The purpose of this article was to report the clinical and radiographic findings about a case of a man affected by severely atrophic maxilla to demonstrate the clinical proceedings associated with alveolar reconstruction destined for dental implant rehabilitation. The 3-dimensional augmentation of the alveolar ridge with the use of fresh-frozen bone graft, platelet-rich fibrin membrane, and titanium mesh suggests potential benefits to the development of the bone formation physiology. The treatment combination may result in an optimal prognosis and represents an option for reconstruction of bone defects. At 8 months after surgery, no evidence of complications was observed; the clinical examination and computerized tomographic scan revealed bone formation and installed implant stability. 相似文献

Introduction
Liver disease induces many organic and metabolic changes, leading to malnutrition and weight and muscular function loss. Surface electromyography is an easily applicable, noninvasive study, through which the magnitudes of the peaks on the charts depict voluntary muscle activity.Aim
To evaluate the diaphragmatic surface electromyography of postoperative liver transplantation subjects.Methods
Subjects were patients who underwent liver transplantation and extubation in the Clinical Hospital of State University of Campinas. Electromyography data were collected with support pressure of ≤10 cm H2O, Glasgow Coma Scale = 11, and minimum dosages of vasoactive drugs, and data were collected again 30 minutes after extubation. Signal collection was performed with sEMG System Brazil SAS1000V3 electromyograph and electrode stickers. Statistical analysis was performed using R software.Results
The average time of surgery was 345.36 ± 125.62 minutes. Time from spontaneous mode until extubation was 417.14 ± 362.97 minutes. The RMS (root mean square) values of the right and left domes in spontaneous mode with minimal ventilation parameters were 26.68 ± 10.92 and 26.55 ± 10.53, respectively, and the RMS values after extubation were 31.93 ± 18.69 to 34.62 ± 13.55, for right and left domes. The last calculated pretransplant Model for End-stage Liver Disease score averaged 19.64 ± 8.41.Conclusion
There were significant differences between the RMS of the diaphragm domes under mechanical ventilation and after extubation, showing lower effectiveness of the diaphragm muscle against resistance, without the aid of positive pressure and the existing overload of the left dome. 相似文献33.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the most common manifestation of inherited retinal diseases with high degree of genetic, allelic, and phenotypic heterogeneity. CEP250 encodes the C‐Nap1 protein and has been associated with various retinal phenotypes. Here, we report the identification of a mutation (c.562C>T, p.R188*) in the CEP250 in a consanguineous family with nonsyndromic RP. To gain insights into the molecular pathomechanism underlying CEP250 defects and the functional relevance of CEP250 variants in humans, we conducted a functional characterization of CEP250 variant using a novel Cep250 knockin mouse line. Remarkably, the disruption of Cep250 resulted in severe impairment of retinal function and significant retinal morphological alterations. The homozygous knockin mice showed significantly reduced retinal thickness and ERG responses. This study not only broadens the spectrum of phenotypes associated with CEP250 mutations, but also, for the first time, elucidates the function of CEP250 in photoreceptors using a newly established animal model. 相似文献

The purpose of this project was to explore and understand community college faculty experiences and perceptions of working with students enrolled in one public university concurrent enrollment nursing program (CEP). Three focus groups were conducted with faculty members of three partner community colleges. Several benefits for students enrolled in the CEP were noted, including students achieving the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree more rapidly with increased postgraduation employment opportunities. Background
Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) has commonly been used to assess the body composition of children and adolescents. BIA validation studies have found distinct correlation values with reference methods.Objectives
To assess the reproducibility, correlation and mean differences in body composition estimated by BIA and reference methods, we systematically reviewed the literature in the pediatric population.Method
The search for articles was conducted in March 2016 and was limited to articles published from 2005 to 2015 in the PubMed, Embase, EBSCO, Web of Science, Scopus and SciELO databases. Two reviewers independently performed data selection and extraction of studies that investigated the BIA validity, responsiveness, reliability and/or measurement error (reproducibility) to estimate body composition in children and adolescents with an average age ≤ 18 years.Results
The search produced 48 articles. Almost perfect reproducibility was found in the body fat percentage estimated by BIA, and there was almost perfect correlation between the BIA ratings and reference methods for fat mass and fat-free mass. Regarding component estimates, BIA underestimated the fat mass in both sexes.Conclusions

As new transcatheter mitral valve (MV) interventions continuously evolve, potential procedure-related adverse events demand careful investigation. The risk of cerebral embolic damage is ubiquitous in any left-sided structural heart intervention (and potentially linked to long-term neurocognitive sequelae); therefore, efforts to evaluate these aspects in the field of catheter-based MV procedures are justified. Given the peculiarities of MV anatomy, MV disease, and MV procedures, the lessons learned from other transcatheter heart interventions (i.e., transcatheter aortic valve replacement) cannot be directly translated to MV applications. Through a systematic assessment of available evidence, the authors present and discuss procedure- and patient-related factors potentially associated with cerebral embolic risk during catheter-based MV interventions. Given the paucity of available data in this field, future large, dedicated studies are needed to understand whether cerebral embolic injury represents a real clinical issue during MV procedures. 相似文献

BackgroundObesity is a major health risk factor associated with medical complications, such as cardiovascular disease, that may compromise outcomes. Furthermore, obesity may lead to difficulties in daily life, altering the quality of life and generating psychological disorders such as devalued self-image and depression.ObjectivesThis study evaluated the quality of life and predictive factors of postoperative complications in patients who underwent abdominoplasty after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.SettingBariatric and postbariatric center, North Wing Regional Hospital, Brasília, Brazil.MethodsData were analyzed from a prospective registry of postbariatric patients who underwent abdominoplasty from January 2011 to December 2016. Variables examined included age, sex, body mass index (BMI), complications, and comorbidities. Multivariate analyses were performed to assess outcome measures. The quality-of-life assessment was measured with the Moorehead-Ardelt quality-of-life questionnaire.ResultsOne hundred and seven postbariatric patients were included. The mean age of the patients was 41 years. BMI at the time of abdominoplasty (current BMI) was 27.6 ± 3.7 kg/m2, and the average weight loss before abdominoplasty was 47.7 ± 17.3 kg. Pre-weight loss BMI (max BMI) was 45.5 ± 7.6 kg/m2, and ?BMI was 18.6 ± 9.3 kg/m2. The overall rate of complications was 23.4%. Among the studied factors in the multivariate analysis, amount of removed tissue in the abdomen >2000 g, ?BMI >20 kg/m2, and age >40 years significantly increased the rates of postoperative complications. In our study, abdominoplasty improved the quality of life of patients (mean quality-of-life scores, 2.1 ± 0.9).ConclusionThe amount of removed tissue in the abdomen, ?BMI >20 kg/m2, and age >40 years led to significantly more complications in patients undergoing abdominoplasty after gastroplasty. In addition, this study demonstrated that abdominoplasty should be proposed to patients with massive weight loss to improve quality of life. 相似文献
