BackgroundWhile hyperglycemia has a key role in the pathogenesis of microvascular complications of diabetes, it is just one of the many factors contributing to macrovascular damage. The aim of the present study is to investigate the link between serum pentosidine and sRAGE levels and vascular complications in patients with prediabetes compared to normal glucose tolerance controls with obesity.MethodsIn this study were included 76 patients with mean age 50.7 ± 10.7 years, divided into two age and BMI-matched groups – group 1 with obesity without glycemic disturbances (n = 38) and group 2 with obesity and prediabetes (n = 38).ResultsThere was no significant difference in pentosidine and sRAGE levels between patients with obesity and prediabetes. Patients with hypertension had lower levels of sRAGE compared to nonhypertensive subjects. sRAGE showed a weak negative correlation to blood glucose on 60th min of OGTT and HOMA index. There was no correlation between sRAGE and pentosidine levels and the markers of micro- and macrovascular complications. There was no difference in sRAGE and pentosidine levels between patients with and without endothelial dysfunction.Conclusions: sRAGE and pentosidine levels are similar in patients with obesity with and without prediabetes and do not correlate to the markers of micro- and macrovascular complications. 相似文献
In 1998 Howard Parker, Judith Aldridge & Fiona Measham published Illegal Leisure, a ground‐breaking study of profound changes in British youth cultures in the 1990s, and the place of drugs and drug use in these upheavals. This work introduced the ‘normalization thesis’ to the social sciences, offering a novel vocabulary for re‐imagining the normative character of young people's attitudes towards and experiences of illicit drug use. Arriving at the dawn of the new century, the book offered a thoroughgoing re‐thinking of the character of youth cultures at a time of great social, cultural, economic and technological disruption. Purpose: To use polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Goldmann-Witmer coefficient (GWC) calculation to diagnose infectious uveitis.
Methods: Prospective cross-sectional study.
Results: Twenty-seven of 106 patients had positive PCR and/or GWC results on aqueous humor (AH) sampling and 15 of 27 (55.6%) were HIV-positive. Patients with non-anterior uveitis (NAU) were more likely to be HIV+ (p = 0.005). More than 1 possible pathogen was identified in 9 of 27 patients of whom 7 were HIV+. The final clinical diagnosis was discordant with AH findings in 9 of 27 cases. A positive EBV PCR result was associated with a discordant diagnosis (p = 0.001). All cases of herpetic anterior uveitis (42.9% HIV+) tested PCR-/GWC+ while all cases of herpetic NAU tested PCR+/GWC- (83.3% HIV+). All rubella virus cases were PCR+/GWC+.
Conclusion: PCR is useful to diagnose herpetic NAU in HIV+ patients while GWC is useful to diagnose herpetic anterior uveitis. 相似文献
