Reinforced concrete (RC) beams are basic elements used in the construction of various structures and infrastructural systems. When exposed to harsh environmental conditions, the integrity of RC beams could be compromised as a result of various deterioration mechanisms. One of the most common deterioration mechanisms is the formation of different types of corrosion in the steel reinforcements of the beams, which could impact the overall reliability of the beam. Existing classical reliability analysis methods have shown unstable results when used for the assessment of highly nonlinear problems, such as corroded RC beams. To that end, the main purpose of this paper is to explore the use of a structural reliability method for the multi-state assessment of corroded RC beams. To do so, an improved reliability method, namely the three-term conjugate map (TCM) based on the first order reliability method (FORM), is used. The application of the TCM method to identify the multi-state failure of RC beams is validated against various well-known structural reliability-based FORM formulations. The limit state function (LSF) for corroded RC beams is formulated in accordance with two corrosion types, namely uniform and pitting corrosion, and with consideration of brittle fracture due to the pit-to-crack transition probability. The time-dependent reliability analyses conducted in this study are also used to assess the influence of various parameters on the resulting failure probability of the corroded beams. The results show that the nominal bar diameter, corrosion initiation rate, and the external loads have an important influence on the safety of these structures. In addition, the proposed method is shown to outperform other reliability-based FORM formulations in predicting the level of reliability in RC beams.  相似文献

Epoxy polymer concrete (EPC) is widely applied in engineering for its excellent mechanical properties. The impact loads and severe climatic conditions such as ultraviolet radiation, temperature change and rain erosion are in general for its engineering practice, potentially degrading the performance of EPC. In this paper, a procedure of accelerated aging for EPC, imitating the aging effect of ultraviolet radiation and hygrothermal conditions based on the meteorological statistics of Guangzhou city, was designed. After various periods of accelerated aging, the dynamic behaviors of EPC were studied by using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB). The verification of the experimental data was performed. The two-stage dynamic compression stress-strain curves were obtained: (a) linear growth stage following by strain hardening stage at impact velocity 12.2 m/s and 18.8 m/s, (b) linear growth stage and then a horizontal stage when impact velocity is 25.0 m/s, (c) linear growth stage following by strain softening stage at impact velocity 29.2 m/s. The experimental results show that the specimens after longer accelerated aging tend to be more easily broken, especially at impact velocity 12.2 m/s and 18.8 m/s, while the strain rate is the main factor affecting the compression strength and stiffness. Ultimately the influence of strain rate and equivalent aging time on dynamic increase factor was revealed by a fitting surface.  相似文献

Various studies have been conducted to better understand the long-term corrosion mechanism for steels in a soil environment. Here, electrochemical acceleration methods present the most efficient way to simulate long-term corrosion. Among the various methods, galvanostatic testing allows for accelerating the surface corrosion reactions through controlling the impressed anodic current density. However, a large deviation from the equilibrium state can induce different corrosion mechanisms to those in actual service. Therefore, applying a suitable anodic current density is important for shortening the test times and maintaining the stable dissolution of steel. In this paper, to calibrate the anodic current density, galvanostatic tests were performed at four different levels of anodic current density and time to accelerate a one-year corrosion reaction of pipeline steel. To validate the appropriate anodic current density, analysis of the potential vs. time curves, thermodynamic analysis, and analysis of the specimen’s cross-sections and products were conducted using a validation algorithm. The results indicated that 0.96 mA/cm2 was the optimal impressed anodic current density in terms of a suitable polarized potential, uniform corrosion, and a valid corrosion product among the evaluated conditions.  相似文献

The environmental condition in which the Royal Malaysian Airforce is currently operating its aircraft is prone to corrosion. This is due to the high relative humidity and temperature. With most of its aircraft being in the legacy aircraft era, the aircraft’s main construction consists of the aluminium 2024 material. However, this material is prone to corrosion, thus reducing fatigue life and leading to fatigue failure. Using the concept of either Safe Life or Damage Tolerance as its fatigue design philosophy, the RMAF adopts the Aircraft Structure Integrity Program (ASIP) to monitor its structural integrity. With the current problem of not having the structural limitation on corrosion-damaged structure, the RMAF has embarked on its fatigue testing method. Finite Element (FE) studies and flight tests were conducted, and the outcome is summarized. The conclusion is that the longeron tested on the aircraft can withstand the operational load, and its yield strength is below the ultimate yield strength of the material. These research outcomes will also enhance the ASIP for other aircraft platforms in the RMAF fleet for its structure life assessment or service life extension program.  相似文献

To explore the basic mechanical properties and size effects of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) with different substitution ratios of coarse recycled concrete aggregates (CRCAs) to replace natural coarse aggregates (NCA), the failure modes and mechanical parameters of RAC under different loading conditions including compression, splitting tensile resistance and direct shear were compared and analyzed. The conclusions drawn are as follows: the failure mechanisms of concrete with different substitution ratios of CRCAs are similar; with the increase in substitution ratio, the peak compressive stress and peak tensile stress of RAC decrease gradually, the splitting limit displacement decreases, and the splitting tensile modulus slightly increases; with the increase in the concrete cube’s side length, the peak compressive stress of RAC declines gradually, but the integrity after compression is gradually improved; and the increase in the substitution ratio of the recycled aggregate reduces the impact of the size effect on the peak compressive stress of RAC. Furthermore, an influence equation of the coupling effect of the substitution ratio and size effect on the peak compressive stress of RAC was quantitatively established. The research results are of great significance for the engineering application of RAC and the strength selection of RAC structure design.  相似文献

Post-tensioned anchorage zones need enough strength to resist large forces from jacking forces from prestress and need spiral reinforcement to give confinement effect. High-strength concrete (HSC) has high-strength and brings the advantage of reducing material using and simplifying reinforcing. We tested strain stabilization, load–displacement, and strain of lateral reinforcements. Specimens that used one and two lateral reinforcements without spiral reinforcement did not satisfy the strain stabilization. Load capacity also did not satisfy the condition of 1.1 times the nominal tensile strength of PS strands presented in ETAG 013. On the other hand, specimens that used three and four lateral reinforcements without spiral reinforcement satisfied the strain stabilization but did not satisfy 1.1 times the nominal tensile strength of PS strands. However, the secondary confinement effect could be confirmed from strain stabilization. In addition, the affection of HSC characteristics could be confirmed from a reinforcing level comparing other studies. The main confinement effect could be confirmed from the reinforcement strain results; there was a considerable difference between with and without spiral reinforcement at least 393 MPa. Comprehensively, main and secondary confinement effects are essential in post-tensioned anchorage zones. In addition, the performance of the anchorage zone could be increased by using HSC that the combination of high-strength and confinement effect.  相似文献

In order to study the degradation laws and mechanisms of admixture concretes with single-added SO42− and composite of Mg2+ and SO42−, respectively, the durability tests were conducted on three types of mineral admixture concretes (concretes with single-added metakaolin (MK), single-added ultra-fine fly ash (UFA), and composite of metakaolin and ultra-fine fly ash (MF), and one reference concrete. In these tests, the 10% Na2SO4 solution and the 10% MgSO4 solution were used as the erosion medium, and the drying-wetting circle method was applied. It can be seen from the compressive tests and grey relational analysis that the MK admixture can improve the anti-Na2SO4-erosion capability of the concrete significantly, but weaken its anti-MgSO4-erosion capability; the UFA admixture can improve both the anti-Na2SO4-erosion and the anti-MgSO4-erosion capability of the concrete; and the composite admixture has superimposed effects and can enhance erosion resistance against these two erosion mediums. The phase composition and the changes of the macro morphology and the micro structure during the erosion process caused by mono sulfate ions and complex ions has been observed through X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR spectrum (FTIR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM), based on which it was determined that the erosion of single-added SO42− ions can produce erosive outputs of ettringite, gypsum, and mirabilite in the concrete, and cause corner scaling or deformation. Mg2+ and SO42− reacted in the concrete and produced brucite, M-S-H, ettringite, and gypsum, etc. The erosion of complex ions can cause scaling of the cement mortar and aggregate from the surface or the desquamation of corners.  相似文献

The development of methods to reuse large volumes of plastic waste is essential to curb the environmental impact of plastic pollution. Plastic-reinforced cementitious materials (PRCs), such as plastic-reinforced mortar (PRM), may be potential avenues to productively use large quantities of low-value plastic waste. However, poor bonding between the plastic and cement matrix reduces the strength of PRCs, limiting its viable applications. In this study, calcium carbonate biomineralization techniques were applied to coat plastic waste and improved the compressive strength of PRM. Two biomineralization treatments were examined: enzymatically induced calcium carbonate precipitation (EICP) and microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP). MICP treatment of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resulted in PRMs with compressive strengths similar to that of plastic-free mortar and higher than the compressive strengths of PRMs with untreated or EICP-treated PET. Based on the results of this study, MICP was used to treat hard-to-recycle types 3–7 plastic waste. No plastics investigated in this study inhibited the MICP process. PRM samples with 5% MICP-treated polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and mixed type 3–7 plastic had compressive strengths similar to plastic-free mortar. These results indicate that MICP treatment can improve PRM strength and that MICP-treated PRM shows promise as a method to reuse plastic waste.  相似文献

In this research, iron ore tailing (IOT) is utilized as the cementitious material to develop an eco-friendly ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). The UHPC mix is obtained according to the modified Andreasen and Andersen (MAA) packing model, and the applied dosage of IOT is 10%, 20%, and 30% (by weight), respectively. The calculated packing density of different mixtures is consistent with each other. Afterwards, the fresh and hardened performance of UHPC mixtures with IOT are evaluated. The results demonstrate that the workability of designed UHPC mixtures is increased with the incorporation of IOT. The heat flow at an early age of designed UHPC with IOT is attenuated, the compressive strength and auto shrinkage at an early age are consequently reduced. The addition of IOT promotes the development of long-term compressive strength and optimization of the pore structure, thus the durability of designed UHPC is still guaranteed. In addition, the ecological estimate results show that the utilization of IOT for the UHPC design can reduce the carbon emission significantly.  相似文献
