-field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis to understand the essential reactivity of the mortar with age accumulation. The results indicated that hydration products and favorable components were generated promisingly in the mortar: the C-S-H (xCaO·SiO2·zH2O) development was certainly achieved in the critical environment during the curing and working period; the extensive generation of C-A-S-H (CaO·Al2O3·2SiO2·4H2O) helped densify the C-S-H grid, which caused the promising development of the uniaxial compression strength (UCS); the framework porosity of the mortar was restrained effectively due to the development of Friedel’s salt that re-bonded the interfacial cracks between SS and the hydration products with the age accumulation in the critical environment. Consequently, UCS and the resistance against damage of the mortar showed increasing behavior even in the critical environment. The study established Friedel’s salt working models and strength and damage models to interpret the physicochemical reactivity of the mortar as: the source of the strength and toughness was the proper polymerization between the native saline components and the hydration product mixture generated throughout the production, curing, and application without the leaching phenomenon. The novel models and interpretation of the physicochemical reactivity ensured the applicability of the mortar produced with SW and SS in the critical environment. 相似文献

Presence of microcracks in concrete can diminish the service life of a structure. The injection of materials for filling the crack is proposed for facing this problem. The traditional materials used for sealing cracks present some drawbacks, such as the difficulties of inorganic materials for flowing to all the depth of the crack and the lack of compatibility with the cementitious matrix in the case of organic materials. In this work, the injection of colloidal nanosilica dispersed in water is proposed for filling microcracks in mortars. The effect of the injection procedure on the sealing performance of the colloidal nanosilica has been assessed. The ability of colloidal nanosilica for penetrating through the crack and its posterior gelification-solidification inside the crack after a curing period have been confirmed. The microscopic analysis of a cross-section of the crack indicates that the sealing ability of the nanosilica seems to be not only due to the filling of the crack but also to chemical interactions with the cementitious phases of the surrounding crack sides. 相似文献

Granite is a well-known building and decorative material, and, therefore, the amount of produced waste in the form of granite powder is a problem. Granite powder affects the health of people living near landfills. Dust particles floating in the air, which are blown by gusts of wind, can lead to lung silicosis and eye infections, and can also affect the immune system. To find an application for this kind of waste material, it was decided to study the effect of partially replacing cement with waste granite powder on the properties of fresh and hardened mortars intended for masonry applications. The authors planned to replace 5%, 10%, and 15% of cement with waste material. Series of mortar with the addition of granite powder achieved 50% to 70% of the compressive strength of the reference series, and 60% to 76% of the bending strength of the reference series. The partial replacement of cement with the granite powder significantly increased the water sorption coefficient. The consistency of the fresh mortar, and its density and water absorption also increased when compared to the reference series. Therefore, Granite powder can be used as a partial replacement of cement in masonry mortars. 相似文献

Comparing with the traditional construction process, 3D printing technology used in construction offers many advantages due to the elimination of formwork. Currently, 3D printing technology used in the construction field is widely studied, however, limited studies are available on the dynamic properties of 3D printed materials. In this study, the effects of sand to binder ratios and printing directions on the fractal characteristics, dynamic compressive strength, and energy dissipation density of 3D printed cement mortar (3DPCM) are explored. The experiment results indicate that the printing direction has a more significant influence on the fractal dimension compared with the sand to binder ratio (S/B). The increasing S/B first causes an increase and then results in a decline in the dynamic compressive strength and energy dissipation of different printing directions. The anisotropic coefficient of 3DPCM first is decreased by 20.67%, then is increased by 10.56% as the S/B increases from 0.8 to 1.4, showing that the anisotropy is first mitigated, then increased. For the same case of S/B, the dynamic compressive strength and energy dissipation are strongly dependent on the printing direction, which are the largest printing in the Y-direction and the smallest printing in the X-direction. Moreover, the fractal dimension has certain relationships with the dynamic compressive strength and energy dissipation density. When the fractal dimension changes from 2.0 to 2.4, it shows a quadratic relationship with the dynamic compressive strength and a logarithmic relationship with the energy dissipation density in different printing directions. Finally, the printing mortar with an S/B = 1.1 is proved to have the best dynamic properties, and is selected for the 3D printing of the designed field barrack model. 相似文献

The smart release of healing agents is a key factor determining the inhibition efficiency of microcapsules-based corrosion inhibitors for reinforced concrete. In this study, the release behavior of benzotriazole (BTA) in microcapsule-based inhibitors was investigated in mortar sample to clarify the influence of different hydration products on the release process. The results indicated that under high pH environment (pH > 12.4), only about 5% reserved BTA was released from the mortar sample. pH drop resulted in the increased release of BTA from mortar sample. Most BTA in the microcapsule-based inhibitors was released from mortar sample in low pH environment, which was closely related to morphology/composition alterations of hydration products caused by pH drop of the environment. The smart release of BTA dramatically delayed corrosion initiation of reinforced mortar and halted corrosion product accumulation on the steel surface. Therefore, the corrosion resistance of the reinforced mortar was improved after corrosion initiation. 相似文献

In order to solve the problem of lack of natural river sand, crushed waste oyster shells (WOS) were used to replace river sand. By replacing 20% river sand, WOS mortar with different particle sizes of WOS were made for the experiment. Through experimental observation, the initial slump and slump flow loss rate were studied. The effects of different particle sizes and curing times on the compressive strength, flexural strength, static elastic modulus, and dry shrinkage of WOS mortar were analyzed. The relationship formulas between the compressive strength, flexural strength, particle size, and curing age were proposed. The results showed that the setting time and slump flow decreased with a decrease in the particle size of WOS. It was also found that the mortar with fine crushed WOS had high compressive strength, flexural strength, and static elastic modulus at both early and long-term curing age. A formula was proposed to describe the development of the compressive strength with the particle size of WOS and curing time, and the relations among these mechanical properties were discussed. Furthermore, drying shrinkage increased when WOS was used and could not satisfy the standard requirement of 0.075%. In contrast, the addition of fine WOS and double-dose sulfonated naphthalene-formaldehyde superplasticizer (SNF SP) reduced the shrinkage rate of the mortar by 8.35% and provided better workability and mechanical properties for mortar. 相似文献
